We hired Panorama Consulting Group to help us identify the best ERP system and other software systems for our business.

What was the scope of their involvement?
First, we prepared an RFP packet to send out to the market, tell our story, and talk through our project's goals and objectives. Then, Panorama Consulting Group, based on our requirements, suggested some firms to approach so that we could get the right people involved in the review process.

Panorama Consulting Group managed the entire RFP process, including answering all the responses and questions. Then, they put together a series of recommendations for us to consider moving forward, including a readiness assessment, which spoke to the overall readiness of our organization to proceed with that type of project.

We ended up looking at and selecting three different types of systems.

We had pretty heavy contact with four teammates from Panorama Consulting Group.

How did you come to work with Panorama Consulting Group?
We had a team of people who helped us identify the right partner. Each of them did some research on different firms that would be a good fit to work with us to create this RFP. Different searches and evaluations led us to Panorama Consulting Group.

Their team was very agnostic in their approach, which made us choose them. They had recommended a wide variety of systems over the past couple of years, so they weren't locked into any particular set of systems. Moreover, they were a great cultural fit for us. They had a similar set of values and ethics to our team and our business.

What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together on this project from February 2023–February 2024.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Choosing the three systems we chose came down to our requirements and how these systems fit those requirements. Panorama Consulting Group did a very nice job of interpreting answers and highlighting which ones we needed to examine further to gain some clarity.

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?
Panorama Consulting Group spent a lot of time on-site, so we communicated either in person or via email. Although we ended up going over budget, that was because we expanded our scope. Overall, they did a really good job on the project management side, so we were very happy with that. As for project management tools, we simply used Excel.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Steve and Richard (Directors of Client Services) were both great.

What did you find most impressive about them?
Panorama Consulting Group did a very good job listening and understanding our business, which a lot of people in this space don't usually do. Thanks to that, they helped us define the right requirements and understand the responses we got.

Are there any areas they could improve?
Panorama Consulting Group could have articulated the financial benefits of the proposal a bit better. We did an assessment of the benefits, but it was at a very high level and less detailed than it could have been.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Get them exposed to as many members of your team as possible so that they get the true story. Moreover, make sure that you're pushing them on recommendations.

I’m the VP of product management at AudioQuest. We’re a manufacturer and marketer of high-end audio and video cables. We also make a range of electronic products, including power conditioners and DAC devices for the audiophile market.

What challenge were you trying to address with Panorama Consulting Group?

We had an old ERP system that we needed to update. We needed to define our requirements and find a suitable vendor.

In particular, we were looking for a cloud-based system that could handle multiple product variations. Due to our global operations, we also wanted a system with excellent multi-language and multicurrency capabilities. Finally, we were looking for a system that would be easy to implement and maintain.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Panorama Consulting Group did ERP requirements and vendor selection consulting. First, they helped us define our requirements. With their knowledge of the ERP marketplace, Panorama Consulting Group identified three possible vendors for us to consider. Then, they arranged and managed demonstrations by those three vendors to allow us to hone in and find the vendor in particular that we felt comfortable with, could meet our needs, and was scalable for future growth.

Using our old ERP system, they discovered that our business processes were outdated. They helped us identify better processes and define our business flow to streamline it and get it in line with the capabilities of existing ERP providers. Panorama Consulting Group also helped us articulate our requirements to vendors, which was important to maximize our time and productivity as we analyzed and reviewed different vendors.

We found them through a Google search. Then, we read some of their reviews and talked to some existing clients.

How much have you invested with them?

We initially budgeted about $90,000, but Panorama Consulting Group came in at $75,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from June 2021–June 2022. Since then, we’ve engaged them for further services for pre-implementation, data cleaning, and data creation to make the system more productive.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Panorama Consulting Group was able to select a vendor for our future ERP system, which was the only metric we had for them. Additionally, we asked them to put forward a roadmap for the future system, and the deliverable was successfully provided to us.

Overall, their work was outstanding. Panorama Consulting Group worked well with the different teams we had in place, including US-based and internationally-based teams. They did a great job understanding our current frustrations to help us move towards a much-improved state.

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They did a great job meeting deadlines. Regarding communication, Panorama Consulting Group was outstanding. We knew when and how they’d communicate with us. If they felt they needed to bring in other resources or expertise, they did so without hesitation and told us exactly what they were doing and why, which was very helpful.

We primarily communicated through email, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understood where we were and where we wanted to get to. Sometimes companies can say what the client should look like, but they don’t really know how to get them there. However, Panorama Consulting Group knew how to make the progression to where we wanted to be.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Our team caused many issues, so we can’t fault them for our lack of capabilities. In particular, we struggled to determine the roadmap for the future stages, but Panorama Consulting Group kept us on track and painted a good picture in the end.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They have a much deeper resource pool than what we might’ve been exposed to. Don’t be quick to dismiss Panorama Consulting Group if you feel they’re too light. They have a lot of expertise; you just need to dig for it a bit.

