Technology Demonstrator

HFQ® Technology is a breakthrough technology enabling the manufacture of lighter, cost-effective structures from high-strength sheet aluminium. Impression Technologies Ltd licenses HFQ® for use in markets including Automotive, Aerospace and Consumer Goods.

Our Designers and Engineers worked with Impression Technologies to develop a promotional product that demonstrates the capabilities of HFQ® Technology. Design

ideas were worked through from concept sketches to being ready for production using both the product requirements and the manufacturing process capabilities. 3D prototypes were printed and machined directly from 3D CAD before final design sign-off using full-strength production prototypes.

Our Manufacturing Engineers assisted with the design of the production tooling, including delivering a full suite of tool manufacturing drawings and manufactured components.
Manufacturing Equipment Image

Manufacturing Equipment

Unspun approached our agency to help them to research, design and develop an industrial felt milling machine for hardening the fabric using the traditional techniques. There are existing machines, but the only ones left in the country are museum pieces over one hundred years old, presenting us with a unique opportunity to thoroughly re-imagine a significant and historic piece of industrial heritage.

Our Mechanical

Engineers worked from photos and diagrams in an 1892 patent to create a layout of the form and range of motion for the machine. The framework was upgraded from cast iron to laser cut and welded mild and stainless steel and the motion system was redesigned from being a belt-driven crank to a highly tuneable pneumatic and stepper motor driven system with electronic controls. The bearing system was enhanced from highly greased wooden blocks to precise hardened steel rails with dry-lined bearings and modern safety features were added including interlocked covers and emergency stop buttons.
InterVision Gloabl UDA Formaxx Image

InterVision Gloabl UDA Formaxx

IterVision Global are a leader in machine vision systems, supplying companies within the Food & Beverage, Healthcare & Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Life Sciences, Defence and Machine Building market sectors.

Their systems and solutions allow manufacturers to adhere to ever-increasing levels of industry compliance, improve productivity & yield levels and deliver a competitive advantage in their

manufacturing processes.

The UDA Formaxx is a printer for pharmaceutical packaging with an incorporated vision system to check the quality of the print and a reject station to remove any parts not meeting the required quality level. Our Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers designed a casing for the machine that prevents access to moving parts in line with the machinery directive but still opens for loading and servicing. We also designed the clear acrylic lid that raises and lowers with assistance from two gas struts.
InterVision Global CanCode Image

InterVision Global CanCode

Raymont-Osman helped InterVison Global redesign and optimise one of their existing industrial camera systems to improve the ease of manufacture, improve robustness, reduce installation time and allow for offline set-up. This reduces the time required to build and install each unit and improves the ease of servicing and maintenance for InterVision Global's worldwide customers. We also redesigned some of the user serviceable

parts so that the updated camera systems can be cleaned and maintained by the customer's maintenance staff in a reduced time and with a decreased number of spares in stock.

Our Mechanical Engineers created both 3D CAD and 2D technical drawings and helped InterVision Global to find high quality suppliers.
Endura Studio Image

Endura Studio

Raymont-Osman's Design and Digital team recently helped cycling brand Endura Sport to create a prototype clothing designer app. The progressive web app, called Endura Studio, allows cyclists and cycling teams to create their own custom jerseys and send the design for manufacture in the company's high tech manufacturing facilities near Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Endura Studio app makes use of the latest 3D frameworks

and web based technologies, including Three.js, material design, Facebook's React.js, Blender and WebGL to allow the team to succeed by helping them to continually test and learn with cyclists and athletes. We used actual fabric cutting patterns to create 3D graphical models of the jerseys that were then digitally draped over 3D scanned people in software usually used in the computer games and film making industries.
Speedo V-Class Goggles Image

Speedo V-Class Goggles

peedo’s V-Class goggles are a new, premium range of swimming goggles, combining performance with style. There are two styles available, Vue and Virtue. Virue has balanced and poised styling and is for smaller faces while the more aggressively styled Vue has a better fit for larger face.

We’re extremely proud to have worked with the talented Speedo Aqualab and Design teams to assist with the design and development of

these goggles. Our Mechanical Engineers converted the design to be suitable for manufacture, ran simulations to check the strength, performance and suitability for injection moulding, developed the lens optics with minimal distortion, worked with the supplier to achieve outstanding quality and subjected the goggles to rigorous physical testing to ensure the customers have a robust and long lasting pair of goggles.
Speedo Fastskin Pure Focus Image

Speedo Fastskin Pure Focus

Raymont-Osman's Engineers and Designers helped Speedo to realise the Fastskin Pure Focus which was released in March 2019 in preparation for Tokyo 2020. Balancing aesthetic with performance, the goggle has 5% reduced drag compared to its predecessor, making it the fastest goggle in the Speedo range.

Designed and developed in collaboration with elite athletes, including Caeleb Dressel, Kim Seo-Yeong, Duncan Scott and

Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, the innovative three-material moulding provides the wearer with extended vision, hydrodynamic flow and an ergonomically sculpted seal to the face, all of which combine to provide world-class, medal winning, performance.

Feedback summary:

The designs have worked well and received positive feedback. The client is very happy with the clarity and fit of the solutions. Raymont-Osman Product Design has mastered the client's materials and processes in a clever manner. Effective communication complements their project management style.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of innovations for a metal company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Raymont-Osman Product Design?

We needed design work done for several products.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided Raymont-Osman with a brief spec of our requirements. Once they clarified the specifications, they started the design work. Their team held several design reviews to ensure they were on track, and then finished off with drawings, or computer-aided designs (CADs), that we provided to a manufacturer to make up.

Raymont-Osman has made simple frames for us, as well as handled concept work for many products. Most of their designs are for internal use on the industrial side. They’ve done design for and made a giveaway product. They continue to provide support on an as-needed basis.

What is the team composition?

We usually work with 2–3 people.

How did you come to work with Raymont-Osman Product Design?

I knew the CEO. They gave a quote that was exactly what we wanted so I introduced him to some others within the company.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together around February 2016, and it’s an ongoing engagement.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The design work they did, including some electronics for a test facility, worked very well and was amazing. We had excellent feedback on the giveaway item they created. Raymont-Osman’s use of our material and processes was very clever. Their design has a spark to it, not like that of a standard designer.

How did Raymont-Osman Product Design perform from a project management standpoint?

They do very well. We generally communicate through phone and email. Prior to COVID-19, we would meet in person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really appreciate the clarity of the solutions they have as well as how well they fit for us. We're very happy working with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure they fully understand your expectations. Good communication is key to a successful project.
