We strive to solve the biggest daily challenges of smallholder farmers. We use off-grid solar technology to provide our customers with reliable access to water, irrigation, lighting, and mobile charging. I'm writing this review in the capacity of director of software

For what projects/services did your company hire Onion Applications, and what were your goals?

Our existing website had been built in a hurry and had not grown with us as a company. We onboarded Onion.ke for a full overhaul and they delivered, but truly DELIVERED. Gray went above and beyond to understand our needs, showed a true agile partner with his flexibility and resielience, and got us across the line with a website that we are beyond proud of.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We researched a few website developers within and outside of Kenya, but with Onion, there was an immediate click. We felt understood and trusted the expertise of gray and the team. Happy we did so!

We worked with Gray mostly. Highly recommend working with him.

We now have a digital presence we can be proud of! It's a bit too early to speak about traffic increase, but the pride we have says it all!

Onion delivered in a fast-paced and was very open and fast when it came to delivering the next iteration. This allowed us to see the website evolve without too much overhead and politics. We collaborated mostly through digital forms of giving feedback which Gray and the team understood very well. The inital meeting was inperson and set the right tone for the project.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their value for money

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

There was a period of reduced activity, during which I think the team was prioritizing something else, but overall no major compalints.

The project took almost a year , it consisted of taking down details of the company and its key members. Also putting together details that would set us apart from our competitors. There was also photography included

The was a project manager whom we had meetings with an assistant and photographer

Since the website went up there have been many inquiries we even added more financial services as there was a lot of demand in the market . we are now among the top financial services providers in Nairobi

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow between our team and theirs was very effective as they are top notch professionals . The chemistry was impressive they understood our needs just by researching about us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We found the way they related with us very impressive. No ideas and suggestions were taken lightly . Their research was also top notch . They are very professional and even till date we have maintained a good relationship with them.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The speed could definitely need some improvement but the output surpasses that. The quality of the work was excellent

I’m the co-founder of Adilika Kenya, a social enterprise that publishes stories about people in an informal setting. 

What challenge were you trying to address with Onion Smart Solutions?

I worked with Onion Smart Solutions to develop a new website with more functionalities.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Onion Smart Solutions moved my blogging site from WordPress to a new CMS. The goal was to have a custom domain while still maintaining a similar content publishing experience.

They had me decide on a template first so that we could standardize how we published posts. From there, I gave specifics on how I wanted the site to look, and they built out the solution. The team also included a way to collect reader emails so that they could subscribe to our publication along with custom-designed email templates.

I worked directly with one developer.

I knew a marketer who used to work with Onion Smart Solutions, and she referred me to them. After I reached out, I shared my project requirements with them, and they said they could deliver.

It cost about $150.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project took place in March 2020 and took two weeks to complete.

It was a great process. They listened to my needs, and I had time to review their work and give feedback. The turnaround time was quick, too.

It was spot-on communication from the start. I was working on something else while doing that project, so I liked that they kept updating me throughout.

They met my requirements and didn’t say they couldn’t do what I wanted done.

I am the owner of a package forwarding/personal shopping company and I run the operations.

We had an introductory meeting where we discussed the needs of the business and what features we would need the website to have in order to meet them. Onion Applications them came up with a wireframe that we would start with and build upon with time. Throughout the project there were several hands on meetings to design the website to our satisfaction.

At the time of rollout the website was well designed and functional. There were clear calls to action and tools to monitor and quantify progress with sales that would inform innovation strategies moving forward.

The project was handled with professionalism and patience most milestones were reached on time and the developer enriched the product with their own ideas.
