Suitable prospects are notoriously difficult to approach as this is a sensitive discussion, and there is a lot of competition to source these valuable opportunities.

They approached us in the early days of our launch when we did not have a clear vision of where to start. Of course, we received several proposals from companies in the Philippines, India, and Ukraine but Opus Growth Partner’s proposal sounded to us like a company that really understood how to pick the right target audience and approach them.

They had a very competitive rate. Their proposal had a couple of catchy phrases ‘30 day ROI guaranteed’ & ‘Results Guaranteed’ which sounded like they have confidence in what they do, plus they are present in the UK so we decided to give them a try.

When we were approached by Opus we were at the Go to the Market stage and we had no clear vision on how to approach our audience, other than that we needed to take advantage of COVID forcing companies to operate remotely. Their team claimed they could help us find qualified leads and sell our licenses easily, as our product seems attractive and needed at the moment. Initially, we weren't confident of their ability to deliver as they were newly launching as well.

But we decided to give them a try as their proposal had catchy phrases and their management seemed very professional. It was shocking that in a very short period they were able to generate a huge amount of qualified leads and sold a couple of licenses. At that stage, we didn't have an onboarding team or customer support and it was difficult for myself and my partner to handle it, so we were offered by them a new proposal that included customer support and onboarding at a higher rate than some of their competitors.

Because we trusted them and they proved to us that they can deliver on their promises we decided to sign the new proposal. We are glad that at that moment we didn’t decide to hire another firm. Because having our lead gen, sales, and tech support all with a single firm that has been delivering their services at a consistently high quality, gives us peace of mind.

They’ve generated 113 qualified leads since we launched and were able to sell 26 licenses to date. Their customer support attends to calls quickly and effectively. Their technical support is very professional and is able to solve directly better than 95% of issues without escalating them to management.

They designed the workflow and we trusted them. It went very smoothly. We never had any issues with them in communication as their project manager was reachable at any time via slack, zoom, and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The quality of their service, because when it comes to lead generation they don't just pull a list of contacts with a certain title and share it or approach them. They come up with a list of leads who are qualified and a reason behind approaching them.

We respect that they have research & quality teams running in the back-end to make sure that every lead we approach is qualified, every call made is monitored by the quality team which ensures that their team delivers the service up to the standards they promised. They are a great team that delivers what they promise.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Their price is slightly higher, but it’s cheap for the quality of service they deliver.

We have worked with their senior team before, building them a structured data solution, so it was a natural progression deciding to choose Opus for Lead Gen. When it comes to lead generation and sales it's really difficult to find a reliable firm to not only generate leads, but qualify them as well! Many companies just scrape data into an excel sheet and share it, or send boring promotional campaigns that generate a very low volume of leads.

But these guys did their research, shared with us a plan. Once we gave them a green light they got their team to research the data and did A/B testing of the email copy, call scripts and linkedin messages to maximize the results.

It was very effective, they were always connected to our team via zoom, Google Drive and other platforms. Their response rate is within a couple of hours and most importantly their senior team is always on top of things, making sure we are satisfied all the time.

We came across their website on our search for a lead generation firm. As they launched in 2020 we expected them to be able to offer their services at a reasonable cost. Our management had previously had to make a difficult decision and lay off a few employees to keep the business lean. However, they still wanted us to manage and pitch for new business.

So when I suggested that we hire a firm to generate leads we had a very tight budget. It wasn't ordinary practice for us to hire an outsourcing firm so the management was hesitant to invest in unqualified leads, but were willing to increase the budget if the selected agency could hit their target and help us stay profitable.

This is where Opus Growth Partner agreed with us and started assigning their team to generate leads, qualify them and schedule a meeting for us to try closing the deal. As they proved themselves offering us lead generation, our management decided to explore other services they offer and assigned them to be our strategic outsourcing partner offering us ongoing lead generation & sales support.

They were actually able to generate a huge amount of qualified leads, and scheduled at least 2 meetings per week as promised. We were able to close a few deals that were retainer contracts and a few clients that were hesitant to invest during that period and decided to use our rate card instead for their campaigns/projects, but the good news is that recently we were able to get them to sign a retainer agreement instead as the market has started inclining.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was very effective, they acted as part of the team. Opus suggested the workflow from the initial stage, and our management decided to follow it as they were fine to implement best practices for greater efficiency. The management was clear during the meeting that they wanted us to directly work with them and not disturb them or get them involved as they kept their whole focus on the core functions of the business.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They really care about the business and have helped us keep it going during a very difficult time. They acted as if they were an in-house team working for us. When we were hooked to a sales call with a huge enterprise, their CEO joined us on the call to help close the deal. They were proactive and they knew how to reach decision-makers and drive them to a call with us and followed up as well to try closing the deal.

