I’m the managing partner of a company that provides a directory listing of running events throughout North America. Our website allows users to find the next marathon they might want to run.

What challenge were you trying to address with The Status Bureau?

We wanted to know how we could rank better on Google for keywords pertinent to our business. Thus, we needed an SEO expert.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a number of calls to do a deeper dive into our business and what we were hoping to get out of working with them to improve our SEO. We already knew which keywords we wanted. The Status Bureau gave us strategies for ranking well for those keywords.

The Status Bureau created a detailed plan for us to implement. As we implemented it, we had a couple of calls to get advice and ideas on whether we were doing it correctly. We had one last call to review the results and finalize the project.

We found them through my personal network. They came highly recommended as one of the leading SEO firms in Vancouver. We initially had a discovery call to share a little bit about our business and let The Status Bureau tell us about their process. Once that went well, we decided to hire them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February–August 2025. We're working with them again in the future, but we haven't made plans yet.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We monitor individual markets. For instance, we rank for Vancouver runs and then Montreal runs, and every market fluctuates. From the analytics we looked at, we moved up two significant rankings on average from working with The Status Bureau. We were already ranked quite well, so it brought us up to the first and second positions. 

How did The Status Bureau perform from a project management standpoint?

The Status Bureau delivered on time and on budget. Most of the work was just meetings, and they attended all of them. They provided very good insight. The team came up with a recommendation report earlier than we hoped, which was good. We communicated via email and Google Docs. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The Status Bureau's level of expertise and experience was impressive. For example, they explained some things I had already heard about but wasn't sure about. They provided such good examples from previous companies they worked with and explained why they worked and what didn't. This gave us the confidence to put the effort into developing some of their recommendations. 

Moreover, The Status Bureau was really good at explaining things, which helped because SEO can be a voodoo topic. The team was professional and good people, which went a long way.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their price was on the higher end compared to the rest of the quotes in the industry. However, the value they provided was good, so I didn't have any criticisms. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be prepared to describe exactly how your business works. I was a little bit surprised at how much they wanted to know, as I didn't initially connect it to SEO. However, as we got deeper into things, it made a lot of sense. The Status Bureau was able to incorporate some of our other strategies into their recommendations. Have an open mind, too.

We gained full access to our Facebook Business Manager account. Alexandra also hopped on a video call with me and spent time verifying the account with Facebook.

Their project management was great. They were extremely responsive — their resources always responded to us on time and kept us up to date with the project. We communicated over email or via online video meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Everyone from The Status Bureau — from their co-founder to their employees — was kind and genuine. They wanted to support the local indigenous government and did the project out of the goodness of their hearts. This was rare and stood out to us. They asked nothing in return other than spreading the good word about what they did.

No, there weren’t any. They were fantastic, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

What challenge were you trying to address with The Status Bureau?

We were looking for someone to handle our SEO.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Upon engagement, The Status Bureau did a deep dive into our site and saw areas where we could improve. They gave us a to-do list along with having their own list of things to do. This gave us the opportunity to save a little bit of money because we got charged by the hour. There were some tasks we could do ourselves on our backend, and The Status Bureau handled the other tasks. Their efforts included removing unnecessarily H1 tags and creating landing pages for specific keywords.

We worked with three team members including Josh (Co-Founder & Strategy), Darren (Partner & Tactics), and a technical point person.

I know Josh because we’ve from the same hometown. We play baseball together. I wanted someone I could trust.

Our engagement was from about January 2019–January 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

With analytics, we’ve been able to see how everything has propagated and worked out down the road. Statistically, we have more unique visitors and get more sales. The engagement worked out really well. We didn’t engage with them last year because of COVID-19; we had a limited budget.

However, that’s not to say we haven’t been pleased with their services. In the prior years we’ve used them, we’ve been really happy, and they’ve pointed us in the right direction. We’re still trending upward despite the slump with COVID-19.

How did The Status Bureau perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was excellent, I’d give them a 10 out of 10. We typically communicated through phone and email. Whenever I called, they got back to me right away if they weren’t available. I never had to wonder where they were; they were always there for me. Their team was always friendly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I have a great element of trust with them. I get about 10 emails a day about SEO that go straight to spam. It’s all generic content and each email says the exact same thing. They don’t have the password to my site so how can they tell me it’s doing that poorly? The Status Bureau was a trusted source. I know their brick and mortar.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would’ve been beneficial to have more people doing more of the grunt work. There may be customers who can’t do the editing as I could. I could see someone who isn’t tech-savvy perhaps being turned off by that. However, I jumped on it because I’m a graphic designer and built my Squarespace site myself. Maybe if I had said I couldn’t do it, The Status Bureau would have provided someone to do it. I don’t know, perhaps they already have that covered.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you have your own website and can log in to make changes, you can get the most out of The Status Bureau. They’re also helpful with Google Ads. You can trust them because they know what they’re doing. I saw the results myself with my analytics. Now, if you’re my competition I wouldn’t point you in their direction because they do such a great job.

