We are a law firm who specializes in matrimonial and family law. We have eight attorneys and paralegal staff for a total of 18 employees.

What was your goal for working with Scorpion Design?

We have been working with Scorpion Design for about 10 years. The work started originally with generating a website with maximum optimization. They started with SEO [search engine optimization] work at first. Through the years, we’ve become partners in increasing their involvement and our goal in our work with them is to maximize our website, to make it as current as possible, and to also generate pay-per-click advertising as well as to help determine what opportunities there are for us to get our name known and to have a presence on the Internet.

We want to create and generate links with other companies that are related to us to help get the word out and to develop content for our website. Scorpion’s role has increased and we’ve welcomed the increase in their involvement.

They work on all sorts of digital marketing initiatives for us.

What was your process for selecting Scorpion Design with which to work?

We started with a one-page template about our firm and employees. When I came to the company, I started researching online and seeing websites I liked in particular including one for a New York matrimonial firm. I saw that it was done by Scorpion, and so I called them, and that’s how our engagement started.

It was a website of someone who competes with us in our area, but through the years Scorpion has been terrific in managing their clients and keeping goals separate to do the best that they can for every client. 

Can you provide a ballpark work hour figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

I would estimate we provide enough work for a 35-hour per week focus on our business between all members of their team. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the results of the project?

The results have been positive with incremental growth.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

We do our own monitoring and have tracked the number of leads that we get from them and those leads that convert to actual appointments. They have increased the number of people to our website and people who are familiar with us through the internet significantly during the last 10 years. I don’t think this is a fault of Scorpion’s, but because the market has become so much more competitive and crowded, we now need more calls than before to create the number of appointments and actual retainers we want. They have brought us more leads. We want to improve the quality of the leads so that the people who are calling us are much more committed to making that appointment and going ahead with that case so the conversion rate is higher.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

They are in California and we’re in New York. There was a time when we had a business associate in New York that was soliciting us to give him the opportunity to handle our business. We did and we explained that they’re in California and he’s in New York. We thought that might be better.

Within a month or two, our Internet marketing campaigns were struggling mightily. The freelancer that we hired didn’t know nearly as much as we hoped, we rehired Scorpion after less than two months. They really do know this business. They are specialized and know the business of law, as well as how to market law firms.

In a world where there’s a lot of segmenting going on and you want to get as much traffic as you can, you don’t want to get yourself too fine with keywords, Scorpion is great at finding the right program for legal clients. They know what’s going on in the market. We do meet with other digital marketing companies to make sure we’re up to date and current and they always tell us things that have already been addressed by Scorpion Design. They are current, up to date, and knowledgeable especially compared to their competitors.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

I don’t have any problems to address but if I could make one wish, it would be for Scorpion to hire an Internet tech guru who is just involved with strategy for all their accounts. It would be great if they had someone dedicated to innovation and finding new trends and solutions. This would add more value to clients who want to focus on high-level marketing strategy.

We did a major website revision of our main website in May of 2014. We have three other websites with Scorpion in addition to our main website: a wildlife website, and an oil and gas website and a military justice website.

We expect to be revising those websites in the coming year. They have an off-the-shelf approach in some aspects, but we have asked for more of a customized approach.

What was your process for selecting Scorpion Design with which to work?

Scorpion was in place before I came on board with the company, so I can’t speak to that.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

It is a sizable financial investment. As far as work hours, they’re incredibly responsive. They’re always there when I need them.

When was the work completed?

It’s ongoing. We started in January and got the bulk of the work done on the main project in May. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any stats or metrics to track improvement from the project?

We track PNCs [potential new clients]. We track the return on investment for those as well. We recently increased our PPC [pay-per-click] campaigns based on the fact that we have had good success with the PNCs that are coming in through their websites. We find that works very well in conjunction with the organic content that we put out through blogging, Facebook and LinkedIn.

All of their efforts work hand-in-hand. We have been tracking the PPC investment since we increased the budget a few months ago and are seeing a significant increase in the number of potential new clients that we’re receiving as well as a correlated significant increase in those that we are converting into clients.

We have a definite dollar amount that we can base on those conversions based on the case that they’re in. We are looking at a $10,000 to $15,000 plus return on investments, depending on the type of case. Criminal cases are more lucrative. That’s the area we placed a higher emphasis on the new monies that we’re putting into PPC.

We’re tracking what terms are showing up the most. They’re offering new aspects to their reporting where we can actually go in and help identify which leads are the most productive. That is helping narrow in on terms and also areas where we’re getting good leads. We can identify phone numbers and emails that converted to clients and those that were just spam or worthless inquiries. That has been a nice enhancement.

I have been very happy with my association with Scorpion Design.

Is there anything unique about Scorpion Design that really makes them stand out, compared to other online marketing companies?

I think it’s incredibly important to have teams that have multiple people available to respond to an inquiry. In some companies, the focus is very narrow or they don’t have enough staffing. That’s a big concern for us. We need responsiveness and Scorpion provides what we need.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

Sometimes, I think the design is a little stodgy but I came from the education world where it’s super creative. It’s the law world here, so the websites don’t want to come across as pure advertising. They want to show stability. I think sometimes the design in law firm websites is kind of boring, but that might be marketwide more than this particular company.

I have an infertility medical practice specializing in miscarriages due to immunologic causes. I am the lead physician and principle.

