During Development, we got some enhancements and improvements too, that impact timeline and Deliverables, However we signed SLA for further services, maintenance and enhancements.

Project Manager was very professional and communicate weekly and if required two times in a week, He did Daily Scrum with team and make a weekly plan and finish tasks on time, also available whenever needed.

We had direct access and communication with the team who were very friendly and professional. Sometime available on weekend too when support needed. Understand the tasks and check all impacted areas and share all doubts and queries before start anything new.

MY only suggestion, document as much as possible, including/like, Enhancements of tasks, Bug lists, task distribution and time takes for each tasks, That help them to increase quality of work and track everything.

They didn’t complete the work the way we wanted. Instead, the previous team got stuck somewhere in the development phase and couldn’t continue the project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Owebest Technologies Pvt. Ltd. developed our cryptocurrency website from scratch. It includes a component where users can exchange coin with another. The SQL database they built stores all of the data and tracks how much of each cryptocurrency users have. Based on that information, they can make an exchange. Building this complex platform was a challenging task, but Owebest Technologies did it well and professionally.  

We’ve completed the project by this point, but we still have marketing to do before launching. Owebest Technologies Pvt. Ltd. finished the entire website and did the exchange. The team did such good work that I’ve awarded them two more projects. They created the design exactly how I wanted it. The first project is an e-commerce website, and the other one involves developing mobile applications.

We’re creating an online marketplace for people in the film industry to connect with more jobs. I’m the CEO and co-founder.

What challenge were you trying to address with Owebest Technologies?

We had the wireframing and design work done. We needed someone to build the backend based on those designs, including payments and the full scale of the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They are the only development firm that’s worked on this project, and it has grown in scope since we began working with them.

Initially, their task was to build a full-solution backend for the platform admin side, so we could update it on the frontend. There were two sides to the platform. One side is for users to sign up, update their information, and create a professional profile, like on LinkedIn. The other side was a production house where companies could find people, book them, and make payments.

As we did user testing and got feedback, we decided to incorporate a mobile app, which they’re working on now. They’re also developing APIs for the web-based platform to communicate with the mobile app. They’ve always done the full development sphere: from actual frontend coding through to the backend and database management.

The general features are messaging, bulk notifications, uploading credit card information, and integration to payment gateways. Users can withdraw funds to a bank account or via PayPal. We also have a chat feature for companies to communicate with users, cloud file storage for them to share files, as well as task lists and calendars. There are built-in notifications for booking requests, much like AirBnB.

We built in point systems for our search algorithm, with different weightings for events and various adjustments to people’s visibility. Users can refer friends and teams, as well as earn referrals. We included portfolio builders for users to upload images and videos, tag them, and be globally searchable. We also included searchable reviews of both users and production companies.

Our built-in invoice generation is linked with QR code scanning. There’s group chats as well. They did integrations with our Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, Elastic, and Google Vision. They’re also doing our Twilio integration for SMS.

What is the team dynamic?

I work with 2 people, Sam and Akash. Akash is the project manager for the web platform and the mobile app. Sam is the CEO, and I speak to him about the development of platform. I don’t know the exact size of the team building it out.

How did you come to work with Owebest Technologies?

We found them on Freelancer. We started with a very small project that we ended up not pursuing for internal reasons, but I began a relationship with Sam. We followed up with them when we were ready to begin this project.

We worked with 2 freelance developers in Cape Town initially, but they couldn’t handle the scope of the project. We looked at other contacts in South Africa, but their cost was ridiculous, and they wanted to cut a lot of our features. We were also in contact with an American company.

We chose Owebest because their proposal, in terms of timeline and web development process, was very good. They understood the scope of the project, and I had good communication with Sam. We needed to move pretty fast on the project.

We’ve spent $24,000 so far. The total project size is $40,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started conversations in October, but we didn’t move into production until November a year ago. We haven’t launched the website, and we’re still doing iterations in response to user feedback and testing. We’re now on our final web-based milestone, and we’ve almost finished design for the mobile app. We put a hold on the app until the website was 100% complete.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The platform worked well for our closed focus groups. Owebest has done the development side, but most of the feedback has been around the design aspects and user experience, because we haven’t taken the platform to market yet. The feedback in terms of how the platform works has been great.

We are fortunate to have experience in the industry, so we knew the market well enough to build exactly what our stakeholders want. We expect that to give us an advantage in taking the platform live.

How did Owebest Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

It’s definitely gotten a lot better as we have built the relationship with them.

I email Akash every day. He’s also available in Google Hangouts Mondays and Fridays to go over milestones, chat about the upcoming week, and review the previous week.