No, there’s nothing I can think of. They do a great job for the size that they are and the verticals they focus on.

My advice is to make sure you have clear expectations for the results that you want.

We’ve seen a lot more organic traffic. Our company is ranked much higher for the selected keywords, leading to more traffic and business.

How did The Status Bureau perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management style is good. We have a plan set where they give me an update halfway through and at the end. I have to confirm if the plan works on our end, but overall, their team does most of the work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s hard to trust SEO companies because it’s hard to track what they’re doing. Now, I’m at the point where I know enough about the process to see that the team at The Status Bureau is doing it the correct way. That’s why we’ve chosen to stick with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s great to approach your customers with ideas. Given the space, it’s hard to get educated on specific elements because it’s such a moving target. I always appreciate when people bring ideas and show me opportunities. That initiative would be helpful.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Trust that someone is in your corner when working with The Status Bureau. Take their advice. Remember to follow the program because this process takes time.

I’m a former account manager at Yellow Pencil. At the time, I served as the conduit between the Status Bureau and a third-party client.

For what projects/services did your company hire The Status Bureau?

One of our clients sold plots of land valued between $200,000–$1 million, but buyers would typically spend nearly two years in the funnel before converting. Our client didn’t realize that digital marketing could support their sales effort, so we approached The Status Bureau to develop and execute their digital marketing strategy.

What were your goals for this project?

Their task was to generate leads into the GTH marketing funnel.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I’d worked with The Status Bureau a number of times, and they’d always delivered. Unlike other prospective partners we’d considered, they didn’t have a minimum cost commitment that was beyond our client’s budget. They’re comfortable working with budgets ranging from $10,000­–$100,000 CAD.

Describe the project in detail.

The Status Bureau functioned as a digital marketing lead for our client, overseeing keyword strategy and SEO. The team drafted a list of 50 industry-specific keywords such as “industrial land Canada” and “inland port,” targeting a North American audience. They then actively monitored the campaign and optimized it as they went. This involved pulling out the underperformers and amplifying the top performers. Each week, they would walk the client through reports to educate and support them through this new digital marketing process.

This initiative generated 12 new leads for our client over the course of 5 months, which was huge for them. This project also got our client excited about exploring digital efforts.

They were reliable and consistent project managers, delivering on time, staying on budget, and being responsive.

What impresses you about The Status Bureau?

I appreciated their flexibility and support. They were easy to work with and could put together a plan and enter production within days. On top of that, they knew how to communicate complex, technical concepts in a way that made sense to the layman.

We found The Status Bureau via a Google search. We selected them because they were on the first page of results. They also had a great portfolio and list of clients, which indicates that they knew what they're doing.

We launched a new website in 2017. Sales were slow because there wasn't much traffic. The design was great and received fantastic feedback, but there just weren't enough eyeballs on it. The Status Bureau identified the problem and fixed a number of pages. They recommended that we fill content that was missing.

The Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia (JMABC) is dedicated to the preservation and sharing of the history of Jewish community life in British Columbia. For over 45 years, we've collected tens of thousands of documents chronicling our community history and offered innovative public programming to build bridges across communities. As director of community engagement, I'm responsible for all public programming, marketing, and fund development.

After rebranding and introducing a new website, we contracted The Status Bureau to improve our web performance. This was our first time working with an SEO consultant. We understood the importance of SEO within the organization but lacked the expertise to improve it.

The Status Bureau set up our AdWords account and worked with our developer to integrate it with our website. We met to set up our campaigns, select keywords, and write ads. We met a few months later to review the results of the campaigns, make revisions, and improve performance.

Whether on the phone or over email, they are timely, informative, responsive, accessible, and good-humored. Their co-founder is great at following up on previous meetings or conversations. He confirms that they've completed the tasks and informs me about unanticipated setbacks.

They have a highly professional team with great follow-through. They're up-to-date on changes in the field and great at keeping us ahead of the competition. Their co-founder is transparent about how AdWords functions; he's given me a crash course so I can make updates myself.
