Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the VP of finance at Roundforest. We’re a technology startup in the e-commerce space that aims to simplify users’ online shopping process and enable more data-driven and educated shopping decisions.
What challenge were you trying to address with SD Solutions?
Because our company was growing quickly, we needed to recruit a team of talented resources to support our workload. We wanted an outsourcing solution that was flexible, but still met all of our demands.
What was the scope of their involvement?
After hearing our needs, SD Solutions provided several developers. They work remotely from their offices, but still dedicate all of their time to our company’s projects. The developers vary in specialty. Server-side and frontend developers manage our websites. Full-stack and backend developers are constantly working to improve our products with new developments and features. There are some additional developers who work on our internal back-office products, big data and machine learning technologies, and other systems. SD Solutions also provides some QA personnel and designers.
What is the team composition?
We started with a few developers, but now we have a team of 15 and I speak to them regularly. On our end, we have a product manager for each product, who is in charge of managing their own team of SD Solutions’ developers.
How did you come to work with SD Solutions?
We searched for developers with at least two years of experience using Ruby on Rails, React, and Java technologies. Our CEO personally knew the owner of SD Solutions and reached out to see if they would be a good fit.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in 2016 and it’s an ongoing partnership.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
SD Solutions provides talented developers that generate high-quality work. Because their service is so refined, they sent employees that complimented our company in terms of professional skills. We’ve worked with a few subcontracting companies, and SD Solutions offers the best services. We have confidence in their collaborative skills, level of knowledge, and the technical abilities of each resource they provide.
How did SD Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
We first approached them based on the speed of their service. They promised three developers in a short period of time. They continued to show that level of responsive customer service throughout the engagement. Their team is consistently attentive, responsible, and detail-oriented. It’s clear that they are very committed to their work with our company.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They are a young company and definitely not perfect yet. SD Solutions could be clearer and more organized with their client management procedures. I would like to have weekly or biweekly meetings to discuss recruitment plans and our current status to make sure are always on the same page. Additionally, they sometimes had trouble finding new developers. It would benefit their company to offer more resource options.
Any advice for potential customers?
First, I recommend working with them. In order to get the most out of the engagement, clients should set up a detailed schedule and a set of clear expectations. Also, it’s good to have to have a single employee that manages the relationship with SD Solutions to keep the project on track.

They’re very easy to interact with and extremely responsive. Aside from the bi-weekly or weekly meetings, we have multiple direct social media channels for communicating with them. Communication is direct, ongoing, and very positive.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Because they understood our business needs, they were able to find skilled candidates on a short timeline. I would also reiterate that communication is easy, simple, and ongoing.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There’s nothing outstanding. We’ve been very happy with them, and the talent they’ve brought in.

If you are precise with what you need, why you need it, and when you need it, they will create an efficient process to find the exact candidates you need.