I remember last quarter when we were asked by the management to target a certain company and we weren't able to get hold of the decision-maker, but when we asked the Opus team, they were able to reach them and even shared with us the contact information of the decision-maker. Sadly we weren’t able to close the deal with them as they were already on a retainer contract with another firm, but we were able to fulfill the request of my management.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Honestly looking at how reliable they were, I would have liked to hire them for other services that match our company offering as a third party marketing provider.

We were referred to them by our existing outsourcing partner, who was previously responsible for lead generation and other services. They decided to eliminate lead generation from their service offering, and introduced us to their new strategic partner, as they wanted to focus more on other BPO services.

We had an introductory meeting with their CEO and as they had a background relevant to our offering and platform they easily understood our requirement and were able to prove that to us during the introductory call, so we decided to proceed with them. Initially it was disappointing that I had to change my lead gen vendor, but ultimately I have been grateful for the recommendation and have found a long term specialist lead gen partner.

Upon success of being one of the most reliable online platforms for students in the Gulf region looking for courses to attend online instead of having to visit private tutors at their home, we have decided to start a new offering which is becoming a reliable online platform for online staff training. This requirement needed a huge database of companies and some research to know which companies to approach.

It was a difficult task for us, but easy for them as they had a research team who was able to scrape data of decision makers in organizations that are currently scaling who could be interested in deploying a training program for their staff to increase their productivity. They reached the decision makers via phone/email and other communication channels. The sales team filled our calendar with appointments and joined us on the call to help us close the deal.

These guys are smart. They were able to easily identify our target audience, also which companies are scaling in the market at the moment and were able to find the contact details of the decision makers, reached them via email/phone and were able to schedule a call with them. The data they were able to generate in just a short period of time is 4x the volume of the data generated by the firm we used in 2019 and 6x the data our in-house team tried generating back then. The number of qualified leads was really high, which was actually impressive.

I don’t think there is much improvement they can do, as they are very specialised at what they do.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the sales director for Asset Disposal. We are an IT disposal and data destruction company. We go and do this in the public and private sectors and remove the company’s end-of-life IT equipment. We then process it, destroy data, provide certifications, and then determine whether it’s good enough to reuse, or whether it goes to recycling — that’s in line with the waste hierarchy, to prevent the overall impact on the environment as much as possible.

We also offer data destruction services where we will go to certain locations and shred their data devices onsite — obviously, there is no tangible asset left at the end of it so it’s a chargeable service.

What challenge were you trying to address with Opus Growth Partners?

The main challenge is that we are a new business, and as an organization, when we bring on a customer, we tend to retain them well and we provide a good customer experience. We have a team of account managers that sit in-house who are responsible for generating new business, but obviously, a lot of their time is taken up by looking after existing customers. To grow the business, we needed to increase the volume of customers that we have.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Opus filled two voids for me. I’ll generally give them an industry that I am interested in. For example, an academy, and I’ll tell them that I wanted every single academy in the UK in my database, with a decision-maker and their contact details. They will then go out and find the data for me, but they also put the data through the first prospecting run and generate leads. 

In addition, they source, access, and validate data, and if it’s the right profile company and contact, they put it through the first wave of prospecting to generate leads. Then at the point where someone becomes interested, they would then pass it onto me and my team to follow up and close it — essentially the process is data harvesting, data cleansing, and lead generation.

What is the team composition?

There are currently four people from their team, but it started with one person. The four heads are account managers or sales executives, and then I also have a head who is doing social media support, and our marketing director is doing content and research.

How did you come to work with Opus Growth Partners?

They contacted me. I am from an outsourcing background, and I know a lot about outsourcing, data, contact strategy, outreach, and I knew what I wanted. The cost point in the UK and the execution in the UK is too expensive, and not good enough essentially, so you might as well have people internally. 

When Hugo (CEO) reached out to me, we had a good conversation and he had some good ideas. I felt he was going to be capable of the theories he was putting in front of me so it was a no-brainer at it was at a cost point to give it a go — we gave it a go, and it has been going well.

How much have you invested in them?

For the first three months, we were spending £1,250 GBP (approximately $1,700 USD), and for every month after that, we’ve spent £5,000 GBP (approximately $6,800 USD). We’ve probably spent around £45,000 GBP (approximately $61,800 USD) in total so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

It has been almost a year since we started working with them, and it is still ongoing.

As long as the business wants to grow, we will continue working with them. If the business gets to a point where our customer base and operation can’t handle the amount of volume that comes through, then obviously I would have a decision to make at that point. However, that wouldn’t be down to their performance; it would be down to our capacity. I will carry on working with Opus for as long as I want to bring in new customers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The first metric is clean data; seeing how many records of clean data are going through the system every single day — the target is to have 20 new clean records to be started every single day. We have a contact strategy that basically utilizes four email addresses, various telephone calls, and a couple of LinkedIn connections. The theory behind it is if we set up 20 new emails for a single email, we’ll end up doing 80 per day — we’ll also have various phone calls, and LinkedIn connections throughout that process as well. 