We had a confidential arbitration dispute regarding the implementation of SAP Hybris at our client’s site. We brought Panorama Consulting Group to serve as our retained expert for the arbitration.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They assisted us with the analysis of the documentation produced in discovery related to the attempted implementation of SAP Hybris in our client’s system. They provided us with support so we could better understand what was going on from a technical perspective and identify key issues. 

They provided a written report of the technical issues they found. One of their experts provided testimony at our arbitration.

I worked with Steve (Senior Project Manager) and his two assistants. Bill (Director of Expert Services) also worked with us in a management aspect.

We found them early on in the case through research online. We spoke with Bill initially, and he connected us with Steve. We felt confident that their team could provide the right expertise needed for this arbitration.

We started working together in August 2019, and the arbitration concluded in September 2020.

We were happy with their work. They helped us speak knowledgeably when we were presenting our case. We felt well prepared because of their assistance.

Overall, they performed well. We encountered a few issues with efficiency, but when we brought it up, they were receptive and worked to resolve those issues. 

We mostly communicated via phone and email.

They were very helpful. I would use them again in the future.

They could work on the efficiency of their services and budgeting. However, I understand it can be difficult to predict how involved a project will be.

Engage with them early on and keep up constant communication. Define your deliverables clearly and share your goals. Keep them abreast of any changes.

We needed a company that could help us select a new ERP.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Panorama Consulting Group was involved in the selection phase as we researched ERP systems. It was a year-long process that involved understanding our business requirements and comparing them to the available solutions. Ultimately, they provided a recommendation and helped with some of our pre-implementation planning.

What is the team composition? 

We worked with 3–5 people. They were mostly consultants, but we did work with a director who handled the higher-level strategy. Others, helped with gathering requirements, recommending selections, then negotiating with vendors on pricing.

I searched online for consulting companies that specialized in ERP implementation and found Panorama Consulting Group. They seemed like one of the more unbiased firms we saw, so I was drawn to that.

Then, I attended an ERP selection boot camp in Chicago that they hosted and learned about their process. They went over what we needed to know and the steps that we should take to choose an ERP, which made me confident that they knew what they were doing.

It was about $300,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The selection process lasted from June 2017–July 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I came into the project not knowing what the true selection process would be, so it was a little arduous and invasive from my perspective but certainly needed.

They guided us throughout the requirements gathering, held multiple discussions to address any issues, and supported with the documentation. The team also did a great job of dealing with the vendors directly, which meant we didn’t have to organize the demos ourselves.

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well overall. We did have a few issues with consultant turnover throughout the engagement, so there was a bit of information rehashing. However, at the end of the day, it was a successful project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The selection that they recommended was ultimately the one that I preferred. We’re now going through the implementation process with our ERP provider.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, nothing that really comes to the top of my mind.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You need your management to buy into the project and to participate throughout the process. That was one of the things that we struggled with, but it would’ve helped move the process along.

I’m the CFO and project manager for a faith-based organization. Our organization was founded to send food to persecuted Christians in Romania in the 1980s. Through a series of events ,our work expanded to provide humanitarian aid other countries. We also get involved in domestic disasters such are hurricanes and tornados. We help cleanup and rebuild low-income communities. We also have a for-profit subsidiary that that sells inspirational books.

What challenge were you trying to address with Panorama Consulting Group?

We’ve been using Dynamic SL for about 20 years, and were looking to expand our dynamics and integrate third-party software for warehousing and logistics. We’re also hoping to add some usability. As we started looking into the project, our value-added reseller provided a roadmap from Microsoft that showed where Dynamic SL is going to go. He advised us not to put our money into it. Instead, we started to hunt for another product. We hired Panorama Consulting Group to help us determine what software would be best for us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They reviewed our needs and came back to us with a shortlist of three products.  We inquired about two other software, and they did some research on that. They brought a few other partners to integrate their software and they went through demos for each provider.

We ended up using a DonorDirect CRM for donor management and integrated it with Unit4 for our humanitarian software, and Helm for logistics. We’re currently working on implementing payroll in Unit4.

In the beginning, we worked with Eric (CEO, Managing Partner & Founder). Then we worked with Geoff (Project Manager), Laura (Director of Business Development), Ed (Manager), and Chris (Manager of Software Selection), then they brought on Craig (Manager).

How did you come to work with Panorama Consulting Group?

We found them online. We also engaged with another company, but we liked Panorama Consulting Group’s approach better. They seemed to be leading the industry.

