I’m the CEO of INCORTO, a streaming platform. We provide streaming services like Netflix but for short and independent films to support independent filmmakers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Source Code?

We needed a company to design and develop our website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Source Code designed and developed our website on WordPress. They implemented some algorithms to recommend other movies to users according to their own preferences. However, content filtering is managed internally. We receive the short films and watch them. If they’re good, we upload them.

We’ve worked together for several years. In the beginning, I wanted our platform to be something unique and different from Netflix. Thus, I specifically asked for a world map where users could select movies from different countries like the US, Spain, or France. After several years, we decided that this feature wasn’t helpful for our users, and we took it out.

We’re now working on the mobile version of our app. They did the first design for Android, and they’re now designing it for iOS while we’re improving the Android version. Additionally, Source Code will continue to provide monthly support and maintenance to the whole platform on an ongoing basis.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contact is their CEO. However, I believe that two other people are working on our project.

How did you come to work with Source Code?

I contacted Source Code’s CEO because I knew him from college.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $500. However, we’ve provided them with cameras and filming materials in exchange as well.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2015, and our engagement is ongoing. The first phase of this project was focused on developing the web application, and we officially launched it one year later, in 2016. We’ve created an annual film festival since then — that’s when everything started.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Source Code’s work has been great, and we’ve collaborated on many different ideas and changes for the platform.

In the beginning, we had a very low budget, and for the first 3–4 years, our service was free. Users subscribed using Facebook or Instagram to watch the movies. However, we’re a paid platform like Netflix since 2020 due to our success.

How did Source Code perform from a project management standpoint?

Source Code’s project management is very good. They sometimes deliver a couple of days later than they say, but they always deliver great quality. If something doesn’t meet our expectations, they continue working on it until they achieve what we want.

We’ve been working together for seven years, but we haven’t seen each other for the last five. We now communicate online via WhatsApp and a weekly call.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Source Code is open to making different deals for their services that not only involve money. For startups like us, someone who is willing to trust us and make arrangements for payments is very valuable.

Additionally, they’re committed to delivering what we want. If they don’t do it the first time, they keep working on it until they hit the mark.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only aspect that needs improvement is that they don’t always deliver within the time they promise. If we have a very specific deadline to meet, we have to remind them about it constantly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend working with them.

I had a website already, but Source Code’s work was basically from the ground up. I had a lot of information that needed to be readjusted because my services changed. They were able to accommodate those changes with the new site, which I believe was built on WordPress.

I worked directly with the CEO. 

How did you come to work with Source Code?

I’ve known Jorge (CEO) for some time, and we’d been talking about projects every now and then, so we decided to work together. He had a really good understanding of my ideas, and I knew he would be able to get my message across both visually and in terms of content. 

How much have you invested with them?

I spent about $5,000, more or less. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August – September 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’m still working on some marketing strategies, so I don’t have any direct examples yet, but I’m satisfied with their work. I’m excited to work with them again. Source Code understood my branding really well and captured what I wanted visually.

How did Source Code perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t have deadlines in this particular case, but Jorge was great at sticking with his own commitments. The turnaround time was very quick and the distance was never a problem.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Source Code brings a quite modern and fresh look to their work. That’s a really important quality for new companies who want to get their services out there — they make their clients look very professional and competitive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

To be honest, there’s nothing.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

To get the best out of Source Code’s work, be prepared prior to content sharing. It’ll make the process go even faster if they have all the information you want on your website all written out and explained in one pack.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Source Code has helped amplify our online presence by developing different platforms for us. They've created our e-commerce store and other mobile apps, which we use to promote our products and engage customers.

As for our usual workflow, we start by conducting a discovery process to outline our requirements and design preferences. Once these are relayed to Source Code's team, they proceed with the development and implementation stages. Most of the platforms we need have already been built by their team, and we continue to rely on them for site maintenance and update integration.

What was the team composition?

I mainly work with four resources from Source Code, including a designer, a developer, and a project manager.

I found Source Code on Google while looking for potential agencies to onboard for this project. We contacted them along with other similar service providers, but their team's proposal, price point, and understanding of our terms stood out.

We've spent less than $1,000 so far.

Our ongoing partnership kicked off in January 2021.

Source Code has been an efficient partner to us — their development services have allowed us to secure a 30% increase in sales. Our e-commerce store has been particularly beneficial as we've been able to grow our income and gain more clients despite the pandemic. We've found Source Code right on time, and they've been keen on delivering our business needs.

We communicate via email and phone calls. We have a collaborative and organized working relationship with Source Code, which benefits both of our teams.

Source Code has top-notch customer service — they're a responsive team that pays close attention to our needs and helps us understand each phase of the scope. We've thought of sticking with our own plans, but their suggestions on altering our scope have significantly improved our products.
