BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a US software company based in New York that focuses on risk management solutions for the insurance industry.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ServUS Tech?

We aren’t able to hire people during large projects, so we offshore our development. ServUS Tech has given us the flexibility of having a large, solid team in a short period of time. Their work quality is much better than some of the competition.

We use big data technologies, and have in-house developers who are proficient in Apache Cassandra, Kafka, and Spark. ServUS Tech helps us with more regular, backend elements, while our developers focus on high-value-add items.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have a claims, order, and transaction management CRM for the insurance industry, and ServUS Tech has used Java to develop features for the backend of those. They have consistently delivered quality results.

How did you come to work with ServUS Tech?

After they found me, we had several conference calls and I assigned a small project to them. We gave them larger projects after becoming more comfortable with their quality of work, and organizing our communication around different time zones.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our projects typically last for 1-1.5 years. The latest project ServUS Tech handled for us started in the beginning of 2016, and they continue to develop additional modules for us as well as conduct maintenance. They’re starting requirement analysis for another big module we have planned for the end of 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Budget control, time management, and problem solving are all areas in which ServUS Tech has shown proficiency. After we define all the details for a project, ServUS Tech has managed to stick to the plan, stay in the budget, and find solutions no matter the difficulty. ServUS Tech always steps up to the plate, which is one of the key qualities to have in this kind of supplier.

I have allowed some flexibility in meeting deadlines for longer projects, and they have always communicated on progress despite changing circumstances.

How did ServUS Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

The standard practice for offshore companies is that they work on our time. They remain available to us even when it is 10 PM where they are.

What did you find most impressive about ServUS Tech?

We have experience working with numerous outsourced companies, but ServUS Tech has stood out due to their English skills and communication. They are more dedicated to delivering an accurate result rather than simply finishing a project.

Are there any areas ServUS Tech could improve?

Quality assurance has been an area for improvement, but this seems to be an issue with many providers. QA requires a specific review process at all levels, including programming and UX. Sometimes this can alter the timeline, but especially with larger projects. If some pieces end up not being tested properly, the entire application becomes nonfunctional. All offshore companies should be more adamant and stringent with their own QA processes.

What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with ServUS Tech?

I worry about the quality I may get when offshoring due to past experience, but ServUS Tech has been outstanding.