We’ve spent between $200,000–$1 million. We also pay the vendors through Panorama Consulting Group.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in September 2017 and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We implemented the solution there in our for-profit subsidiary, but we haven’t implemented the solution in the nonprofit. I do not think this project would have been successful without Panorama Consulting Group.  

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve leaned heavily on them because this is a new experience for me. On a scale of 1–10, I would give them an 8.5. They’ve done well. They’re able to make things work even if the situation isn’t ideal. We communicate by email and phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by their ability to get things done. They pushed through the project to ensure we got the right solution.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could possibly be a little more open about where they were in the project. They may have presented a rosier view of what a new software can do. The truth is, there is no perfect fit when it comes to software, and there were a few things we wanted to accomplish that we didn’t meet.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They should try to do some background research into what software might meet their needs.  But let Panorama Consulting Group round it out and come up with the solution.

I’m the IT director of a distribution company that supplies to jails and prisons.

What challenge were you trying to address with Panorama Consulting Group?

There are hundreds of ERP solutions on the market, so we wanted someone to guide us through the selection process with no pre-existing affiliations or loyalties.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, they got to know our business by mapping our various processes. Quickly, they come to the conclusion that we weren’t ready to integrate a new ERP solution yet. From there, we paused our collaboration to tighten up our business processes. 

We restarted our engagement in 2019, and they assisted us by finalizing our business process maps and developing an RFP. Ultimately, they narrowed our search down to three vendors, which lead to us selecting and negotiating a contract with NetSuite. Additionally, they helped us negotiate a 33% discount on their services.

What is the team composition?

We were assigned an account manager and a sponsor. They brought in other resources as needed to support us through the entire effort.  

How did you come to work with Panorama Consulting Group?

In 2017, I began combing the internet for best-fit selection partners. We interviewed ten companies that met our requirements but eventually settled on their team.

They were the only team that met with us in person and also the only candidate that offered to let us know if we weren’t ready for selection at that time. They really presented themselves as a value add partner, and that’s something that we needed to hear.

We spent about $300,000 in total. Some of the spend was for travel, but the vast majority was hours booked and value received as a result.

Our engagement with Panorama began in January of 2018 and completed in August of 2019.

Their honesty, transparency, and ability to connect their consultants with clients that share the same values and culture.

There’s always room for improvement, but we’re very satisfied with their work. At times, they were a little rigid in their processes, implementing change management prior to there being a need for it.

Lean into areas where they can provide exceptional value. That will allow you to maximize your resources while mapping their offerings to your culture.

I’m the enterprise resource planning (ERP) project manager on the business development team at a wood pulp manufacturer. We make both soft- and hardwood pulp, as well as methanol and exported power.

What challenge were you trying to address with Panorama Consulting Group?

We needed to replace our aged ERP system that dated back almost 30 years to the beginning of the company.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’re now in our second contract with Panorama. 2019 was the discovery phase, so from May until the fall of that year, they helped us gather requirements, commit to a shortlist of vendors, and form a phased implementation plan for our new ERP. The plan ran from that point in 2019 until the end of 2023 for the end of the implementation. Our board of directors approved it and we moved into the selection phase. After we choose the product, we’ll make a series of business process changes to make implementation easier.

Panorama is instrumental in the selection phase. They’re working very closely with us by providing guidance on what pre-implementation changes we should make. We plan on negotiating a contract with the vendor of our choice by the end of 2020, as well as possessing a detailed plan for implementation in 2021. 2022 will feature an advanced human capital management implementation phase, and 2023 will focus on enterprise asset management if we decide we want to change our software in that area. We have no reservations about including Panorama in those upcoming phases.

Initially, we were working with Laura (Director of Business Development) as their new client representative. We’re still working with her, and she did a great job being their first contact with us as a customer. We’ve also worked closely with Richard (Director Client Services), who’s been our project manager through both phases. We’ve also had consistency on our team through Christi (Change Management Manager) who works primarily with selection but was available last year to help us with the discovery phase as well. There’s even been a consistent business analyst. Everyone on their team has impressed us to this point.

How did you come to work with Panorama Consulting Group?

Learning from past experience, we decided to do an RFP process at the beginning of this project to find a partner to assist us. There were five total companies under consideration and Panorama was by far the most qualified. They stood out for a few reasons including their status as a software vendor agnostic; they’ll help us choose whatever vendor we want. They were also willing to help with all phases of the project, whereas a lot of companies will only assist in the discovery and selection phase but not the implementation phase. Their depth of knowledge and experience also helped us select them.

When we started to search online, they were ranked highly because of the number of white papers and articles they share. They seemed like a leader in the ERP field. Their online presence was impressive, as was their immediate response to us reaching out to them. The enthusiasm was immediate.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

All of the feedback we’ve received from internal stakeholders — from our CEO down to the ERP subject-matter experts — has been positive. There’s a real trust in Panorama to support us. As we’ve been doing risk assessments, we’re noticing a lot of our risks have been and are mitigated by having a consultant like Panorama.

