I engaged Smartsnese to build an end to end web App for HomePlanner, a platform to support mainly first home buyers on their journey to home or investment property ownership.

The engagement included requirements gathering, UI/UX design, developement, testing and project management throughout.

The key deliverables included:

• Set up of all key development tools and environmentsw 
• Building an onboarding flow for users personal and financial information
• Building a series of calcualtions to help users undestand their financial position and buying power
• Creating a checklist which will alow users click through the home buying journey
• Creating a basic educaiton hub in the App
• Building the webstie

• Cost and Time to delivery were on track, even with some additional budget left over
• The basic expectations of the project were delivered
• Minimal number of bugs to fix in post launch period

Project managemnet was run well with Smartsense, with central coordination of team resources through one project manager which worked well with time differences. The team was accommodating of the fact that we were working with a 5-hour difference in working days.

Delivery was kept on track, and later hours were done to ensure we were hitting expected delivery dates in line with plan. Where changes to this plan were required, they were communicated.

With a fixed budget/timeline project, there may have been a hestitancy to fulfill the harder requiremetns which turned out may have taken a bit longer than originally expected by the team.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Having access to the broad talent base in Smartsense across Design, Front-end, bank-end and project management was hugely valuable.

Are there any areas for improvement or something smartSense Consulting Solutions could have done differently?

As a non technica founder that has been exposed to some impressive engineering and product teams I have always found good documentation of the development design and decsions hugely valuable.

We could have been better on clarifying roles and ownership of documentation, and Smartsense could bring some industry standard documentation templates to the table. Having clealry documented feature requirements, user stories and decisions etc would have ensured we fulfilled all envisioned user stories.

• Build one essential flow for employers to be able to leave comments on employee reviews

The biggest outcome was that we were effectively able to launch our MVP on time with all required features and a pixel-perfect UI :)

As a small scrappy startup, project management was definitely one of smartSense's biggest contribution to our project. They were very proactive in defining requirements and deadlines for deliveries so that we could launch on time, while remaining flexible whenever we needed more time to get to a result we were satisfied with. They brought us a lot of structure that we didn't have when we started working with them and always delivered on time, sometimes even before deadlines!

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What I really liked about smartSense Consulting Solutions is how reliable and trustworthy they were the entire time. All team members were equally involved and motivated in helping us release the best MVP possible and setting us up for success and what's to come. They helped us think through features from another angle from the start and provided us with a ton of suggestions to make the product better.

Management also always checked that everything was running smoothly in the background which I also really appreciated. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something smartSense Consulting Solutions could have done differently?

Two things could have been done better on smartSense's side from our point of view:

• Asynchronous communication: our team currently does not work full-time on the project so async communication is usually preferred over meetings.
• Balance between velocity and quality: our team usually prefers to go slower to ensure less back-and-forth in PRs.

These are of course to be taken with a grain of salt as they are specific to our project and considering that smartSense had a very short onboarding time, they did great!

I’m the founder and CEO of an electric scooter rental platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with smartSense Solutions?

I needed a company to develop our Android application and ended up hiring smartSense Solutions for the job.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

smartSense Solutions developed our Android app from scratch. On the backend, we were also looking to develop an IoT device, and they also helped on that front. The IoT device has geolocating and the remote-control features of the scooter. We had some documentation and wireframes, but most of the heavy lifting and development was done by smartSense Solutions. Whenever we need some releases or future updates, we engage them on an on-demand basis.

What is the team composition?

There are three developers, including a Node.js specialist, a Java expert, and an Android developer. They have a managed service from an IoT standpoint and I don’t know how many people they were using for the backend development.

How did you come to work with smartSense Solutions?

We were specifically looking for people who could help us with Node.js and other Java services. smartSense Solutions had a good set of developers, so we did a small test project with them and continued from there.

We’ve $30,000-$40,000 on this project so far.

We started working together in June 2018, and the collaboration is ongoing.

smartSense Solutions never felt like an outsourced team to us. They took ownership of their work and we didn’t have to chase them much on timelines. They were very proactive in their approach.

There are times that certain decisions need to be made if you know that there’s something that you’d want in the future. smartSense Solutions’ approach is more holistic in the sense that they like to solve everything at once. They could work with their customers more on that.

I’d recommend them to anyone. They have a good set of developers, project managers, and professionals overall.

Their CEO led a team of front- and backend specialists as well as blockchain and wallet infrastructure specialists.

A key factor for us was to evaluate smartSense as a long-term trusted development partner. We have come to appreciate smartSense’s relationship-driven and customer-centric focus. Their team has depth and breadth.

We co-managed the project with regular milestones, pre-agreed steps, and conference calls.

Since we’re based in the UAE, communication can be difficult due to poor-quality VoIP services. smartSense should invest in managing this hurdle.

I’m the CEO of a mobile taxi dispatch platform that allows companies to assign jobs to drivers easily.

What challenge were you trying to address with smartSense Solutions?

We were looking for a software developer.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They first sat down with me and put together a business plan. I told them how I wanted to build our software and they focused on meeting my criteria. They were with me from step one until completion, making sure the servers were running and choosing the technology that was best-suited for me.

They developed the backend system, the website, and the Android and iOS apps. I have GPS location on the platform, which they were able to provide within a short span of time. There's a database for customers’ details and a portal for our partners, which can be accessed easily from both PCs and mobile devices. They also set up a contact form on the website, which links directly to my email.

I worked with 4–5 of their members.

How did you come to work with smartSenseSolutions?

I posted an ad on a freelance website, and they reached out to me over Skype. I chose them because of their pricing and their timeline estimate. Most of the other profiles I looked at didn’t match the criteria I wanted. smartSense was easy to understand, and they were helpful with everything­—they made it easy for me.

I spent around $30,000 on their work.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with them in mid-2016. I have a couple more projects and updates on which I want to work with smartSense. They also keep my website running, making sure that any updates or issues are resolved.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They took care of any issues or bugs straight away. In terms of the quality of response, they were good with timing. At the moment, I have one customer and they’re really happy with how the software works, how fast it is, and how smooth it is; there’s no lag.

How did smartSense Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

There was a small language barrier, but we got through it. There weren’t very many issues. We were working from different time zones, but they always made sure to accommodate my schedule. If I had any issues with the system, they made sure that one of the developers addressed it straight away.

Most of our communication is done via Skype and WhatsApp, and they give me weekly updates. I will hopefully be flying out to meet them soon, and we will work on more projects within the upcoming years.

No, they’re very good.

Make sure to sit down with them and explain as much as possible about the project. Once this is done, they'll provide a business plan, which they're very good at.
