Professional Interpreters of Erie

Professional Interpreters of Erie was founded in 2008 by the current CEO and Chief Interpreter, Ingrid L. Vega. Ms. Vega has over ten years of experience in the medical and court interpreting fields. Ms. Vega is a courtroom Interpreter through the Pennsylvania Interpreter Certification Program and The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters. She has attended several workshops on interpreting, including the Pennsylvania Interpreter Certification Program and the International Institute of Erie (IIE) Translator and Interpreter Training Program.  Ms. Vega also maintains active memberships with the International Medical Interpreter Association (IMIA) and the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters (NAJIT). 

In just a few years, the agency has grown to service over thirty-four (34) Languages with over 100 Interpreters and office staff. Proud to service a diverse client base of approximately two-thousand and growing.

Our agency strives to ensure equal access to healthcare and community resources for limited English proficiency (LEP) communities in the Erie area by providing high-quality language interpretation and translation services, by promoting interpreter professionalism and standards of practice, and by educating the community on overcoming language barriers.

Our agency offers professional interpreters who undergo rigorous virtual and practical training to ensure the highest quality of service. Interpreters are required to complete a mandatory classroom-based training founded in the Interpreter Standards of Practice as defined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare.  Interpreters are trained on topics such as interpretation modalities, patient confidentiality and HIPAA, professionalism, cultural awareness, and medical terminology, among others.