I would like more of a detailed breakdown from week to week, but I do get the information I need, so it works. They have been very flexible with our Agile methodology and our changing scope. They haven’t added more costs due to our changes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their flexibility, understanding, and working with our needs. They’ve been willing to take on additional requirements and grow the platform as we developed and deferred to the hows and whens of our changes. It obviously causes frustration for developers when significant changes are made to something that has been built out and tested. But they are very accommodating. That’s been the best part of our relationship.

Admittedly, we’re not creating new technology. Owebest uses existing technology in a great way—quickly and efficiently. While another development house could probably build what they’re building, they wouldn’t necessarily be as flexible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have a keen eye for design and user experience. I do all the design and interface work myself and pass it on to them. I wanted much more control over the design, because I don’t have full faith in their design work.

On the backend and technical side, they are phenomenal at completing everything we need. There were some communication errors in completely understanding what we were asking of them, but we were always able to rectify that very quickly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Get your concepts designed and wireframed perfectly first and make sure you lay out your dev specifications, task list, requirements, and features carefully. That will help with the language barrier. If possible, have a very specific look in mind and provide accurate design mockups. Sketch or Photoshop are good enough. Once they have that they’ll build out your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript perfectly.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our project involves an Android mobile application and web application. To be more specific, we requested Owebest Technologies build an admin portal website, a web portal for call center junior admins, an Android app for the towing service, and a consumer facing Android app for people that need to get towed.

The admin portal needed user controls, user vehicle management, call center management, tow truck fleet management, and insurance claims administrative management. The call center junior admin portal needed its own user controls, a CRM-like system for managing drivers’ vehicle information, and call center reporting.

The tow trucker app needed to have user profiles, it had to receive requests from the call center, initiate GPS functionality if a job is accepted, and incorporate a picture taking feature to record the scene and damage.

The end-user Android app involved user profiles, personal vehicle information management, tow request features, push notifications, emergency contact automation, GPS data sharing, and a similar photo taking feature.

How did you come to work with Owebest Technologies?

Initially, we posted our project description on Freelancer.com. There were over 60 applicants that showed their interest. However, we only shortlisted 10 applicants in which Owebest was one of them. We had done two rounds of interviews to all the applicants. After the first interview, we had already decided to reward Owebest with the project. Besides their reasonable charging rate, we actually saw their professionalism during the first interview with how they did their introduction to their company background and team experience. Most importantly, they wanted to understand what our project was about.

During the second interview, they gave us advice and suggestions on how to improve our system before the entire development started, especially in regards to user experience. This is how we chose them eventually.

Our entire business is online, and our website needed to be revamped. We also wanted help developing the iOS and Android app for our company. Owebest is actually the fifth or sixth developer that have worked on the website. We were very frustrated with all of the previous developers from domestic or offshore companies. One of the challenges we faced with other firms from India was that they couldn’t communicate very clearly. One firm we worked with didn’t even know what a wedding registry was.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our website is a WordPress site and didn’t have a lot of functionality. There was very little mobile responsiveness, and the design was outdated. Initially, we worked with a designer outside of Owebest to freshen up the design. It now has a much friendlier design and is more efficient. We have a lot of administrative dashboards that we have to create. Aside from a dashboard for the users and another one for the suppliers, there’s also a charity component. Owebest developed all of that functionality. The apps are fully integrated so that a couple can create a registry on either the app or the website, and they can find all the information on either. They can also exchange activities and add money to their e-wallet. After they redeem one of these experiences, there’s the capability to load pictures or video. They can send thank-yous to whoever gave them the gift, so there are a lot of functionalities within the app. Owebest has also helped us with SEO [search engine optimization]. We’re trying to push as much development their way as we can.

We found them on Freelancer.com. I own another company that found Owebest on Freelancer. My brother was managing them at the time, and he let me know they were very responsive and able to get work done quickly. Owebest immediately learned our business and understood the business problems. When they started working with us, 22 couples had signed up on our wedding registry. In February 2017, 160 new couples signed up, which means our new acquisitions have gone up by a factor of eight. Website traffic has quadrupled since Owebest has helped us with SEO and our bounce rate is under 5%. Thanks to their work, our revenue grew by 20% month over month.

Sam is our point of contact and has a healthy understanding of the technical side as well as the business side. They prefer using GitHub and JIRA, but we also use Excel spreadsheets to keep a running list of tasks. They divide up the work where we have a specific developer for the SEO, website, and each app. They even gave us phone numbers for three of their developers in case we have any emergencies in the middle of their night.

What did you find most impressive about Owebest Technologies?

Owebest is the one partner that we work with that is technically strong and provides great value. They really take the time to understand our business. They are able to bridge the gap between the business and the technical side with their project management and communication. We’ve always said you can have two out of these three things—cheap, fast, or well-done. Owebest is the only development team I’ve worked with that have been all three of those at the same time.
