Our web application's user interface was developed by Tarkashilpa, while other partners focused on the product side. We primarily have 3 applications within our web app that are developed and maintained by Tarkashilpa. As members of an agile team, their responsibilities encompass a trifold mandate:

1. To deftly adapt to new changes that emanate from feedback received from end customers and stakeholders
2. To diligently develop new requirements put forth by our product owners
3. To deliver immaculate code, untainted by bugs, within the allotted time.

• The speed at which we were able to iterate and approach the product concept was the benchmark of our success. The team demonstrated great agility in incorporating changes and rectifying issues, while also being highly adaptable to evolving requirements.

Reporting is one Area where I would suggest that team should focus more on so that Client is aware of day to day Project status .

We have recently setup Test Automation CoE to provide the test automation solutions to all the engineering teams across the organizations. As part of this we wanted to provide a unified automation framework along with a portal that users can access to configure an run the tests. I am the head of this Test Automation CoE.

We wanted to have a unified test automation framework that can help the engineering teams to run the tests. As part of this, we wanted to have a common user portal for this framework that can help the teams to access the framework at ease.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We wanted this portal to be developed using React JS and should be low in maintenance (mostly configurable). As the base framework provides the APIs for consumption, the user portal should have minimal maintenance efforts.

We have used Gatsby JS platform to build this portal. As part of this, we have identified 5 important modules and sections that the portal should provide. Each module completion has been tracked as a milestones. Used React JS for the development.

Total of 3 people worked on this project - 1 as a technical lead and 2 others as developers.

The team involved in this project is highly knowledgeable and has provided extensive support in building the portal. They have helped in improving the framework API coverage. They have also advised on the best practices and approaches in integrating with the reporting platforms.

We have followed agile approach in running this project having daily standup sessions. We also had many sessions to explain and brainstorm the solutions. We have used microsoft teams, confluence and jira as the main communication and project management tools.

The scope of work involved a few workstreams. Firstly the team successfully upgraded the front end technology for Angular 7.x to the latest version. They also efficiently supported the client's team in migrating the back end from Mongo DB to Postgres. Finally they developed additional functionalities within the CRM platform such as new client onboarding process and Purchase Order module.

All major deliverables on the project namely Angular version upgrade, re-architecting the platform to a SaaS model and building the scoped enhancements were done on time and as per the estimated budget.

The Project management style was largely consultative with the technical lead playing an important part in all delivery related decisions. The team used MS Teams and JIRA for collaborating across different locations.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

One of the most important feature if this company is that they take complete accountability for their scope of work and also help out other teams in delivering their scope. They proved their reliability in terms of quick risk identification that helped us manage mitigations effectively.

None that comes to my mind.

I’m the co-founder of a business directory startup. 

Our platform is like a yellow page, and it helps people find various services, such as plumbers, electricians, bakeries, hotels, and more. When users look for services, our app will display providers’ locations and prices. Our app is available on the web, Android, and iOS.

What challenge were you trying to address with Tarkashilpa Technologies?

I was looking for a reliable and affordable app development partner.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Tarkashilpa used Laravel and React Native to develop our app for Android and iOS. We wanted the app’s mobile version to have the best features since people nowadays use their smartphones more. However, our app is also available on the web.  

Our app functions like a yellow page. Currently, we are targetting a state in India. We wrote a script in Python that searches for all the postal codes in the state. 

Our app has a lot of categories, such as bakeries, restaurants, hotels, plumbers, water services, and more. If someone wants to add a new category, they can contact our customer care, and we will add the new service to our database. 

Users can add their business to our platform, and consumers can use our platform to search for the services they require. For example, if someone wants an electrician, plumber, or driver, they can search for them using our app, and the app will display a service provider’s location.  

Service providers can offer deals and discounts, which are mapped on the business. We use Elasticsearch as our search engine. 

We provide a different portal for service providers, and their dashboard displays how often their business got searched. Additionally, we send weekly emails detailing a provider’s performance on our app. 

Tarkashilpa has already finished developing the app, and it was supposed to launch in December 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our sales team can’t do anything, so we haven’t launched the app yet. Meanwhile, Tarkashilpa is providing maintenance for the app.

How did you come to work with Tarkashilpa Technologies?

Tarkashilpa was referred to me by a friend. He was very impressed with how Tarkashilpa developed his software. 

Before looking for partners, we already had a budget in mind. I’d been a software engineer for 18 years, and I know how much money was required to build my app. 

When I reached out to Tarkashilpa, I gave all my requirements to their team. I wanted to know if I could trust them and if they could work within our budget. It would be an end-to-end solution, which people don’t usually give to the same vendor.  

Two vendors gave me a higher-than-expected quote, while Tarkashilpa’s offer was within my expectation. That and my friend’s recommendation made me decide to hire them.

We started working together in June 2020, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app has been successfully delivered due to Tarkashilpa’s hard work. We had to change some requirements along the way, and they’ve been adaptive to that. 

They’ve treated the product as their own, so everything has gone smoothly. I’m very impressed with the way they built the app.

How did Tarkashilpa Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Tarkashilpa is very good at project management, and it’s easy to communicate with their team. Whenever there’s an issue, they are very responsive and will have it sorted out immediately. They delivered everything on time and in good quality. 