I will say that the team from Opus, in terms of an activity KPI, overachieve massively every single day, week, and month — they do a really good volume of activity which is half the battle. I know they track the email open rate, and if the email open rate is good and the response rate is low, we know we need to tweak it. It’s been a good position for a while, and I think they achieve about a 40% open rate.

Ultimately what it boils down to, is how much data is going in the system nice and clean. I want to build a database of every single ideal target that I want to go after in the market, and I want it to sit in my database. That database is building nicely, and it’s also how many leads they’re generating — I do monitor how many leads they are generating but the real thing I monitor is how many of their leads are converted into deals. 

Their minimum target for a month is four leads to convert into a deal, and I recognize that is partly on my side of the fence as well. If we have a good lead and we don’t close it, there isn’t much they can do about that.

An example of one of the leads that we closed recently, is for an academy. They tested us out, and we have done two collections for them. As long as we do a good job, they are going to let us do a collection for all of the schools. Another lead might just be one collection a year, but that is just our industry across the board.

How did Opus Growth Partners perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done really well to be fair, and I have no complaints on that front. If I ever need anything from them, or if anything needs to be amended, then we get together and talk it through as a team. I have worked with a lot of outsourcers in the past, and a lot of the time, it is very much us and them — it’s not like that with Opus because we are very much on the same side, so if there is a project to work on, we will have people from our side and people from their side to work on it. 

I think that the team cohesion capability that they put forward is really positive. We’re both doing the same thing, and we’re both looking to achieve the same goal. Obviously, the benefits to them are different, but ultimately, if we are successful, we are successful together. From a project management standpoint, it is just positive really.

We use all sorts of things for communication such as WhatsApp, email, phone, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. It is whatever is best at the time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with their attention and the logic that they apply to the process. Opus has a contact strategy where if something is worth prospecting, you prospect it properly. They don’t just prospect anybody, they make sure that the contact you are prospecting within that organization fits the profile of the contact that you want to speak to. 

Once you have done that, and they are worth prospecting, they are put through this contact strategy of the four emails, various phone calls, and LinkedIn connections. You spend more time on an individual prospect if it is the right prospect, and therefore, it is worthwhile spending the time on it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

To be honest, I don’t have any negative feedback for them. The team I have is consistent. We manage the team as individuals, and each individual is a trusted individual and they have their own development areas. Sales isn’t easy, and if you are being ruthless, you can always say you want more — but you also have to understand that there is a way to get more and a way to just churn through outsourced partners.

If you set a target that just isn’t obtainable, tell them they need to hit it, and you put them on a cost per acquisition. They’re either going to leave you or you are going to leave them. The way that we work with Opus is that they are very much part of the team and we work it out together. If we run a project or a campaign, and we don’t quite obtain the results we thought we were going to obtain, then we do some analysis, work it out, and make some tweaks. We then carry on until we get there and so far, to date, we have always gotten there.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Listen to them. They have good ideas and good theories of how a sales operation should work. That’s not just from a direct sales point of view; it is a holistic point of view. You have to see if the content on your website matches what you are trying to do, see if you have decided on your audience, and see if the content on your website matches the copy in your content and your email. You should also see if it matches the copy on your social media, and see if are you sending the same message out across the board or whether it is different.

They have a grasp of the whole picture, whereas a lot of companies will say they will just do the direct mail for us or do the brochure for example — it can end up being bitty. Opus helps us consider the whole approach from top to tail because ultimately, they know they will be more successful with their outreach if your entire business looks like it should.

If you’re going to spend a reasonable sum of cash with somebody, you aren’t just going to speak to the salesperson on the other end of the phone and decide that you like them therefore, you will buy from them. You will check out their website and social, and when the proposal comes over, and it doesn’t look professional, you are going to start doubting whether or not you are making the right decision. 

Listen to them because they will help you. Depending on what stage you’re in, you may only want them to only do outreach. The outreach is going to be successful anyway because you have your house in order. If your house isn’t in order, the biggest piece of advice I would give to someone is to just listen to what they are saying.

We contacted more than 50 companies, interviewed about 10 of them and tried to work with two. Opus Growth Partners was just the best. James, their leader, contacted me in several minutes after my inquiry. His answers to all my questions are professional and complete.

The services we bought from Opus included finding leads according to our ideal customer profile, contacting them and forwarding "warm" and "hot" prospects to us for further communications.

What was the team composition?

The services includes one full time SDR. In addition, the company leader consults the SDR when required, using his really huge experience.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

They found 11 warm/hot leads in just two months. It is more than we expected to get.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Very effective. They have their own formal business process, which is rather good. However, we asked for several adjustments as we need non standard approach in a couple of places. They made the required adjustments immediately.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are smart. And they work to reach our goal, not to just meet formal criteria.

Is there any area for improvement or anything that could have been done differently?

I do not see such areas as for now.
