Web team establishment for a Corporate web app
Client (service, industry) Boardmaps, Corporate decision making platform
Web team staffing and extension it from 1 person to 4 people within a year.
A cross-platform app for managing top executive meetings in the corporate, government, education, and nonprofit segments.
Challenge (pain)
The client approached us when they needed an experienced Senior React engineer to rebuild their current web part on the new stack. For 3 months they were trying to find such a talent on their own but without success.
Process/Approach/Solution (what we did, how and why)
We offered to them several clients from our internal talent pool and they chose 1 person with well rounded experience in React but also in other programming languages. It took us a week to handle the client-side interviews and to sign the contracts.
After several months as the product grew, the client needed several more Frontend engineers, so the team was extended with 1 more Senior React developer and 2 Middle React engineers. The one engineer who also has React Native skills is now involved in Mobile app development.
Team/Technologies (who did it and what they used)
2 Senior Frontend Engineers and 2 Middle Frontend engineers.
They are using React, TypeScript, Immutable.js, chart,js, i18Next, Effector, HTML5/SASS, Long-Polling, Web sockets, Jest.
Outcome/Current state (what happens now)
The product was successfully acquired by a bigger company and the team continues working and bringing value within the new organisation, it’s 100% integrated to the workflow, tools, policies. The client continues growing and we’re currently working on staffing several more positions for them.

Cross-platform mobile team creation for IoT app
Client (service, industry) Ola, IoT, Smart security cameras.
Smart web camera with voice detection, natural language processing, and smart notification system. The camera is able to recognize family member's voices, special sounds, keywords, and more.
Challenge (pain)
First milestone was to create a cross platform mobile app for iOS and Android and connect it with a hardware part. The challenge was to meet the tight deadlines and to publish apps on time.
Second milestone was to enable high performance standards when the solution went to the mass market and the team needed to scale and extend the system for highload.
Then the client approached us to find a person for an NLP research (voice and sounds recognition) so we found and provided an experienced Data Scientist (PhD, graduated and located in London) who handled this challenge.
Another issue was when the product faced a huge difficulty with video playing and we needed to find an expert in native iOS library to fix this, which we successfully done within a week.
Process/Approach/Solution (what we did, how and why)
We started from staffing a Technical Team Lead, who created the architecture and worked out the technological stack. Then we gradually extended the team with 3 more React Native/React engineers. All of them were selected and approved by the Team Leader so we managed to create a squad that worked together super efficiently and the client achieved all the milestones they planned. The part of the team is still working here (more than 5 years already).
Team/Technologies (who did it and what they used)
Mobile/Frontend Team Leader and the team of 4 Middle level React/React Native engineers. They used: React Native, React.js, Meteor, Node.js, Mongo DB, jQuery, Digital Ocean, Encryption
Outcome/Current state (what happens now)
The project is ongoing, the team is working on new features and the client is preparing for the next investment round.

Staff Augmentation for Literally Media
Client (service, industry) Literally Media
The company offers the biggest portfolio of digital comedy and culture brands, offering enduring content loved by 40 million people worldwide.
Challenge (pain)
We were supposed to provide the team for redesign of the well-known media entertainment platform in the US. Client required to hire several Ruby Fullstack engineers and a QA engineer to handle the redesign. Additional to the scarcity of available Ryby full-stacks on the market we needed to meet a really modest budget.
Process/Approach/Solution (what we did, how and why)
We managed to provide several candidates within a week, the client chose one to hire and to start with. After a month another Full-stack was added + an experienced QA engineer for a part-time basis.
Key factor of success was in identifying the region to hire with the lowest price which we managed to achieve because of the deep candidate market knowledge.
They team worked directly under the US based management.
Team/Technologies (who did it and what they used)
2 Full stack Ruby engineers, 1 Lead QA engineer for part-time
Technical stack: Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, jQuery, React, CSS, XML, Bootstrap, MySQL, PostgreSQL
Outcome/Current state (what happens now)
The redesign project was finished within a year and the team was disbanded, currently the client supports the project with their internal capacities.

Rare-breed Mobile devs for Photo Startup in Israel
Client (service, industry) GuruShots
The best Photography Game in the World available on mobile. The company is developing a social network for photographers with educational and learning challenges (gaming part), it’s used in 120+ countries with millions of downloads in Stores.
Challenge (pain)
At the moment they approached us they were working only in Israel in the office, so the idea of offshore hiring was a greenfield project for them. They didn’t want to lower the technical standards and had high requirements for the new remote mates.
After several months of searching for Mobile engineers in Israel they wanted for a quicker and more efficient way to engage new talents.
Process/Approach/Solution (what we did, how and why)
We were requested to provide Senior iOS and Senior Android developers to help them implement new features and align the development speed (at that time features for iOS app were published much quicker than for Android). So within a month they had their engineers onboard.
After several months we also provided a Senior Angular engineer to help them support their current old versioned Angular.js system and transit it smoothly to Angular 2+ stack.
Team/Technologies (who did it and what they used)
Senior iOS engineer, Senior Android engineer, Senior Angular engineer.
Outcome/Current state (what happens now)
The team is working for more than 2 years completely under the client management. The product was profitably acquired and raised new funds for further growth, we are happy that the client is willing to hire with us their next Engineering roles.

For what projects/services did your company hire PerceptionBox, and what were your goals?
There was a legacy solution which needed redesign and couple new functionalities to meet better user needs and improve overall performance. We had backend covered with own resources and looked for assistance with frontend part. As a result we started cooperation with PerceptionBox to update React solution.

