What challenge were you trying to address with Quality Tech Lab?

We only provide developers, so we don't have the ability to complete the software testing cycle. From time to time, we reach out to other companies that specialize in software testing so that they can provide their services to us. This way, we can provide clients with the full development cycle, including software testing.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Not all of our clients require professional software testing, which is why we don’t have the service in-house. We only do manual testing and sometimes automated testing. We partnered with Quality Tech Lab to help us satisfy one of our biggest client's requirements. Their responsibilities consisted of smoke testing, stress testing, functional testing, and more.

We hired four testers and a project manager.

Our first project ran from May 2021–December 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

By working with Quality Tech Lab, we were able to provide our client with the full cycle of software development, including the development itself, software testing, and DevOps. The team helped us finalize the entire project and did not fail. Parts of the project fell on their shoulders, and they did a great job for us. There were some impediments on our side, but they were able to finish everything in a timely manner and with a very good outcome.

How did Quality Tech Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Quality Tech Lab was slightly under budget and delivered everything they promised. Everything was done in a timely manner. Even when our point of contact wasn’t available, someone was always on call when needed them. They always responded within one or two hours. Communication went well; we mostly used Slack and email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really appreciated the initiative they took. One of the best things is that we didn't need to follow them around to ensure they were getting the work done. They always kept in touch with us, even when there were issues. The team always notified us of issues before we uncovered them ourselves, which is why I hold them in such high regard.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our IT is being improved so quickly that we always need to catch up. They can always improve and explore more areas in software testing to provide good quality results as they have before.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You can fully rely on Quality Tech Lab. Don’t micromanage them; they will do their job and meet your expectations. They prefer working in a comfortable environment without too much stress. They always try to accomplish their tasks in a timely manner, and putting too much stress on them and constantly asking for updates will only push the deadlines.

Being involved in multiple projects, engineers and testers from QT-Lab contribute to all stages of software project delivery - from planning/estimation to final release. The tech stack spans from Manual/Automation Testing to development with Java and React languages and frameworks.

Up to 10 people from the vendor's team are working on our projects, and we were shrinking or growing the team from the vendor based on our needs. We typically hire intermediate and senior people from our vendors.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

With the help of the QT-Lab team, we were able to deliver a project with a super-tight delivery timeline for a strategic customer, which allowed us to extend the project to another phase.

The engineers from Quality Tech Lab are fully integrated into our project teams and are contributing under the classic Outstaffing model in an Agile Scrum methodology.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive thing about the company, team, and the founder of QT-Lab is the incredible business and tech FLEXIBILITY these guys consistently demonstrate.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Though everything has been smooth so far, I wish people from QT-Lab were putting more effort into the business side of the projects they are contributing to have a broader picture of the business needs and bring even more value to customers.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Automated testing saved us a lot of time. Before, we were doing everything manually and there were always some tricky bugs left in released packages. Now we have high quality bug reports and have a time to fix them before releasing.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We are utilizing all nowadays channels for fast and effective communications, like Telegram, Jira, Google Meet, etc. We also have bi-weekly planning and retrospective meetings to synchronize our tasks and expectations.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They offered high-level QA testing at an affordable price. Their team was very friendly, which made our collaboration more effective.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I wish they would offer penetration testing. That would help them expand their services.

I was the former CEO and co-founder of a company that built bespoke technologies for various clients. We worked with e-commerce businesses and other types of businesses looking to build bespoke software. We had engineering teams both onshore and offshore; we had a deep bench of developers and engineers that could work on various technologies.

We hired Quality Tech Lab to do QA work for us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Whenever we put out something into a sandbox environment, Quality Tech Lab performed all QA testings on the product. That way, we ensured that the product worked before we send it to the world. They had tools that they’d created specifically for their QA process and tools that other QA testers commonly used. 

In terms of our work process, we’d initially give Quality Tech Lab the scope of the project. We’d send them files, and then they’d use our tools to make sure that everything was working fine. They had access to our sandbox environment, in which they performed the QA tests. There were also occasions when they used their own sandbox environment.