What was your goal for working with Scorpion Design?

Since we are a worldwide practice with referrals from all around the world, we needed to have patients find us online. We have a unique medical subset, but the biggest issue was getting patients to find us. The goal was to develop the website through SEO [search engine optimization]. The patients would do searches for things related to miscarriages that we would cover.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Scorpion's work covered website design and SEO. However, they did many other things. We have a very complicated medical questionnaire that patients have to fill out. They were able to program that questionnaire for me and get it onto the website. So, patients are able to fill out a brief summary where they type in one symptom of their problem. Then, they can go to this very complex questionnaire that, once it's all done, allows me to search the questionnaire for problems using a little bit of artificial intelligence to come up quickly with what the main problem for each patient.

There is a high level of complexity, and they have very good programmers that were able to do this correctly. What we do is an international problem, and Scorpion has us on the Internet all around the world. Because of them, I now get consults from every country and every continent. They translate the English content through Google Translate but, occasionally, I've had them do direct translation.

What was your process for selecting Scorpion with which to work?

I found them randomly on the Internet, doing a search for medical Web design companies.

When was the project completed?

It is ongoing work. We've been working with them for a few years now. The nature of my field is constantly changing. As I change, they have to update the website, and I keep them busy.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Are you satisfied with their work?

We're satisfied with the work, and it's been successful so far. We've been on page 1 of Google for just about every major term related to what we do. I told them that if they got me onto page 1 of Google, that I would change my license plate to PG1GOOGLE. I've been driving around with that license plate for the last year.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

I've probably been getting about 150 new patients a month. That’s a lot. This is from all around the world. We're at a point now where we can't keep up with the number of consult requests that are coming to the website. It's a good problem to have. It's obviously not just a Web design issue, but our success is helping people get pregnant. The exposure and their ability to handle it is a very complex challenge, but Scorpion is great.

I've been through other website companies prior to them. Scorpion is very well organized and very professional. There is never a problem they can't handle. When I went to them for the program for the questionnaire, [which was] highly complex, and they got it done. They’ve never been a problem, and they seem very responsive. They probably have a lot of clients like me. Generally, they make you feel like you're the only client. They get it done.

There is a project manager, somebody assigned to handle my account personally, and there's somebody supervising them who always gets in touch with me. Another person takes care of the pay-per-click campaign, another person for the Web design. They handle all that very well with individual subject matter experts driving each piece of the overall campaign.

Is there anything unique about Scorpion Design that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

I've dealt with other companies that don’t have design that’s as professional as Scorpion. I think the programming is key. Their programmers are excellent. To me, the website design and the programming stands out the most. Whatever they do with SEO, we've been on page 1 of Google for a long time, is clearly the goal since users have to find the site. First, you have to get them into your website, and then you have to sell them. So, you need the SEO part as well as the website design. Both of those have been optimal with Scorpion Design.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

The only problem I saw with them was that they were not really geared toward medical topics. They're mostly a legal-oriented firm. When I came in, medical was new to them, so I had to do a lot of the revision on the medical text, which you had to expect. I think that has improved in time. However, dealing with the very complex field of medicine, I would have to do that with anybody. They got it fairly quickly, and it got done.

I have a patient who sends in a questionnaire and will email me saying that there's a glitch, that the question is not working, or it's getting stuck on page three. I email the company, and they contact the patient. They fix the glitch, and it works.

It's just their knowledge of medicine, which you couldn’t expect anyway. They’ll try to write the text, which doesn’t always jive with what I need, and I have to rewrite it. I don't think anybody else could have done any better.

What was your process for selecting Scorpion Design with which to work?

In 2009, I hired a company that may not even exist anymore to teach me about the Internet and how to approach online marketing. I hired them to give me general advice. They were a consultant. Once I learned about online marketing from a 101 standpoint, I looked around St. Louis and determined who the top legal marketers were, using the new skills I possessed from the consultants. I learned about SEO [search engine optimization] and how to search for things online from the mindset of a client. I quickly figured out who the top online law firms were, and a couple of them used Scorpion. I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel.

Can you provide a ballpark work hour figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

When I ask for a change to the website, they make it. When I ask for a new landing page, such as if we enter a new drug settlement program, they'll quickly do a landing page for me. They're a very responsive partner.

When was the work completed?

We've been with them since 2010. This is all ongoing work.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

We closely track all of our leads and all of our intakes in a proprietary cloud-based software that we developed just for our firm, called LeadTracker. I think when we last looked a couple of days ago, I originate around 40 to 45 leads a month from our website activities. That would be SEO and pay-per-click campaigns. I think we sign 10 to 12 cases a month from the Internet. It fluctuates, depending on the given month and the weather conditions. That’s a fair estimate.

Yes, it's a positive ROI [return on investment] for us.

Is there anything unique about Scorpion Design that really makes them stand out, compared to other online marketing companies?

I haven’t hired other online marketing companies. I went with them as our first and only online marketing partner. I've never heard any negative comments about Scorpion, and I think they have several thousand law firm clients, so clearly, they’ve happened upon a successful formula.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

I know it's important to identify areas of improvement. We all find weaknesses in life in some way. If I thought long and hard, I could probably nitpick, but it wouldn’t be entirely fair and I don’t feel entirely comfortable doing it. I have a positive feeling about them. I can't think of anything that comes to mind to criticize.
