Introduce your business and what you do there.

I primarily work as the business manager for Dr. William Hall, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. I deal with sales, operations, marketing, and branding tasks. I work in-house, but I'm also technically a contractor since I have my own advertising agency called Olive Mill Marketing and Advertising. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Root K?

As a business manager, I can’t do every campaign by myself and I need to delegate tasks. I used to do all of the marketing work by myself, but now I need confident people to do what needs to be done. That’s why I hired Root K. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

George (CEO & Founder) helps me with writing email marketing campaigns, interfacing with clients, and creating reports on our funnels and ROI from ads. He does everything from copywriting to creating landing pages and setting up ad campaigns. He works on the marketing front as well as for my own projects.

We usually strategize together on big projects, but I let him work independently on smaller marketing campaigns. He also helps me find and manage other third-party vendors.

George is my main point of contact. 

How did you come to work with Root K?

When I started working with George, I was expanding my agency business, and he was on an online marketing forum, asking great questions. He was curious and motivated when I spoke to him, and he seemed to be a great hire, so I hired him to work in my agency. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2018, and the engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’ve received robust services from Root K. In the most recent email campaign that George helped me with, we had great open rates and CTRs percentage-wise. We’ve also had a range of 7%–15% conversion rate. There’s been good ROI from that campaign that made it worth continuing. 

It's also a relief for me when he helps me find other third-party vendors. I’ve given him referrals to people looking to work with an ad agency, and some of those clients had shoestring budgets. I wasn’t sure if he’d take them, but he did, and he made them very successful. 

How did Root K perform from a project management standpoint?

George’s project management is good, and he’s more organized than I am. He plans meetings and sets deadlines in advance, and he sticks to them. I’ve hired other people who do good work, but the turnover was frustrating. Meanwhile, George’s turnover is good, and he’s great at organization and meeting deadlines. For example, when we had more client-facing work, he did all the weekly reports on our initiatives for the clients. 

We usually communicate via text or voice messages on WhatsApp. Any time we’re doing a project, we’ll have Zoom meetings. We coordinate details and briefings, and then we have personal meetings. I don’t do emails because it’s time-consuming. Usually, I send five-minute briefings and give parameters for the tasks. If I haven’t said enough, George asks some questions. Sometimes, we meet in person if we need to collaborate on something. He then does all the work. 

Another great thing about George is that he adapts to my schedule for my convenience, so he’s flexible. When we set meetings, we set them in eastern time. This attention to detail is nice. Moreover, even though he usually does advanced planning, he still works with me when I need to work on the spot and play things by ear. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I've worked with a lot of service providers and companies in the past, and I've always found something unsatisfactory or frustrating about them. However, I could say George is completely dependable. He does a good job, and he's thorough, so he won't submit something with mistakes. He triple-checks his work. He’s utterly dependable to do a good and thorough job in a timely fashion. He's the whole package.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. I don’t have anything negative to say about George. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have well-defined projects and be a good client. Take advantage of the handful of things you can use to maximize whatever campaigns you’re working on, such as split-testing, tracking metrics, and data analysis. For example, if you’re going to create a copy for something, you should also have George do split-testing.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the Head of Search & Founder of a small SEO-specialised agency. We develop complete SEO campaigns for small-and-medium-sized clients within the Yorkshire area.

For what projects/services did your company hire Root K?

As a fairly new digital agency we needed to design a content strategy to cover both our core pages and the blog section, which is currently being built, and required a content marketing agency to design that for us.

We asked Root K to proof-read our website as well as designing a content strategy for the blog section.

What were your goals for this project?

We had two clear goals, improving our core pages to deliver the best possible copy and increase our traffic through high quality articles for our blog

SOLUTION

How did you select Root K?

Root K put together a very efficient strategy to analyse the content of our website and started suggesting changes based on our audience and potential clients. On the other side of the project they designed a really impressive content marketing strategy that covered 12 blog articles.

Each one of those was delivered with a comprehensive analysis and a set of deliverables. We're still working with them to implement that new content and structure the whole blog section.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

For the proof-reading they took the content from our website and provided a Google document with the suggested changes. Once they went through the approval sections we made the changes ourselves.

For the content sterategy, we had an initial strategy briefing to explain the objectives of the campaign and then they delivered the campaign strategy based on our requirements.

What was the team composition?

George was the person in charge of the project, we also had some brief communications with some other members of the team that required certain information.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are very happy with the new content and it seems to match perfectly with our audience. The content strategy has not been implemented yes but it looks really impressive.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Very effective. We had several meetings to clarify points and never had any problem.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The attention to detail and the effectiveness of the overall communication is impressive. We could always make suggestions regarding the content and the final result was great.
