A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the owner, CEO, and founder of The Food Shop. We manufacture food products.
What challenge were you trying to address with Roar Studios?
We hired them for branding services including design and packaging.
What was the scope of their involvement?
I had approached them, and I asked the owner if they would be able to help me with creating a logo for the company, business cards, and overall branding.
We went into depth about my plans, goals, mission, and vision for the company, and why I chose the name that I did. We must have spent a good a week going back and forth going over the details. They provided multiple options for logos and branding over multiple rounds. Using my feedback, they were really able to hone in on what we were envisioning.
I have done six projects with them, two of which were last-minute emergencies after the original vendors fell through.
What is the team composition?
I worked with three team members for the initial branding project –– the owner, the designer, and the project manager. Over the years, I have worked with the entire team there and I currently work with around five people.
How did you come to work with Roar Studios?
My husband had introduced me to them. He had worked with the owner on previous projects.
I liked the approach that the owner and the team at Roar Studios had because not only was I evaluating them as a vendor, they were also evaluating me as a customer and I appreciated that a lot. In my opinion, that was one of the key factors that differentiated them.
How much have you invested in them?
I must have spent around $15,000–$20,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
My work with them began in June 2015. They are still managing my entire portfolio including my brands and social media accounts.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They get my brand better than I do. I have shown my website and their work to so many of my mentors, as well as my sales team, and all of them ask who my designer is. They have all been impressed with their work. All of the visual work on my website and Instagram is 100% them. Their work is very classy, authentic, and honest.
I liked the way they handled me as a client as well as their customer service, flexibility, work ethic, and receptiveness to feedback. They’re not hesitant to give us feedback when we are unclear on something or if we are not looking at things correctly. They guided us through branding and then worked with my marketing and sales team.
I think they are my biggest assets. I look at them as an extended arm of my company and I don’t think I could survive without them.
How did Roar Studios perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re very prompt. They’re very patient and work with us on deadlines. If they can’t meet a deadline because of project difficulties, they are very good at communicating about that ahead of time. I don’t remember an instance where we have not made a deadline.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I think if there was one thing I had to pick, it would be their owner. He is just amazing, and it is because of him that Roar Studios is the way it is. He just has a passion for finding the right clients that are the best fit for the company.
Secondly, because they knew I was new to everything, they were very patient with me. They brought me on board and slowly and I steadily grew my company with them. They are running a business, but for them, customer service and customer care are prime, more than the money. If we are unhappy about something, they will jump on it right away.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I would like them to talk about why they excel in their work. The owner is actually a professor, and he teaches at a design school. Brand design is not as easy as we make it out to be. There is a lot of thought that goes into it. They should educate the clients about why they are so good at what they do and what makes brand design their biggest asset.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be clear on your ask. If you just want something that is going to represent whatever your project is, have clear expectations. If you’re vague, they’ll come back at you with a bunch of questions, so be patient. I didn’t know that and I had to go through a series of questions with them because they wanted to get it right for me.
Roar Studios has become an essential part of The Food Shop’s team. Their expertise was integral to the success of the business. They’re hard-working, customer-focused, and patient. Their designs are unique and authentic, making them stand out from the competition.
