BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the lead software engineer at Vaqancies, a startup in HR tech. We’re building a new applicant tracking system, where the client can create their own career pages and manage their candidates.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Rebels?
We needed a company to help us develop our applicant tracking system.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They provide us with people who are helping to develop our platform, mainly on the frontend because we don’t have that expertise in-house. We are building career pages for each client and we want those pages to be optimized and good for indexing by Google and Google Jobs. They help with building these pages for each client in a generic way that we can reuse.
They use a JavaScript framework hosted on Versal; they use Versal in-house for all kinds of projects. We hired one of their developers for a few months, and he’s still with us twice a week to help us build this part of the product. He followed our processes.
What is the team composition?
At the start, we had three people working for three months and then we scaled down to two people for 2-3 months. Now we just have one person remaining.
How did you come to work with Rebels?
We share a common shareholder. I interviewed them and realized they had a good amount of knowledge about the frontend and what we needed to build. They knew the product because of the shareholder, so this was an easy decision.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $250,000–$500,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2020 and the work is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Their service is great. They’re a bunch of smart people. At their office, the other developers can talk to them and discuss the product with them. I’m having a great experience working with them. I’d definitely recommend them.
How did Rebels perform from a project management standpoint?
We manage the project. They provide their hours and good information on what their people worked on. I can check the invoices and make sure that it is aligned with my own notes. They use a time tracking tool to track their hours to see how the project is progressing from their end.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re a young group of people and also a startup, so, in that way, we’re a little bit similar. It’s a fun bunch of people to work with. They always have great ideas on how to improve the product.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there’s nothing I’d have them improve.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Get them involved from the start. They have a lot of knowledge about product and have people who have worked in different companies. Involve them early to help you shape your ideas. They've helped us a lot with that.
