The SilverLogic (tsl.io) is a software development, product design and technology consulting company based in Boca Raton, Florida with 17 hackathon wins. The primary goal of this project was to design, develop and launch a new ecommerce website that will be modern, user-friendly, and optimized for search engines. The website was designed to effectively showcase our products and services, attract new customers, and generate sales. The platform was developed using WordPress as a CMS and Woocommerce as the e-comm solution. Custom development wa big part of it since all of our front end is customize to our needs and our business.

We originally were working with another developer, as we were not aware of SilverLogic at the time. The previous developer shut down and recommended SilverLogic. The experience with SLG was exponentially better. They are incredibly detail oriented, as is necessary in web development. We were impressed with other projects they showed us. And we really enjoyed our initial interactions with them. They understood our vision. It has been a great relationship.

We interface with two members on a regular basis, Project Owners, who then work with a team of developers and designers to build out features we request.

We were having issues with bandwidth and a couple pressing issues that fell somewhat out of the scope of the larger product vision we were working towards, including CRM integration and data collection.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We needed to work with a team that really understands graph data modeling, cypher, and neo4j, along with GraphQL and javascript. We found Silver Logic in a specialized forum for Neo4j users and developers. The fact that Neo4j had hired Silver Logic to build software for them sent a clear signal that they had the specialized knowledge we needed for this work.

They developed tools that could be triggered by GraphQL mutation requests that then retrieve relevant data from our Neo4j database and update our partner's CRM in real-time, with throttling in order to not violate the API terms of service, using node/express.js.

There was one very technical business contact and two engineers that helped us out.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Most importantly: they were able to meet the requirements we set out for them. There was sometimes some back and forth due to gaps in our explanations and the occasional very reasonable misunderstanding. The whole team always maintained a very high level of friendliness and professionalism throughout the entire process.

The used a great tool called approvd.io which made it really easy to communicate the scope of the exact work to be done and maintain everything in a really granular way without a ton of overhead. We communicated easily and liberally throughout the process via email and slack; everything felt very comfortable and natural.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They were incredibly patient as we had many delays on our end. There were multiple months while we went silent because of other priorities, and when we were ready, everything picked up again as though nothing had stopped. I also really appreciated that there was great professionalism without being cold—very nice folks.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
There was a switch-up of engineers in the middle of the process that I think caused some issues because they didn't really have the context they needed to pick things up where they were. This was addressed fairly quickly by putting the original engineer back on the work, which was a satisfactory resolution.
I understand why it happened like that since we moved so slowly to give feedback, so it's not really their fault, but I think they might have handled that hand-off better by providing more context to the second engineer up-front.

I’m the CEO of a large chain of cosmetic laser service centers. We offer laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, laser fat loss, and injectables.

What challenge were you trying to address with The SilverLogic?
The point-of-sale systems available were not ideal for our business model, as we have a number of unique aspects to our operation, including timelines for when people can receive treatment due to mandatory waiting periods and the medical nature of our operations. Using these ill-fit systems led to lots of headaches and the hiring of s significant number of additional teammates to manage everything. This led to our choice to create a custom solution for our business.

What was the scope of their involvement?
They built the software completely from scratch, as well as the services around the application. The app itself is a fully functioning point of sale software, including account management and reporting capabilities. There’s also a marketing component to it, as well as integrations with three different financial companies.

How did you come to work with The SilverLogic?
I was looking for software developers and connected with them through a charitable organization that I’m the co-founder of. We originally tried to work with a team based in India, but the fit wasn’t good. There was a lot of lost communication, and that didn’t work for us, and we ended up building things that weren’t as we intended them to be. There was also an issue in differing time zones.
SilverLogic was a godsend in that they were local, and we were able to visit and meet with their team to hash out our questions and be direct.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $3 million to date.
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working together since March 2019.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve been able to reduce the need for certain staff members, going from needing three staff members per location down to one.
Using the software has increased collections dramatically, reduced bad debt, and reduced the percentage of accounts that we had to do in-house financing on. The software integrates with QuickBooks online to import and export transactions between the two.
Running the phone system through the software alone will save us around $40,000 per year. As we expand the business, the savings could be multiplied by hundreds, as it also saves us subscription costs from other third-party systems we used to need.
How did The SilverLogic perform from a project management standpoint?
They communicate well and are a local development team. They’re responsive when we ask questions and proactive about suggesting things that we haven’t thought about including in the build. This helps prevent potential issues in operations.
They’re very straightforward. One of the things that we like the most about them is that they provide a built-out design before developing a single line of code. What this does for us is prevents us from having to deal with errors after the software is launched. We now understand what we’re getting and are able to approve every element. The code is reviewed side-by-side with our design specifications before launch. It’s been a great project management experience.
We use Slack to communicate, but they also have a proprietary system that they use to manage the project cost and get approvals from us. They also use InVision and Figma for the designs.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They simply write clean code. Additionally, they’re not in a rush; their development team isn’t trying to get something out as soon as possible, as the truly care about what they’re producing. This way, they’re not going to launch something that isn’t optimized and has been put through quality tests.
The insights they provide into the problems we’re facing allow us to be more intelligent with our decision-making around what we’re building. Whereas most firms would build whatever we told them to, SilverLogic has thought things through with us. One example of this is how they wouldn’t just left-align everything on our site, as most people are right-handed.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The main issue is that timelines differ when you’re getting quality. As a business owner, I want everything yesterday, but if I push to get it then, there will be issues with the code.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Think through every aspect of what you’re trying to build. People tend not to realize how involved software development is, particularly around the fact that people assume things happen in software without you having to do anything, but in reality, you have to tell the software what you want it to do. Nothing happens automatically. Therefore, there’s a learning curve around software development, and SilverLogic was very helpful in getting us up to speed.
Additionally, don’t underestimate your project size. Have a conversation with SilverLogic and be specific about what you need. They do a great job of managing expectations, rather than lowballing you on the price and then delivering something that’s insufficient. e
