BACKGROUND

We are a small software company that offers payroll and accounting software to small business clients in the U.S. I helped manage the project with Pole Position Marketing.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

We just wanted help with PPC [pay-per-click] and SEO [search engine optimization] consulting. We have people in-house with some knowledge, but we wanted to increase our capabilities and knowledge with a consulting engagement.

We didn't want to sign a long-term ongoing monthly contract with a SEO firm. We were looking to be trained so that we could run the campaigns on our own and give direction to our developers.

SOLUTION

Pole Position Marketing is local to us and their CEO has a great reputation in the industry, so we hired them in 2012. They came to our offices and trained us on PPC campaign management, how to organize the different campaigns and did a website audit.

They helped us organize the architecture of our website better to optimize it for organic search. They re-organized our URL structure. They also offer content marketing services, but we prefer to write our own Web content since we know the products very well.

We finished the engagement in 2013. We still have some consulting hours left on the contract, but the vast majority of the engagement has concluded.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

I am very happy with the results of the engagement and the team at Pole Position Marketing. They gave some great strategic advice that has helped grow our online sales and traffic. We were stuck at a certain level and Pole Position helped us get out of the rut.

I work for Batterystuff.com. We are a small shop based in Oregon that sells batteries and other related products. We get more than 99 percent of our revenue through online sales. The online marketplace for our goods is extremely competitive so we need to stand out on Google.

More than 10 years ago, we saw the potential for our business to grow to new levels through online sales. Obviously, the industry was very different back then. Our store is located in a small town, so we cannot rely on the local market to sustain our business. We needed to focus on paid search and also get help with organic search and email marketing as well.

We chose Pole Position Marketing as our online marketing vendor more than a decade ago. I wasn't here for that decision, so I cannot describe the details of their selection.

They have worked on PPC [pay-per-click] mostly through the years with a small amount of organic SEO [search engine optimization] management as well. We are just starting to get their help with email marketing.

I really like their team because they have subject matter experts in every digital marketing area and have a deep team. I can go to a specific SEO expert when I have questions about that area and a different person around PPC. I like working with them and am pleased with their customer service.
