A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of a company that provides software for martial arts schools.
What challenge were you trying to address with Skipfour?
I was building the software, but it got to a point beyond my technical skills. I hired Skipfour to finish the development.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The website helps manage martial arts schools along with their marketing and sales processes. The original platform only worked with one martial arts school and database. Skipfour needed to make the site scalable so multiple clients could use it and have access to the different databases. I provided Skipfour with a detailed list of specifications, wireframes, and consultation assistance. They wrote the platform’s code in PHP, while I handled all the design.
What is the team composition?
Ati (Founder & Chief Strategist, Skipfour) acted as a project manager and worked with around three developers.
How did you come to work with Skipfour?
I found Skipfour during an online search.
How much have you invested with them?
The project cost around $45,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working with Skipfour in September 2018. The work is complete, but we recently signed a support contract with them.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The software is now live and functioning well. There have been minimal bugs that I’ve fixed, and some bugs that went beyond my abilities. Because of those, I’m signing the support contract. But, it was a complex site to develop, and it’s working well.
How did Skipfour perform from a project management standpoint?
We used Freedcamp to interact throughout the process. Ati supplemented most of the communication with the developers, but I was able to send messages and see their comments on the platform. There wasn’t a set schedule for speaking, but Ati was accessible. We would text and talk on the phone whenever we needed to reach each other.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Skipfour is determined to produce a quality product for their clients. Their professional team is excellent at communicating. Ati provided constant reassurances along the way. He also excelled at supervising the development team.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. Whenever I had concerns, I talked to Ati, and he addressed them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Customers should be clear about their specifications at the beginning of the engagement.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the CEO of software consultancy. We also provide development services.
What challenge were you trying to address with Skipfour?
We needed to build a web application.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Skipfour developed the app using the Laravel PHP framework. They also designed the app and integrated PayPal and Stripe payment tools.
What is the team composition?
The founder and chief strategist was our main point of contact. We worked with a four-person team that included one sales resource.
How did you come to work with Skipfour?
One of my friends referred them because the team’s expertise was exactly what we needed. After a couple of meetings, we hired Skipfour due to their past work experience.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent less than $10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them between January–March 2018.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Business increased as a result of their quality work. We had a couple of issues, but they provided support and resolved them easily.
How did Skipfour perform from a project management standpoint?
They performed well, taking proper care of all our requirements. We communicated using WebEx video calls, telephone, and email. We also used online collaboration tools like Freedcamp.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They knew what they were doing and managed the work well. The end-product was good quality.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The early issues were normal for these types of projects. Skipfour learned their mistakes quickly, caught up, and eventually resolved the original requirement gaps.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
It’s important that both parties are clear on the requirements and timelines at the start of the project.

Web and App Development for a Development Agency
"Their agility and nimbleness impressed me the most."

Introduce your business and what you do there.
We're a mobile app development agency.
What challenge were you trying to address with Skipfour?
We have a core team that handles our clients’ unique challenges, but we occasionally need to outsource specific skill sets.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We have a B2B relationship with Skipfour’s development team. They’ve done web and app development in collaboration with our design team, using our in-house UX and UI processes. They build apps for both iOS and Android using: Node.js, React, Java, and Swift.
What is the team composition?
We work primarily with their development team.
How did you come to work with Skipfour?
They’re among the many development companies that’ve reached out to us. We have a vetting process in place when we decide to work with an outside firm. Skipfour completed that process successfully by demonstrating skills we wanted to leverage.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent upwards of the $60,000–$70,000 range.
What is the status of this engagement?
Work started in early 2017 and is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Although our project managers track metrics closely, Skipfour manages their own resources. We’re pleased that stick to sprints timeline, which we use to set deliveries to our client base. Their timeliness reflects their independence and competency.
How did Skipfour perform from a project management standpoint?
We use Jira; tasks are assigned to developers using our Atlassian implementation. Our project managers use Scrum agile methodology to track two-week sprints and we meet on a weekly basis to review those cycles.
There’s a lot of communication between the two companies. Our product manager will tell them if a developer is underperforming or a resource needs to be replaced.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their agility and nimbleness impressed me the most. Many projects must pivot mid-process to meet clients’ changing needs. Skipfour has adjusted quickly when we move forward with those changes.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The team has opportunities for growth. Skipfour could expand the diversity of their skill sets, which would increase possibilities for us to engage them again.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Since I know their clients directly, I’d recommend doing enough research to be prepared for the engagement. Partnerships won’t be successful if clients put all the burden on the vendor.
The website is functioning excellently due to Skipfour’s expert work. Their team is professional and communicative. Their expertise spurred continued engagement. Customers can expect a readily accessible and dedicated team of developers.
