Joined in one of our PHP custom projects. Worked in 2-week sprints and managed to cover all the deliverables with high quality, while also adding automated tests in PHPUnit and writing detailed test cases in Xray.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

A high number of defects were identified and deliverables covered by Qteam had a good quality. The testing was performed in a timely manner and was very efficient. They also provided good insight into the testing process and due to their expertise, we could improve several aspects.

We have regular reports with all activities detailed which can be easily tracked and measured. The communication is top-notch, and the updates given in the daily scrum are explicit, clear and the team is always in the loop with risks in deliverables or deadlines.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Adapted very fast to the context of the project and became productive quickly. Managed to offer us a very good resource in a timely manner.

We collaborated and continue to collaborate with QTeam on training development and facilitation. For now they have helped us develop some of our courses on software testing and Python.

What were your goals for this project?

First of all to make sure that the courses we had were up to date and reflected the challenges and technologies professionals in the industry encounter. We also wanted to have a flexible approach in terms of meeting our clients needs for both training organization and variety of training subjects we offered.

How did you select QTeam Software Solutions?

We did a research of groups who catered to IT&C professionals (software testing, programming, Python etc). and went to some of their meetings to see people from the community who had presentations on various topics related to subjects which might be of interest. We saw the positive feedback on the presentation held by QTeam and we got in touch to discuss a potential collaboration.

Describe the project in detail.

We had some initial meetings to discuss how the collaboration will look like. And then, on a case by case basis, we approached QTeam whenever we had a client who was interested in trainings on topics which could be covered by them.

What was the team composition?

We always had our discussions with the main representative from QTeam who would put us in contact with one of their team members who would be right for a particular training request. Up until now we worked with a software consultant, Python programmer and a specialist on testing automation with Python.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The feedback from our clients was very good both from B2B and B2C customers. They liked the fact that the courses being developed / facilitated included plenty of exercises and case studies based on real world challenges.

The workflow was very good. Communication between us and QTeam was always fast and on point.

Software development and QA to transition legacy platform from PHP/Angular/Rackspace hosted application to Python/React/AWS. QTeam provided collaborative resources on both fronts and then helped managed and mature the new application as we scaled to enterprise.

What were your goals for this project?

Stability, scalability, and extensibility while reducing infrastructure costs leveraging AWS.

QTeam’s founders had worked with our CTO Adviser in previous engagements.

Provided Director level and on down software development along with the equivalent on the QA side. Python, React JS, automated QA and AWS expertise.

What was the team composition?

At the height of the project we had 10-12 QTeam members working on the project between software development and QA.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

QTeam was an outstanding collaborator both in communication, planning and execution. QTeam came in with a partner mentality and not simply a vendor. They helped transition the application and institutional knowledge to our US-based development and QA teams, and still check in today to make sure everything is going well.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Product management was run out of the US collaborating with QTeam. It worked very well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

QTeam had a vested interest in the project, in earnest, which assured us we got a true partner and not a vendor-based operation that was simply focused on billable hours. We were never once surprised with overages or scope creep that was not discussed, jointly, well in advance.

QTeam was always interested in critical feedback in order to improve and get better.

I’m the CTO of a platform that allows organizations to interact with their community of advocates in order to tell stories through photography and video content.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with QTeam Software Solutions?

We first engaged with them for additional automated testings and QA support. Because they’ve really proven themselves, we’ve contracted them to help out on a machine learning proof of concept.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we explained our need to augment our QA team. After they identified a few candidates for the project, we interviewed and selected one. At this point, he’s been on our team for about a year and a half now. 

Recently, we were looking to do a proof of concept for image recognition and object detection. We reached out to them again to see if he had any contacts that could leverage training models around image detection.

He was able to identify a few options, and we chose one for the project after holding remote interviews. We collaborated with that candidate for three months on a proof of concept. After this project, we also connected with this developer again to support a few different digital asset providers and direct API integration. He’s knocked several of those out. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with one full-time QA engineer for about a year and a half. Additionally, we worked with an engineer on our proof of concept and integrations within our Java platform.

How did you come to work with QTeam Software Solutions?

I worked with the founder of their team while at another company. At that time, he was in charge of QA testing at scale. We kept in touch over the years, so I knew that he had since launched his own consulting practice. I reached out to him to augment our QA team, and there was an opportunity for us to work together.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $7,000 each month on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

The initial project started in August 2018, and our work is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The resources they provided us have either met or exceeded our expectations over the course of our relationship. One of our metrics is the amount of coverage that our automated web tests provide. We also track the average time it takes to QA products.

Prior to adding their resource, it took us about two weeks to QA a significant product release. We’ve cut that to under a week. Our automated coverage also grew from 0% to 80% for all of our core flows within our web-based product.  

How did QTeam Software Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

The QA engineer fully participates in alignment with our existing agile process. Our QA manager communicates with him every day as he operates off of our Scrum board. He accepts tickets, handles QA overnight, documents his work, and handles any issues that pop up. That work, because of our timezone difference, is always ready for us the next morning for our daily standup. In some ways, this is a highly productive method of testing. 

For the developer, we’ve been able to be more hands-off with his work. Because he was creating a proof of concept, he was flying solo with regular input from me and a senior engineer. We did demos on his work for review on a weekly basis. He built his own interface that allowed us to view the effectiveness of the training models he was running our assets through.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team is curious and thorough in their work, which has allowed them to push the boundaries of what we do. Despite being from a different country and culture, they’ve demonstrated great empathy for customer experience. They understand what needs to be done to make our UX as productive and positive as possible. We’re also able to trust in their ability to deliver quality.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything. Even as internal employees, they would be considered high-performers. We’d hire them full time if we could. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that your team is comfortable with written communication and constructing well-documented requirements. They’re capable of reading between the lines a bit, but it’s helpful to be as clear as possible, especially in our agile process. Embrace the idea of test automation, because then you’ll be able to fully take advantage of what they have to offer.

Over 100 issues found in a very short period, less than 1 month, and at the same time great coverage in terms of tested number of stories and very detail and useful reporting. Excellent communication skills.

We had daily scrum meetings, work on Jira and Confluence. Communication and syncs via Teams and email.

Their ability to have an extremely fast ramp up to the project was impressive. They were productive in no time.
