We worked together for about a year until around the summer of 2018.

They were very responsive and organized, communicating mostly through email.

They were very professional and had great suggestions for ways to improve our site. I felt like they knew the business well and are experts in their field.

There was some room for improving timelines, but I understand my project was probably smaller than a lot of the work they generally take on.

What challenge were you trying to address with Reputation Rhino?

Despite the published guidelines of popular social media channels, we were contending with issues around online commentary that was affecting our reputation. We decided that we needed a higher level of support in dealing with these comments and activities, especially regarding legal action and reputation management.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our general online reporting or flagging of false statements had not been successful, so Reputation Rhino analyzed certain content to identify issues, such as copyright infringement among other things, such as libel, which we didn’t have the knowledge or capacity to pursue.

They extended the reach of our more positive content by placing executive profiles in advantageous places. Additionally, they provided good counsel in terms of certain keywords and the most beneficial online tactics to present our best content upfront.

I worked directly with Todd Williams (CEO, Reputation Rhino).

How did you come to work with Reputation Rhino?

Out of the several companies we found through online research, Reputation Rhino was the only one that offered possible legal options to address our problems. They took the approach of lawyers wanting to build our reputation, instead of a technical team wanting to increase our security.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent just under $50,000, which includes a monthly retainer and fees for additional legal services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2017, and the work is ongoing. We recently launched a website and knew that we wanted to retain their services for about six months after the launch. Whenever the current contract ends, we all are of the understanding that we’ll budget for future ongoing support because of how helpful their counsel is.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve always known that part of the strategy for contending with negative search rankings is to elevate positive content, and they certainly helped expand the reach of that more favorable content. Their approach to promoting our positive content helped increase traffic to our positive links and suppress some of the negative ones. Through monitoring our search rankings, we have watched less desirable links be pushed to later pages in the search, which ultimately improves site traffic. We’re updating our Google Analytics now, so I can’t give an exact metric on our page traffic, but this project was also strongly concerned with the visibility of slanderous content, which has drastically decreased.

How did Reputation Rhino perform from a project management standpoint?

They provided specific and clear guidance in language that was easy to understand. I had many honest conversations with Todd about the issues we were dealing with. It was an excellent partnership. He was always available to answer questions from the board, the executives, or myself, and I really appreciated his level of discretion in dealing with some of the things we had to resolve.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When we were doing online research, the bulk of the services and companies we looked at seemed to be selling a specific product or trying to get customers to buy higher levels of security. Reputation Rhino offered a completely different service. They had lawyers on their team that understood specific business issues we were dealing with. They never presented us with a packaged service, it was always based specifically on what we needed to pursue.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything. They provide a good service and stood out in the industry in terms of what they do, how they do it, and how they talk about it.

The primary services we needed were SEO and social media management. We hired Reputation Rhino to take care of our social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook. They also took care of SEO for our website.

Reputation Rhino's overall approach was broad. We held weekly status calls to discuss their plans before they implemented anything. They brainstormed messaging and content and got approval from our side before producing it. After that, they did virtually everything on their own. Apart from the weekly status updates, they sent us formal reports at the end of every month. We went through the numbers together.

We worked with the owner, Todd (CEO and Owner, Reputation Rhino). 

How did you come to work with Reputation Rhino?

We found Reputation Rhino through Upwork. At the time, it was called Elance. Many vendors replied to the RFP we posted, and we selected their team.

Annually, we were spending around $25,000.

We worked together from January 2014–December 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Reputation Rhino secured 5,000 likes on Facebook within the span of one year. We started fresh with zero connections. 

How did Reputation Rhino perform from a project management standpoint?

They did a decent job and followed the basic guidelines. We didn't have much to do for project management because SEO and social media management are not overly complex. We had weekly cadences, and they took care of anything we needed. They used Basecamp and relied on other tools as well. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

My relationship with the owner was excellent. The reason I stuck with the team for so long was their willingness to offer help and guidance that went beyond the scope. Reputation Rhino partnered with us overall rather than just working on a project basis. It was much more valuable than merely sticking to a quote. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Overall from a project perspective, I don't see anything specific to highlight. We had initially used the team for complex IT services, but they were too expensive. We could find more affordable ones elsewhere.
