Smartym Pro was chosen to expand the client’s internal team and work together in order to develop a blockchain-based platform with a range of additional tools for developers and users.

The goal was to develop two applications (iOS and Android) that would automate processes related to car insurance and car repair in case of an accident. One app was to facilitate the work of insurance agents, while the other is aimed for car mechanics who need to quickly evaluate damages and calculate the amount of works required in case of a car accident. Both applications are to support Android-based tablets (version

AdMark is a platform for sales promotion/social advertising. The platform is used by clothing stores/boutiques.     Smartym Pro has already delivered a mobile and desktop app with a clear, flexible, and scalable architecture. We now have a fully functional and protected messenger with integrated blogs and a cryptowallet. Since our project is still developing and evolving, we can’t say anything about the results yet.

This allows the contracts to be triggered or updated through external factors such as changes in exchange rates, political actions, and sports scores among other criteria.

    With our platform, data providers can opt to become oracles by publishing and monetizing data feeds. By implementing a peer-to-peer curation process, we can rank and verify these feeds for data seekers to subscribe to.

We hired Smartym Pro to build an Initial Coin Offering solution that allowed the distribution and sale of TONNES utility tokens on the Ethereum network.

    The solution involved an Ethereum smart contract, integration with a Know Your Customer provider's API, a web frontend for users, a frontend for administrators, and a backend to orchestrate the process and exchange Ethereum for TONNES tokens.

    Smartym Pro contacted us while we were assessing providers. Our selection process was based on their verifiable reputation, their experience in completing Initial Coin Offerings, the end-to-end cost, the market risk, and their engagement model. We assessed Smartym Pro against vendors in Australia and India. They scored best on experience, understanding of the market, speed and agility, and cost.

    Because Smartym Pro was a new partner, we conducted additional pre-engagement checks, including call-back and address checks, calls with the Belarusian chamber of commerce, and a reference check with a previous client. Everything looked good.

    Smartym Pro designed and developed our Ethereum smart contract, an attractive web frontend, and a secure frontend for admins to manage the Initial Coin Offering process. They also built a backend server and managed integrations with a Know Your Customer API Integration and a private blockchain API. They developed a secure, scalable AWS hosting architecture. We modified the scope and clarified our requirements because they asked good questions.

    I am a co-founder of a startup that provides an Agile marketing automation platform for brand companies and merchants that lets them design and distribute loyalty coupons (passes) to customers.     What business challenge were you trying to address with Smartum Pro?

    We wanted to create an online portal and application for iOS and Android to act as a solution for merchants. I have a commercial background and not an IT background, so I needed the help of another company.

    We need to accomplish 2 goals with our app: increase customer loyalty to the point of sale and minimize communication between the merchant and the customer by decreasing the time spent in direct communication and reducing the risk of errors.

    Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

    Smartum Pro is creating a loyalty service with client behavior analytics. Initially, we started with requirements and design development. Smartum Pro developed a highly detailed specification and design for the whole system and the initial version. The development, testing, and stabilization of this functionality were estimated to be finished in approximately 2 months. After we reviewed it, we decided to cut down the scope to get the functionality delivered in smaller pieces.

    I had some initial ideas, and they provided helpful feedback. We talked about different solutions, what kind of platforms to use, how to design the portal, and how to handle the application in different stages. We first talked about creating the wireframe MVP. At this time, the 2-way application has not been developed. Bundle Loyalty is using wallet (Apple Wallet, Android Wallet, etc.) functionalities to start, but their work will be scalable.

    I read some articles online and talked to 5 or 6 different companies. After I found them on Upwork, Smartum Pro gave me the best feedback and helped me the most. The other companies were kind of vague.

    They created everything in InVision and did a great job. The current product is impressive enough to convince people that I’m working with to continue our development goals.

    How did Smartum Pro perform from a project management standpoint?

    So far, we’ve worked according to a fixed-budget model. They mostly delivered things on time and within my price range. I usually communicate with the business development manager or a project manager. The project manager and the development manager speak English, and they communicate my goals to the Russian-speaking team members. I coordinated with them through Skype and email.  

    What distinguishes Smartum Pro from other providers?

    They deliver what they say they will. They took me seriously when other companies were really vague. All our contacts on their team always answer rapidly, so there have been no delays from their side. It’s hard for me to compare them, though, because this is my first solo development project.

    Sometimes, it’s hard for them to understand exactly what I mean. They have good English skills, but the language barrier can create some problems.

    CityCard Unity offers solutions for sales motivation and customer loyalty. In addition to being a customer loyalty program, CityCard is a franchise as well. By purchasing a franchise, a company connects to the advertising system and becomes a partner. We operate in CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States] B2B and B2C markets. Specifically, our target audience is small and medium-sized businesses. Our solutions allow them to attract and retain customers, as well as motivate users to make purchases. The B2C part provides users with the ability to combine the public places they use into a single discount system.

    What challenge were you trying to address with Smartum Pro?

    We were looking for a technical partner who could handle all technical related issues and help us to migrate our existing offline discount program to digital form. Our expectation was to build a system that allows local small and medium businesses to promote their goods and services. It also has to be quite scalable, from small towns to big cities. 

    SOLUTION

    What was the scope of their involvement?

    All of our development activities are outsourced to Smartum. The Smartum team had to add new features to our system and develop a mechanism for further business expansion. We wanted the ability to add new partners as we sold our franchise. Smartum also needed to provide our partners with a user-friendly interface for B2C communication and customer loyalty management. The main goal was to create a solution for transferring our offline loyalty system online.

