When we worked together, I was an engineering manager at a residential thermostat company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Performix?

We had an urgent need to build out an Android mobile app to remotely control thermostats.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built the Android version from scratch, based on an IoT app. It was a remote-control app that allowed users to modify temperature and humidity settings and to remotely manage their houses. Performix was initially contracted to build out the Android version, but they ultimately took over the maintenance of both versions of the app.

What is the team composition?

We had one main point of contact, and we worked with a team of about five.

How did you come to work with Performix?

After an RFQ process, they offered a reasonable quote. We were impressed by their responsiveness, and we decided to hire them.

How much have you invested with them?

Over the course of about two years, we spent around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Their engagement for this particular project ran from about September 2010 through the end of 2012.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've had several million downloads, and the app is rated at about 4.5 in the app stores. Performix implemented a lot of the content as specified by our team, but the quality of their work has given the app its longevity.

How did Performix perform from a project management standpoint?

We used an agile methodology, and they were responsive whenever we needed things done. It was helpful to have a local company, and we could meet face to face to map out the work.

What did you find most impressive about them?

If we ever needed a new skillset, they did their best to bring those resources on board. They became more than a vendor, and our collaboration felt like a real partnership.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We worked together several years ago, but I had a positive experience and can't think of anything they should have improved.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure they understand your perspective and your goals. Respond to what they need, especially if the project doesn't have clear written requirements. That will save time and effort.
