Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the CEO and Founder.
For what projects/services did your company hire Zurgerberg Inc, and what were your goals?
I wanted to develop a IOS mobile app the utilizes data from external high frequency GPS to be shared with racers at autocross and track day events. We wanted to have a launch after 6 months of development.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
I selected them after interviewing 3-4 different app development companies. I decided to go with them because:
- They were a competitive bid. Above average in cost estimate, but half the cost of the most expensive bid.
- Their enthusiasm for the idea during the calls.
- They seemed to understand the market and idea more completely than the other devs.
- They were willing to travel to events to understand the business need.
- They had the most complete and well thought out cost estimate that they walked me through.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
We had introductory meetings, then cost estimate, revised and signed the contract, I made wireframes, the wireframes were then done by the designers (we had to go through 3 or 4 designers), while the wireframes were being done, Zurgerberg engineers were testing out if he could get the API for the external GPS working and map it with Apple maps.
Full development happened after we finalized the designs. We did lots of testing and reworking of the code. Once we finally felt like it was useful enough, we submitted to the app store. Development is ongoing.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We started with a PM, but found he wasn't contributing much. Rich did most of the PM work. I helped with ticketing when I saw issues. I worked mostly directly with:
- Rich, the founder
- lead engineer
- PM, app tester
- and architect
- designer
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We just launched the app last week and it's off season for track days and autocross so we don't have measurable outcomes, but everyone I have shown is really impressed by the design, and with how quickly it was developed.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Zurgerberg has always been on time even when we are constantly moving the meetings around. We use email, Jira and Slack to manage the project.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They are passionate about what they do, care about the product, and go above and beyond the specification. Zurgerberg is really the whole package and has been a pleasure to work with. Being a first time founder with a strict budget, I was very apprehensive about costs.
Zurgerberg worked with me to prioritize features, figure out rough costs, and even still helped me when I couldn't afford them for part of the project. When they see an opportunity, while communicating costs before they balloon.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Nothing comes to mind. I think all of our problems were typical development issues that one can't foresee. Zurgerberg was able to work with me on changing priorities when issues arose.

Racing analysis tool for race car drivers
The most beautiful, easiest lap analysis tool available for race car drivers. Supporting both point to point and closed circuit races, users connect their high frequency GPS receiver, and record their laps at high precision for comparison and later analysis.

Amici: a personal, anonymous conversation app
Amici had a simple idea: to build a place where people could talk in a deeper way than social apps typically facilitate.
Â
Amici wanted to focus around the selection of an emotion as a starting point for the conversation. We created a series of videos of ink and water as a metaphor for these feelings, and how they interact with each other in conversation.
Â
The project was completed without any changes to the fixed price budget, despite multiple pivots.

Please describe your company and your position there.
VP of Engineering, we use machine learning applied to fashion products, executed through mobile apps. We were recently acquired by a major tech firm.
For what projects/services did your company hire Zurgerberg Inc?
Zurgerberg built our mobile app, which grew to hundreds of thousands of users in just the first few months after launch. Our goal was to be acquired by a major tech firm, which happened about 12 months after the app’s launch.
What were your goals for this project?
Goals were to launch a flexible and quick mobile app that was easy to iterate on and add new features, as well as being flexible to control from the backend.
How did you select Zurgerberg Inc?
Our leadership team had worked with them in the past at previous positions and they came very recommended.
Describe the project in detail.
Zurgerberg has handled everything with our app (which is our core product) from start to finish. We launched in just a few weeks and then iterated constantly, often releasing multiple times per week. They integrated seamlessly with the rest of the technical team.
What was the team composition?
Internally we had a team of 5 engineers working on the machine learning and backend system. Zurgerberg brought on another 2 iOS engineers initially to build the iOS application - over time that increased to include the founder, three senior engineers and a QA specialist.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We were acquired!! Give so much credit to Zurgerberg for helping us develop a beautiful responsive mobile application that showcased our machine learning technologies with a seamless UI. Some challenges included how to hide machine learning processing time with certain UI feature and precomputing elements in the background so that the results would be ready when a user arrives at a given screen.
Additionally: First version built and launched in five weeks >300,000 users through organic growth in the first four months App was featured by the App Store Release cadence of 1 launch every 1-2 weeks. Most new feature requests were in the app store within 1-2 weeks.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Very effective. Zurgerberg was always responsive and willing to pivot on a moments notice to pump out any necessary features that unexpectedly were added to the scope of the next release. It was an absolute pleasure working with Zurgerberg and I hope to have the opportunity to do so again in the future.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I was most impressed by their willingness to take on new features outside the scope of standard iOS development. Zurgerberg never gave us a "no, that's not possible" answer and were always looking for new, creative ways to accomplish some of the potentially outlandish features we requested.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Honestly, no areas for improvement. Zurgerberg is comprised of a team of industry experts who turn around projects at a lightning speed while not sacrificing quality at all. Would recommend to any team.
