I am Director of Payer and Provider Operations, responsible for coordination, development and implementation of our system of record and provider portal system.

Serious Development was engaged to develop a portal for our providers and increase the efficiency of our operations team. We needed to offer self serve options for our providers to refer cases, check claim status and payment information. We needed to offload simple inquiries to an online option to free up our operations team for additional activities. We recently launched a new product which expanded our current product from a one day surgical episode of care to a 30 day episode of care. This required us to develop a new work flow capturing and recording all services during a 30 day period. Goal was to produce a user friendly instructional work flow for our providers within a very tight timeframe

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Serious Development created and developed our provider portal. We have been working with them for over 5 years. The project was an extension of the existing portal. We continue to work with Serious Development based on their continued creativity, responsiveness and dedication to our goals.

They designed and developed a solution for submission and tracking of a 30 day episode of care. Initial phase we discussed and developed the workflow and supporting documentation. The design and coding phase ran parallel due to time constraints. The business unit and the technical team met daily to make design adjustments and review and adjust workflow. The project was intricate in that numerous providers would be interacting with the same forms and information needed to flow between forms. The development team needed to be flexible and make adjustments due to elements discovered through out the project. Project was fully tested in sandbox and blue production, then moved to production with no issues.

There were 3 core people on the team, a project manager, 1 senior coder and 1 designer. Due to the time constraint on the new product launch Serious Development pulled other coders and designers into the project. The flow of development and design was extremely organized. I was always aware of the stages of the project and what was expected next.

The project launched on time which was an amazing accomplishment due to the complex nature of the workflow and the short timeline. The technical team could not have been more dedicated to producing a quality product. They worked extremely long hours to make our deadline and launch that a product ready for production.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team knows our business well and provides valuable insight into the design and workflow. I have never worked with a vendor that was as dedicated to the project as the business owner. Omie and his team are very good at understanding the business proposition and incorporating that knowledge into a user friendly end product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Post launch the team has been very attentive to any updates we require or modifications. Everything needs to be documented.

I've worked with Serious development in the past with a former employer (SynerMed) where serious development had designed and implemented all of the business software.

Serious Development is easy to work with as they are familiar with the healthcare setting. We outlined the scope, within days had a demo, addressed some simple details and starting using the system within 90 days of scope review. We also had on the fly enhancement requests which makes the system even better today than originally designed.

Serious Development was nimble and ware during the process and made implementation a seamless process.

System works exactly as intended and Agents as well as staff use it everyday to help with all related business issues.

We had open weekly meetings to review status and sent enhance requests using a "ticket" process to address new features. Serious Development team is always accessible and addresses each request individually and appropriately.

They've learned and knew our business to ensure they could anticipate our needs and potential next steps.

No we receive everything... We have speed to enhance as requested, we have results from our requests and we have feedback that the system is performing as expected.

Provider Connect builds relationships with external providers to increase community engagement to, ultimately, result in external referrals.

The physician liaison tool for tracking touches was enhanced this year - the enhancement provided additional information for reporting and ease of use.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It is easy to communicate and schedule meetings with our account manager. We utilized Slack to communicate directly with the developer which was a fantastic way to streamline communication directly to the developer while allowing our account manager to have visibility to the request.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We are impressed with their ability to always be looking out for our best interests. Ease of communication and opportunity to brainstorm ideas for future projects.

We outgrew our existing software platform which had errors and cumbersome sales order management. We also wanted new features to support new business lines and larger customers.

We found them initially based on having excellent reviews on a website featuring many companies with similar services. After speaking with their senior management and project manager. We felt that not only did they understand our goals and how it fits in with our business needs. This set them apart.

The software development team looked at our existing database to understand structure, ported over MySQL data, architected new structure and then built a custom application meeting our exact business requirements.

The first phase was to replace our Sales Order, Invoicing, and Payment systems. We later asked them to develop an inventory management system that would be able to track our inventory from raw materials, production, international shipments, all the way to finished products getting shipped out to customers.

We worked closely with the project manager, who was part of their senior management. Occasionally, if needed, we had access to their lead developer.

System resulted in needing fewer staff to complete sales and fulfill inventory requests.

System worked well and we added 6+ additional modules focused on different areas of the business, saving countless hours each week for our management team as well.

Eventually, our entire business ran on the platform with the exception of accounting.

Software development senior management came onsite to our business numerous times per quarter to understand our business, envision solutions, and go over released features. Releases were timely, and communication throughout the process was excellent.

It is very hard to find an outsourced development team that is able to understand your business needs the first time, such that very little is lost in translation from the customer meetings to the point where development happens.

Things can always be done faster & cheaper. But given our tight budget and project complexity, we could not have asked for more and we were very happy with the team and the results.
