A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner and founder of WonderTrack. Our product is a posture assessment device, intended to measure posture using line lasers, a camera system and a software system.
What challenge were you trying to address with Outdesign Co.?
We needed someone to help us design the brackets that set the device.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Outdesign Co. helped us create the system. It’s designed in such a way that a set of brackets holding the line lasers will slide up and down aluminum square tubing to conduct measurements. I created the rough design on paper, and the team was able to take that and incorporate it into a CAD drawing. From that CAD drawing, they created a file that could be used by a 3D printer to print out the bracket.
What is the team composition?
I worked primarily with Tarun (Co-Founder).
How did you come to work with Outdesign Co.?
I found them on UpWork. I vetted a number of mechanical engineers that were used to working with 3D-printed products. Outdesign Co. seemed like the easiest company to communicate with, which was important to me because this project took a lot of attention to detail.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $3,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The collaboration took place from January 2017–July 2019.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
One of the things I really appreciated about working with Outdesign Co. is that there were very few revisions that needed to be done. There was some trial and error based on how the bracket would fit on the tubing with the lasers, but their work was extremely accurate. The team took a lot of care with their measurements and dimensions.
How did Outdesign Co. perform from a project management standpoint?
Outdesign Co. managed the project excellently. Their quality of communication was high, and they were accurate in terms of timeline. There wasn’t a lot of confusion in terms of how something was going to be developed and when it was going to be finished. We used email to communicate, and at the most actively engaged parts of the project, we were in touch about every day.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Outside of being a very professional team with talented engineers and great customer service, they’re very personable. Tarun even sent us a Christmas card, and every time I talk to him, he takes care to ask about how I’m doing and about life in general. He and his team really have a personal touch that you don’t often see with other businesspeople. They built a lot of rapport and trust. Overall, the two things that distinguish Outdesign Co. from other providers are their communication skills and speed of service.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There’s nothing I can think of. I’ve been really happy with the services Outdesign Co. provided.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure that whatever you’re asking of them is laid out in a succinct and clear format, in a way that they can follow step-by-step. If you’re not an engineer, try and provide drawings that are as accurate as possible outlining what you’d like to see.
Internal stakeholders are pleased with Outdesign Co.’s contributions, noting the team’s accuracy of measurements and dimensions in creating the product. Throughout the project, they delivered quickly and accurately, providing a high level of communication and professionalism.