To be clear, this process followed our design, and the Quality Tech Lab team had their own complete system. They had tools and everything they needed in-house, but our teams chose to follow our own process design.

We worked with 1–4 people on any given project. The team composition also depended on the project size. They had a deep bench, so if we had a massive project that required many resources, they could scale up the team.

My partner and co-founder had worked with Aram (Founder & CEO) in the past. He always did a great job, so we decided to work with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $25–$50 per hour based on the projects we worked on with Quality Tech Lab. The total would be between $10,000–$49,000.

The project lasted from October 2019–December 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Quality Tech Lab was expedient and thorough in their work. After our first check of their QA tests, we didn’t have to check again because of their thoroughness. They worked quickly, and we had regular dialogue with them — they were always available for us. Overall, their quality was exceptionally high and their process was truly fluid. 

How did Quality Tech Lab perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was great. Quality Tech Lab followed our SOPs, which differed from what they’d do internally. They completed adapted to our project management practices, which was great. The team was outstanding, and their resources were always available to work with us. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Quality Tech Lab differentiated themselves in a number of ways. For one, they were massively cost-effective. They also almost always delivered ahead of schedule. More importantly, the team was willing to go above and beyond what one would normally expect from an outsourced QA testing company. 

For instance, their resources were willing to jump on a call with our end clients to walk them through the bugs they’d detected. They’d also tell the customers where we were in the process. Moreover, we were an agile shop, so we worked in two-week sprints. Given that, Quality Tech Lab always had people on the right timezones who could work with us within the same schedule. 

On top of that, they were more of a strategic partner to us than a utility vendor. As a utility partner, Quality Tech Lab worked perfectly well. As a strategic partner, they provided us with recommendations that were more expedient for us even though they’d lose money because we were billed hourly. In other words, they provided us with white-glove solutions where they dove deep into our work to find out everything that was happening. Then, they gave us their input and offered salient and cogent feedback.

Are there any areas they could improve?

This is more of a piece of advice rather than an area of improvement: they should have more people in areas outside of their core headquarters as they grow as a company. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should know that you’re going to get a true partner with Quality Tech Lab. They’ll go above and beyond simple QA and project management. The team will dive deep and acquire a thorough understanding of your project. They’ll provide you with solid work; they’ll give you information and knowledge that you may not already have. Beyond that, Aram has incredibly deep knowledge in terms of QA and management.

The app uses an e-wallet system combined with traditional banking services. We’re going to cooperate with them on other projects in the upcoming years.

We haven’t found any critical bugs since releasing the apps, and both apps are highly rated in the app stores. We also have nearly 1.5 million app downloads, and we’ve received positive feedback from users.  Overall, we’re quite satisfied with Quality Testing Lab team’s performance, so we plan to collaborate with them on other projects.

They’re doing a great job in terms of project management. We use Jira as our project management tool and communicate mainly through Skype.

One of the main measurements for us is customer satisfaction, and our customers have been pretty happy with the quality of their work. We also consider our team satisfaction because we expect them to be flexible and change the way they’re working to match our processes — Quality Testing Lab has been able to do that. Furthermore, we’re counting on the team to treat our project as their own, and we’re expecting their QA and fintech knowledge to help us in our project.

They’re doing an excellent job managing our testing needs, and we’re satisfied with their outputs. In fact, there have been a couple of times that they've given us a valuable signal that a certain feature is not allowed to go to production because of the issues they've found.

Communication is very crucial to us, whether it’s handled during calls or conversations. We also place importance on their ability to communicate with teams working in different locations. In relation to those, Quality Testing Lab’s communication skills have been exceptional. We use Slack, Google Meet, and email to communicate, but as much as possible we try not to use phone calls.

We also like that we have a reliable project manager. Our company is in constant communication with their employees, and we always share our feedback with each other. On top of that, we don't have a problem with the budget or timelines because they’ve been great at meeting our needs there. They work in sprints, and they use Jira to track the project’s progress.

They have strong fintech domain knowledge, and they have excellent QA skills, making them the right fit for what we’re looking for.

Be open and specific about your needs.