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management has worked well; they’re making things happen in some less-than-ideal circumstances. As a project manager, the fact that we’re on time and schedule despite the pandemic circumstances speaks for itself.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One of the things we really appreciate is that we’ve had the opportunity to establish a good, collaborative relationship with the people at Panorama because of the consistency of their team. It’s come to feel like a partnership; there’s trust and an open ability to converse that gives us access to their expertise. They don’t just tell us what to do, they work with us to learn and build our capacities.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have nothing negative to say, but the one area we haven’t been able to fully leverage yet (which they offer) is their change management. Primarily it’s because of the distance of the company, us being where we are, and the travel restrictions in place right now. From an ERP support and technical knowledge standpoint, they’ve been excellent, though.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Ask the right questions and build the relationships as you would with any partner. It hasn’t been difficult for us, and Panorama’s structure and communication methods are pretty effective.

I’m the CIO for a protein/beef company. We harvest several thousand animals a day and turn them into various primal cuts, ground beef, as well as sell trim for other food manufacturers across the country.

We wanted to select a new ERP system to replace our old and highly customized system that had been in place for 23 years.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us with some baseline requirement gathering and process mapping. Then, we used those to drive an RFI and RFP process. We also worked with them through demo and contract negotiations with our new ERP provider. We’re currently executing on another scope of work that has them helping with change management and project auditing, health checking along the way as we implement the new system.

What is the team composition?

We had Steve (Senior Project Manager) as the project manager, Darlene (Senior Consultant) as a consultant, Chris as one of the lead process manufacturing experts, and Richard (Director of Client Services) as a navigator to help us through.

They signed on before I started with the company but I know they were searching for someone independent to help with the selection that wasn’t already a partner with an established software. We didn’t want someone who sold software or did direct implementation experiences.

We’ve been working together since June 2017. The first scope of work ended in January 2019 and we’re working on the second scope now.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of the RFP process and selection process was very extensive. There was a lot of thought and deliberation put into it. We had a core team on individuals on our side that were helping with it, along with representatives from the business. It was a pretty deep dive, and everyone came out of it with the feeling that we were getting the best system and the most functionality.

We still believe it was the best fit for us one year into the implementation, which is when many people start to question their decision. We still believe they provide a very valuable service. We broke down the preconceived notions and got into the nuts and bolts of why we’re doing the selection we did.

On the change management piece, one of the things we’ve noticed is that we’ve shifted from our new ERP's change management resources to Panorama’s because we’ve been working with them for nearly three years. They have a strong understanding of our culture and people and have developed strong relationships with us.

How did Panorama Consulting Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very good communicators. Just last like we had a readout of our audit report and all the project sponsors were on the call, and Panorama communicated well to everyone from analysts and plant accountants all the way up to our leadership.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve been very impressed with their work. Had we tried to do this on our own it would have been far more difficult and probably wouldn’t have resulted in as good a selection as we ended up making.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not that comes to top of mind directly. The only thing they were going to do during out selection was directly engage in the contract negotiation, which I actually wound up taking on because I enjoyed it. They still helped us with certain aspects of the contract and helped us get a really good product.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Take your time to help them understand your business so they can identify the strengths each software vendor will provide you with. Everyone tends to go out and look at the big three or four, but that’s not always the right call for your organization, both culturally and functionally. Doing our requirement gathering with them was a key aspect of our engagement. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it.

We were using an older ERP product and needed guidance in selecting the right software for our business. We also took the opportunity to go through a business process reorganization where we looked at where we could adapt to improve our functionalities and meet best practices.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Panorama helped to facilitate a current state business process mapping exercise and a future state business process design for our organization. This was used to develop a set of functional requirements and demonstration scripts for ERP vendors.

Panorama has helped us to manage the vendors during the request for proposal process and served as facilitators while the vendors were on-site meeting our team. They are now assisting us with final vendor negotiations and implementation planning.

Before our engagement with Panorama, our business operated in departmental “silos.” Various managers were concerned more with their individual departmental outcomes, rather than the outcomes of the business as a whole. Panorama facilitated several workshops with our management team, which helped everyone to come together toward a common goal. Today everyone is much better organized and able to adapt to problems as they arise.

They’re extremely professional and knowledgeable. Communication is always clear.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really appreciate their professionalism. They came in without any preconceived notions and served as an unbiased third party. They weren’t afraid to say what needed to be said, and our team respected their expertise.

The initial demos from each vendor were 2 full days which I thought were too long. The initial demos could have been shorter with follow up a demo for any vendors that qualified.
