Promega Spectrum Image

Promega Spectrum

Promega came to StudioRed with their new Spectrum CE robotic sampling system. StudioRed supported them by taking their new conceptual look forward ensuring it signaled a fresh design while it still respected Promega's lineage, and while encompassing Promega's new automated and flexible run technology in a housing design that was easy to use, easy to assemble and easy to service.

Facebook Open Cellular

StudioRed helped Facebook's program to connect the 3rd world to the internet through the Open Cellular project. This device is a "cell tower in a box" allowing thousands of phones to conenct to it within a 10 kilometer radius. StudioRed did all of the product and brand design as well as the engineering of all plastics. StudioRed also designed the logo which can now be found across all of their branding. Engineering occured as

well as thermal analysis assuring the device would work through convection cooling without the use of fans. IP67 was required as well.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am CEO of Fidotek Corp, a Big Data / AI company that's pioneering a new digital frontier of predictive pet dog health and wellness.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Studio Red?

Consumer / smartphone APP UX/UI, web portal UX/UI, consumer electronics products industrial design and engineering.

What were your goals for this project?

Fidotek is driven to deliver the unimaginable pet owner experience, and help their dogs live healthier, longer. We knew that dog owners were NOT inclined to answer 100s of questions about their dog through an APP before receiving some level of confidence in the health data Fidotek provided, so we knew we needed an APP engineered to deliver the ultimate pet owner engagement.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here. Studio Red has worked on multiple design and engieering projects for me over the past 25 years - and never failed to deliver the quality industrial design and engineering on-time, and on budget. Why in the world would I risk a critical project to a new, unknown design and engineering company?

Describe the project in detail.

Think back to the last time you filled out that awful patient information intake form when you first visited your doctor. More than 100 questions - "Does our family have a history of heart disease?", "What do you weigh?", “Has your weight changed over the past year?” “Are you in any pain? Where?”, “Are you on any medications?”... and on, and on, and on.

Fidotek needs the same information on each dog, and we know how little the pet owner will want to tap out 100 answers on a smartphone – the antithesis of an enjoyable consumer experience.

In fact, most consumers will stop entering the data before they are finished - and we'd both lose. So, the objective was to engineer an APP that was instantly fun and engaging, capturing only the first essential dog information that would allow Fidotek to start its digital diagnostics and deliver meaningful information back to the pet owner.

And, when we deliver that dog health knowledge back to the pet owner, to create an instant, trusted relationship with the dog owner. Then, over the days and weeks following, we can continue to engage by displaying another 2 or 3 questions that the owner is more than happy to answer, thereby progressively providing 100% of the answers through continuous, fun and meaningful APP engagement.

What was the team composition?

We were assigned a project manager and a team of 3 that included graphical, UX/UI and consumer engagement engineers who immersed in the pet owner experience (pets are literally the "kids" of our customer base). The output would then be transferred to our internal team for coding.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Studio Red’s UX/UI APP engineering resulted in our APP receiving MULTIPLE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS, year over year.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Smooth, seamless - as if Studio Red WAS our internal team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are responsive, capable, and staffed with subject matter experts across a spectrum of disciplines from project management, to engineering, to psychographic/demographic driven UX/UI development process engineers.

The fact is, We don't have the resources of FB or Google to hire this broad talent set, and even if we did, we don't have the time to develop them into a cohesive team. We need product output NOW. Time is our enemy. Studio Red allows us to timely perform on par with the most progressive / aggressive new product development companies anywhere.

Are there any areas for improvement?

As a product engineer who's created and brought into production many, many products for many companies, I hold my vendors to the same standards I hold myself to - on expertise, responsiveness, team play, budgets, milestones, and ultimately, performance output. Studio Red has met or exceeded my own performance standards going on 3 decades.
