We followed a thorough vendor selection process and after a few rounds of interviews with multiple companies, we were impressed with Red Tag's dedication and expertise, as well as the success stories they demonstrated in the selection process.

We worked on various projects throughout our partnership. For each of those projects, Red Tag has offered staff augmentation and Salesforce expertise extensions to our in-house team.

We created a RFP type questionnaire, spreadsheet for measuring and assigning points based on responses, and then shortlisted 2-3 vendors. We held multiple rounds of interviews before deciding on Red Tag and then began a pilot project together. Upon success of the pilot project, we expanded our relationship together.

Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?
We have delivered multiple successful projects to our customers and grown the Salesforce practice at our company since we were previously limited to two Salesforce developers working a Foundry52. We were able to take on more work since the model Red Tag offers is designed and suited for ad-hoc and unexpected changes in demand and this ensures we always have the right amount of resources for each project.

Communication and ongoing project work have been a breeze with Red Tag. We get informative, timely responses and Red Tag's resources feel very much a part of our team. They have been flexible about accommodating some last minute requests and ensure an adequate amount of overlap in business hours to allow for informal communication with our team.

I am the CTO of Affilio. We build software for the e-commerce market.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with RedTag?
We had some aggressive development timelines, and we lacked enough manpower to achieve them. We needed more developers, so we decided to augment our team.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We tasked RedTag with designing everything related to the backend architecture. We didn’t have much visual or UX design to do, but we had a lot of technical architecture of which RedTag built critical parts. They acted as a team while working in concert with our side as well. They would come back with the design, review a stack, and then build it.
What is the team composition?
The team scaled from one contractor to 5–6 at most. We asked for a senior developer to serve as a project manager, maintaining the team’s flow and serving as our main point of contact. We wanted a remote team for their speed, price, and flexibility, but we also wanted someone on the ground who we could rely on.
How did you come to work with RedTag?
I was introduced to RedTag via a friend and former co-worker; they had worked with RedTag in the past and had a successful experience. We needed to scale the team quickly as we had a couple of projects come up. We started with one contractor to see how the whole process went.
How much have you invested in them?
We spent between $100,000—$150,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them on this project from January 2018–January 2019.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
This was my first time doing a project like this, and I was worried about the quality of work that a contracting team would provide. RedTag alleviated my concerns almost immediately. They took our project seriously, assembled a fantastic group of developers, and produced high-quality work without issue. Our clients consist of large companies with hundreds of millions of users. They have been very happy with our product’s reliability and ability to support their user load. Redtag’s work integrates seamlessly with ours, allowing us to ship quickly without our clients noticing a difference. That, to me, speaks volumes.
How did RedTag perform from a project management standpoint?
Our project lacked hard deadlines; we just wanted to get it done as quickly as we can and to stay in constant communication. We treated RedTag as an extension of the larger team almost as if they were full-time. Despite a nearly 12-hour time difference between us, accessibility was never an issue. They were always in touch, and we had regular meetings. They worked around our schedule and were so available and helpful.
We used GitLab which has an issue management tracking system. We would discuss the project status weekly and then track future tasks and priorities. We communicated in real time on Slack.
What did you find most impressive about them?
RedTag’s communication was the sole reason the collaboration worked so well. I can’t stress enough how available and helpful they were throughout the whole process. They truly joined our team, and we built a shared culture with them which was really special.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Nothing immediately comes to mind.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
The language barrier can sometimes cause issues. We at first wanted one developer on the ground who speaks English very well and who is very communicative. As we expanded the team, it became less feasible for everyone to speak English. It was hard from time to time, and we lacked processes to foster a close culture with a larger team. Clients should keep this in mind for future engagements.
