FHAS is the largest independent provider of administrative Fair Hearing and medical appeals services in the nation, providing appeal services to include Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, Medicare Part C PDRC Appeals and Medicare DME Appeals. Technicate was contracted to develop an analytical assessment engine to streamline and expedite the review process for Medicare appeal claims. Through the use of specific technological

algorithms, we will implement a plan to allow case workers, doctors and attorneys the ability to more efficiently review a case and determine the end findings for which the appeal is dependent upon. This interface allows the user the ability to review case files in a fraction of the time expended before.

United Reporting Publishing Corporation (UR) provides statistical reporting on arrests within the community. UR contracted with Technicate to update several of their websites from, non-mobile ready, highly text based sites to more visually appealing ones using responsive Wordpress templates. Each site also had to be integrated into their internal database which stores new reports of arrests which are gathered from around the

state on a daily basis. The website was built using WordPress (CMS) and key features included writing a custom WordPress plugin to connect securely to the database, web forms, RSS feeds, XML feeds, ad monetization, address mapping/plotting, responsive design, and more.

CalCASp is an organization that provides accessibility compliance services to assist businesses, property owners and architects in complying with the building codes associated with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Technicate was contracted to develop an assessment tool that can be used to streamline the process to enable Evaluators the ability to quickly assess an area out in the field and sync data to the SaaS based

system. We met with the Client to analyze their specific needs and coordinate their needs with the technological tools available to them. This created the roadmap used to design the tool best suited to their specific needs. From there we were able to program a SaaS based environment that allows an inspector to capture as-built information, unlimited photographs, geo-located mapping, inspector notes and more on the accompanying mobile application. We were able to set the connection as to allow the information to be synched immediately to the web portal using cellular data or delay the synch to utilize Wi-Fi capability.

The State of California, Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) contracted with Technicate to update their website from an antiquated, non-mobile ready, highly text based site to a more visually appealing one using one of the State of California’s mobile ready (responsive) templates. Technicate held a discovery meeting with EMSA during the project’s kickoff to identify additional site goals and to meet with relevant staff

from each department represented by the site. A usability study was conducted with the general public to identify difficulties in layout, navigation, and functionality of the existing site. EMSA also asked to have CMS systems evaluated under various criteria including user levels, integration, cost, and ease of use for EMSA staff.


Upon completion of the initial data analysis, Technicate made design plans for template customization, navigation scheme, social media, mobile readiness, and accessibility of the site. Upon EMSA approval of the recommendations, Technicate set up a secure architecture based on the OTECH’s state mandates, modified the template to coincide with the approved recommendations, installed the chosen CMS (Orchard), transferred existing content to the new site, and performed acceptance testing. Training was provided to EMSA staff on content editing and user management. Post public launch of the site, Technicate supported the site and provided “as needed” phone in support for a period of 3 months.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO of United Reporting Publishing Corporation, a digital newspaper that publishes crime news throughout California.


What challenge were you trying to address with ?

We engaged Technicate to build custom software that would allow site visitors to sort through news based on specific search criteria (i.e., zip code).


What was the scope of their involvement?

Technicate developed a program for our websites that scrubs address information, allowing visitors to search for news based on specific criteria or by location. They provided wireframes and worked with our team onsite to learn more about our company and unique challenges. They then provided suggestions and built the software from scratch using both open-sourced and proprietary systems for our websites.

We're on a completely different level next to other news providers, and we're generally referred to as the benchmark for quality.

How did Technicate Solutions, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They're very responsive and accessible. We submit tickets through Jira, which helps us easily track and process any issues that come up. We also have direct access to the developers assigned to our projects, and they do a great job of meeting critical deadlines. They're good at mitigating any problems that could potentially interfere with timelines, and fix any bugs with a sense of urgency.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They genuinely care about their clients' success. They took the time to learn about our business and understand our unique needs to come up with custom solutions. I also appreciate their willingness to provide additional feedback to help improve project outcomes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. However, I'd like to see them grow and hire additional staff.