We communicate through WhatsApp and email. Wherever I get in touch, they immediately reply. 

Additionally, Sumit is very proactive and interactive. Whenever we require anything, he gives us a call. He’s also very knowledgeable in explaining all code-related matters.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tarkashilpa’s work is impressive. They’re very proactive and knowledgeable, and they’re ready to listen, clarify, and give their opinion on what they think will be the best for us. They’re very good at understanding the situation of the product.

We got connected via a business network channel. We were quite impressed with Tarkashilpa's portfolio and process to deliver results. Good understanding of UI/UX designs and intuitive knowledge of developing Angular frontend.

The scope of the project for Tarkshilpa included understanding the functional and operational requirements for the front end. Analyzing the process and developing UI wireframes. Converting wireframes to actual Angular designs considering best UX practices. Integrating with Back end services, handling data transfer and optimization and testing.

We were coordinating directly with Mr. Sumit for the overall project scope. We had a senior angular developer, UI/UX designer, and a QA testing person working for us from Tarkshilpa.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We had a breakup of milestones in the approx duration of 15 days for working with Tarkashilp in each project. Tarkshilpa was able to achieve 90% of the milestones as per schedule without any delay.

We had direct coordination with Mr. Sumit for all projects. Mr. Sumit has a very good understanding of logic and tech. They make sure that all requirements are clearly analyzed and documented before moving forward to development. Regular scrums and reviews avoided revisions and helped in achieving milestones as per schedule.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Tarkshilpa had helped us to overcome some of the technical challenges in our project by implementing solutions to improve our system. They work with complete dedication and responsibility.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We couldn't find any issues while working with Tarkashilpa. We expect them to maintain and improvise their work process in the future for efficient delivery of service.

I’m the director of technology at Frizbane, a digital transformation consultancy company. We also offer technology transformation services and we help our clients assess their existing operating models, especially software product development companies. We look where efficiency needs to be achieved, whether that’s a business transformation or a technology transformation. 

We use a network of consultants and work on a loose associate model where we find the right associates or contractors, to work on projects who then take ownership over the end-to-end delivery and the customer’s success.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Tarkashilpa Technologies?

Early last year, we decided to create a prototype product of our own and we wanted a partner to work on the mobile app development — we also wanted someone to also have the skills for somebody to create an email mailbox. It’s not the typical app development we needed, as it also required some backend connectors to standard mailboxes using IMPA and POP protocols.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our mobile app, which is only the user interface. We had other partners who were working on the product side and Tarkahilpa did the UI/UX design and developed the mobile app — they also did the backend connectivity for the mailbox functionality.

The first step was to design the UX. Being a B2C mobile app, we wanted a very informative and fluid user experience for the customer, so we went through three iterations. They then provided an end-to-end user experience visualization of the app first. Once the UX was confirmed, we then went on with developing the mobile app features. We provided the APIs that they needed to use and they integrated it and built the mobile app.

After this project, we worked on revamping our website. We had a technical framework in mind and they scaled up to the challenge and helped deliver the web framework. In 2021, we had another client who wanted to build an Angular-based revamp, and one of the modules in that project was done by Tarkashilpa Technologies as well.

What is the team composition?

Sumit (Owner) was the point of contact. We worked with a mobile app frontend developer and a user experience designer.

How did you come to work with Tarkashilpa Technologies?

We were looking for somebody with experience in managing mail protocols in mobile apps. We created a product storyboard and a product outline so we looked at multiple partners. A known contact introduced us to Tarkashilpa Technologies, and they demonstrated that they had the necessary skills to deliver the product — we then started working with them in an agile fashion.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent somewhere between $25,000–$30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January–June 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They proved to be a very sufficient partner in understanding our requirements and delivering our mobile app on time. The prototype was finished successfully within the timeframe we initially discussed. The measure of success was how quickly we iterated and came up close to the concept of the product, and they were very agile in making changes and fixing defects. They were also very adaptable as requirements changed.

How did Tarkashilpa Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We worked in an iterative cycle and ran sprints. Sumit was very helpful, and I never had to interact directly with the team in terms of work delivery. We did have discussions as to what needs to be done, but otherwise, it was very well communicated. Sumit is very good at analyzing and setting expectations and making sure the deliverables are met. They asked the right questions and they were very upfront in projecting the estimated effort — they were satisfactory for us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They focused on making sure they understand the requirements and asked really relevant questions — the scope was well understood and agreed upon.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should improve the way they manage the UX design, and the designer, as they weren’t a functional person. What I found was that their designers typically tend to not be functional-focused. Their ability to understand the end-to-end product and the business functionality behind it lagged a bit — I would have preferred to have a UX designer who also works partly as an analyst, understands what the product needs to do, and provide their own insights into it. 

There was a bit of iteration time lost in clarifying why we do certain things in the UX. They were quite happy to come back and iterate and work around it though.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They prefer to understand the end-to-end picture of what the product definition and positioning is and the customer experience that’s needed. The big picture is needed for them to actively contribute to the success of the product — they’re very inquisitive about it. Treat them as a partner in your success and they will respond and provide the right value.