    Prior to project development, Smartum came up with several product concepts and started implementing them. Initially, they implemented an online discount card that provides discounts via QR or barcodes generated by the app. Then, they developed an admin panel that allows partner companies to efficiently interact with their audience. It also provides the ability to plug in additional paid services. Finally, Smartum developed an integrated bonus points system, a control panel for regional managers, and analytic tools for service usage tracking.

    Smartum Pro had to extend the functionality of the loyalty program and develop a mechanism to attract partners via franchise purchasing for business growth. They also integrated several cutting-edge technologies in the system, such as ibeacon and chatbots. Right now, the Smartum team is working on the blockchain solution for smart contracts between our partners.

    Our key metric for the development was the quality of the system and its ability to scale up. The product became self-sufficient and started to make profit a year after its launch. We see a growth of about 30% per year. We’ve launched the system in over 40 cities in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Next year, it will be launched in other European countries.

    The communication was very smart. There were a few minor gaps when the development was put on hold with no proper documentation. The budget was higher than we expected, but the system itself became much more complex than it was in the initial stage. For example, we had additional conceptual changes in the system.

    I am the founder and chief executive officer of REalyse. Our company provides UK real estate industry professionals with tools, technologies, and data to give them a significant performance boost. At the moment, we are a compact company of around 10 professionals.

    The main goal was to develop scalable web platform for massive data processing which can provide users with various data on the UK real estate market. Our platform implies some heavy data collection and distribution.

    We found Smartum Pro via a business search platform. We chose them because of reasonable prices, a similar time zone, the right level of expertise, and a collaborative approach. The Smartum Pro team is really communicative, and this is a big thing when it comes to a complex development process.

    The Smartum Pro team helps us with both polishing the front-end part of our platform/landing websites and developing core backend functionality for our main product that allows us to gather massive amounts of data and provide our clients with it.

    Right now we’ve been into the project for several months and we plan to continue our cooperation.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

    We’re still working on the project, so it’s hard for me to talk about specific metrics, but the amount of times where they’ve had to re-do anything was insignificant, and that’s a good thing.

    Smartum Pro has developed and implemented a quite complicated parsing/analysis module which processes real estate data from more than 12,000 locations. They’ve also developed an optimized algorithm that allowed to speed up data collection up to 3 times. Overall, the code quality is really good.

    They also came up with multiple useful suggestions regarding development process and individual system features. The communication process is pretty good; I can hardly remember a single gap.

    They’ve successfully covered the agreed scope, though there were few times when it required more time. Still, they’ve had no problem with working during weekends, which is great especially when you’re on a tight deadline or if something needs a quick fix. I think they can work on their team allocation flow; sometimes it was obvious that the project required more team members.

    BACKGROUND

    Our company provides a platform for searching trucks and freight in North America. Our target audience consists of truckers who need to increase their loaded miles, and brokers, shippers and various manufacturers whose cargo needs to be shipped efficiently.

    Our expectation for hiring an outsourcing team was to speed up development. One of the main KPI’s was a quality result. We also wanted to hire a team that could easily adapt to our own workflow.

    Originally, Smartum's team started with minor tasks, like bugfixing in our iOS app. As our confidence level has increased in their capability and skills, we've assigned to them the development of both of our apps, iOS and Android.

    SOLUTION

    The most important primary task was to update our iOS app with newest development tools (for example, we needed to make UI transfer to auto layouts), update current frameworks and clean up the existing application’s code, so everything would run better. The task itself required a total UI redesign. Smartum's team provided us with fresh and modern design updated according to newest platforms’ guidelines.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

    While working together on our project, we were using time-material mode and the result was within our expectations.

    The iOS application refactoring took a bit more time than it was originally planned, but still all terms/budget changes were quite reasonable. Most of the time was spent on code review and analysis of the reports, provided by third party tools.

    Also, for the purpose of evaluating the overall work quality, we used KPIs like tasks/bug ratio, estimation accuracy, amount of man hours spent, etc.

    So, in the end, the result was satisfactory - Smartum’s price/quality ratio is very good. There were some communication issues because of the time difference, but no other issues.

    BACKGROUND

    I'm the founder of Unius. Unius is a UK based company that provides a Human Resource Management/eLearning platform for internal learning process optimization.

    OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

    Our primary objective was to implement support of mobile devices into the existing system. The project itself was developed by another team (it took us about 2 years), and the system in its current state was hard to customize for our end-customers, so it had to be fixed.

    We started with design prototyping and the creation of a mobile version of the website. Additionally, the Smartum team had to add new features in the existing system, and customize it for one of our clients.

    We decided to select a development team from Eastern Europe mostly because of communication convenience (close time zones) and the high level of technical expertise in that region.

    SOLUTION

    Smartum suggested using RESTful architecture for mobile website development. REST would also allow us to quickly set up everything for further mobile app development and system updates.

    Initially, the system was developed using PHP. Various parts of the product had to be updated. Smartum suggested that we use module-based architecture for our project, so it would make the product much more flexible and we would be able to easily customize required features for each end-client integration. At this point, Smartum continues to work on improving customized versions, tech support, and the SaaS solution.

    RESULTS & FEEDBACK

    As a result, Smartum delivered new features requested by end-customers, developed a mobile version, and an API ready for development of new mobile and desktop clients. Also the product has been optimized for high server loads (3000+ active users) and integrated with our client’s internal systems (Single SignOn , data export/import).

    The project was delivered on time, I can’t say about the budget for sure, as there were many changes and additional tasks, but in terms of separate tasks, the changes in price were reasonable.

    All the tasks mentioned above took Smartum 2.5 months to implement, but there are always new tasks to be done, so we want to continue our partnership.

    The best thing about our cooperation was that Smartum took care of all the technical aspects of the project, and was able to deliver all 3 parallel products from design to technical support.