HR Services for Security As A Service Solutions Company
“They demonstrated a sincere desire to satisfy our needs.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the former engineering/product manager for Lacero, a security as a service solutions company.
What challenge were you trying to address with PerceptionBox?
We required PerceptionBox’s HR services. Before we started working with them, we had some presence in the nearshore space, but we knew that we didn’t have enough capacity to scale up our team. Thus, we started looking for a service provider that could help us with that.
What was the scope of their involvement?
PerceptionBox provided us with HR and administration services. Initially, we provided them with the job descriptions. Then, they started finding candidates for us, and we chose the ones we thought would be the best fit for our company.
Throughout this process, PerceptionBox managed all the conversations and engagement with the candidates while they were doing test assignments. Through these assignments, we wanted to ensure that the candidate’s skills matched the information in their resumes.
Additionally, PerceptionBox helped us with all the meeting arrangements to interview the candidates and managed the relationship with them on our behalf. Their team also handled all the documentation involved so that we didn’t have to do it ourselves. We simply provided them with the information they needed, and they handled all the paperwork, ensuring that our interests were protected and that the documents were aligned with local regulations.
For some of the resources we hired, PerceptionBox also provided an office location in a city where we had the most presence, and they provided some of those resources with the equipment needed. Moreover, they helped us with their payroll. For resource management, they used BambooHR, but we weren’t onboarded into that tool.
What is the team composition?
Through PerceptionBox, we hired a QA engineer, a couple of backend engineers, a full stack engineer, and a blockchain engineer. They also helped us scale our team up when needed. For a short period of about 3–4 months, we worked with 10 people from PerceptionBox in total.
How did you come to work with PerceptionBox?
Most of the service providers have offices in Kyiv, Ukraine. Although we already had some presence there, we didn’t want to work with a company based in the capital because the market is very competitive there. Thus, we started looking for smaller companies that weren’t based in the capital.
We already knew about PerceptionBox before we started working together. Throughout this process, we contacted them and six other companies to tell them what we were looking for. When we talked with PerceptionBox, they didn’t try to impose their way of working, which made them stand out.
They were able to accommodate our needs and be flexible about our way of working. Accommodating our needs wasn’t a problem for PerceptionBox, as opposed to their competitors. We knew our approach was unconventional, but they were willing to work with us.
How much have you invested in them?
We spent over $380,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working with them in July 2019, and I believe the engagement ended in May 2022 due to drastic changes in the nature of the business. However, I had already left the company.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Thanks to PerceptionBox, we were able to hire all the resources we were interested in within the timeframes we requested. As a result, we were able to scale up our team almost immediately whenever needed.
Moreover, the resources we hired through PerceptionBox were of exceptional quality, and they worked as if they were our own employees. We only had issues with one of their resources, who left us. Still, their other resources worked with us for a couple of years, which allowed us to save a lot of money by not hiring someone internally.
How did PerceptionBox perform from a project management standpoint?
PerceptionBox was very responsive, and they delivered assets ahead of time. We used Trello and Jira for project management, and we communicated via Zoom and WhatsApp. Additionally, we met with them a couple of times.
What did you find most impressive about them?
PerceptionBox’s flexibility regarding our working relationship was outstanding; they demonstrated a sincere desire to satisfy our needs.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t have any constructive feedback for them. They did a really good job, and I was a happy customer; everything was great.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be open about what you want because you might be surprised by how easily they can deliver on that.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the senior project manager at Unicsoft, a software development company. We mainly outsource and work with American and European customers. I manage software development projects in blockchain and e-commerce.
What challenge were you trying to address with PerceptionBox?
We hired PerceptionBox to provide web and mobile app development services for our clients.
What was the scope of their engagement?
We’ve created several big solutions with PerceptionBox. For example, one was a geographical platform for mines; the customer was from the UK. We also created an AI solution for advertising and cryptocurrencies. The mines project was a web application, while the cryptocurrency one was a mobile app based on React Native. Both of them are available for Android and iOS.
In one case, the customer provided wireframes, and we prepared the design. In other projects, we prepare the wireframes together with the functional requirements and specifications. PerceptionBox works internally, so the project manager interacts with the customer only for demonstration purposes when development is involved. The architects and analysts are in direct contact with customers.
What is the team composition?
The two projects have involved about seven people: six developers and one architect.
How did you come to work with PerceptionBox?
I don’t know all the details; we met them, and their business was in the area. It could be the personal touch since they’re from the same city.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent more than $1 million on our projects.
What is the status of the engagement?
Our partnership started in September 2016, and we’re still engaged with them.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve recorded a high number of users for our applications. Also, the number of downloads has significantly risen. On the other hand, we’ve experienced bugs and crashes on our web app, but they’ve quickly dealt with the issues. In general, we have a pretty standard process in our company.
Moreover, we have great reviews and feedback from our clients that the software is good. Clients are happy with the solutions, and our audience is growing — those are some of the signs that the quality is good and the product works.
How did PerceptionBox perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve always been on time with the tasks assigned to them. In our case, management has been on our side, and we collaborate with them from a technical point of view. Nonetheless, they’re very responsive. Whenever we have questions or new demands for resources, they answer and help us promptly.
We use Redmire, Jira, and Trello as project management tools.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The main impressive thing is their selection process because they try to select senior developers.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they're excellent. Their process is stable and covers different cases; we don’t have complaints about them.
Any advice for potential customers?
Address as many details as possible and allocate the best team.
