They’re building a database and software program to help prevent employer-related labor problems. The solution provides a variety of employment law consultation, management support, and training opportunities. The team is currently in phase one of two.

We work with five or six people.

How did you come to work with Software Technology Group?

We did an online search and found them through the local chamber; we’re both members. We hired the team after an initial meeting and reviewing their past work.

We’ve spent approximately $41,000.

We started working with them in January 2018 and the partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t have metrics because they haven’t concluded phase one yet. We just met yesterday to fix bugs.

How did Software Technology Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t have a project manager or any dedicated tools in place. Instead, we meet to identify tasks and then follow-up. Formalizing that process is their biggest opportunity for improvement.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They feel like part of our team and produce creative options that meet our set guidelines. Despite the project management issues, we plan to go forward with phase two because they’re an enjoyable team to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The project management workflow needs specific dates and tasks, as well as follow-up, to ensure timely completions. Utilizing such a system would benefit the partnership.

What challenge were you trying to address with Software Technology Group?

When we founded our organization, we needed a company to help us with a wide range of development projects. Software Technology has expertise in PHP coding, database management, and design. Although our platform is developed in LAMP, they've been able to accommodate us really well and became our go-to developer.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They help us build our mobile applications and develop specific tools for printing through web. On top of being good developers, they're very good engineers. It's a niche market and my solutions don't follow the normal conventions of software development. I create very sophisticated solutions, breaking all the rules of what you'd expect to see in typical PHP development. They've been able to produce exactly what I design, so the solutions work exactly as I want them to work.

We've had about seven different developers working on our projects.

How did you come to work with them?

I was searching online for a local company. Software Technology was willing to work with us when we were a startup and committed to helping us. Also, they’re nearby and we can have face-to-face meetings, which is important to me.

We started working with them in 2013 and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Software Technology helps us grow and excel. They deliver the solutions we need and we sell those solutions to law enforcement agencies across the United States.  

Our clients love our software. Since the demographics of our market range from people in their late 50s to people in their 20s, we need to service both the non-tech customers and the customers who grew up with a computer in their hands. Software Technology helped us achieve that.

How did they perform from a project management standpoint?

At the beginning, they used Microsoft Project, but now I have a direct line of communication with the developers. We just go over everything over the phone and  they give us great recommendations. The unstructured approach works better for us because of the nature of our software. We find some bugs, as it can be expected, but they address those issues quickly, so the end result is very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They go out of their way to make things right. Everyone is very pleasant to work with. Their owner is hands-on and helps us with the projects.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Probably in the future they can find a happy medium between a project management tool and having nothing at all in place. That could add a little more structure to some complex projects. But with our projects, there is no need for improvement. They're doing quality work for us.
