I'm the Founder and Executive Producer of a digital media production business. We have created and shipped multiple film, adveritising, digital content, mobile app, and VR/AR/XR experiences in the past.

For what projects/services did your company hire Nineva Studios, and what were your goals?

We had two objectives - the first to implement our 360 film render into game engine so as to utilize native game engine 3d sound design, allow the project to be packaged up as a single VR app, and to integrate web APIs allowing for synchronized control of the app across multiple devices. The second objective was to build an admin app that would give a power user complete control of an unlimited number of end VR units (thus allow the user to play them in synchronization).

My teams have previously been impressed using several of Nineva's commercially available plugins for Unreal and Unity, so that led to conversation around this custom software development project. The team was pro-active in defining potential solutions, clear in outlining scope, schedule, and budget, and always prompt and professional in delivering the work.

The work was developed across Unity and Android tool chains, utilizing Firebase APIs to manage device synchronization. All work was clearly submitted to github and provided for review and testing in daily and weekly updates. The team implemented the App Lab distribution channel in Oculus/FB for easier reviews.

A project manager led the efforts. They also had the senior technologist on the team reviewing work in progress to ensure it hit on both primary objectives. There was an android developer and Unity developer involved throughout, as well as QA resource.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The combination of the compiled Unity app and the remote admin app allowed for a robust and reliable solution for managing multiple VR experiences happening at the same time in the same place. All software worked as desired. On the Unity side, credit to the team for finding multiple optimizations throughout the course of the project to ensure that the highest quality resolution could be maintained without performance loss.

The team was flexible in terms of tools, but we elected to use Telegram, github, and email for the most part. Communication was daily., and very responsive. Being on opposite time zones was actually extremely helpful, as I could check in in the morning on the prior days work, and our back-and-forth for the first few hours of my team's day helped inform the creative/production work in NA and set the stage for the following days work at Nineva.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

These guys are superstars, very skilled, careful, and committed. Given the tragic situation unfolding in their country, their work is more indicative of the resilience and optimism that the world has seen of the Ukraine people. I was very happy to have them contributing to this project.

I had nothing but a positive experience. Everything was on time, as specified, and communication was excellent.

During development, our feedback, test results and additional requirements were incorporated.

Within the first week of our app launching, our app garnered over 2000 downloads.

We had a shared Slack channel, where Nineva’s developer and I were able to communicate directly. We used this channel to ask questions, give daily reports and provide feedback.

Initial progress on the project was impressive. Nineva Studios delivered their first build and covered the main work within three weeks. An additional sprint was needed for adding new feature requests and resolving issues that came up during testing.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We are happy with the work and the collaboration. Like is the case in all software development, some bugs and issues came up along the way. But they were all resolved in a timely manner.

We own most of the OTT technology, being it from the back-end, middleware, front-end apps and have our own CDN.

Since day one, we decided to go that route to be able to control and develop specific features and not rely on any third-party software vendor. We have created and developed our Apps based on the Unity platform, and those apps are distributed on IOS, Apple tvOS, Android, Android TV, html5.

The complexity of integration, security and development is very high, and we have been working with several subcontractors, each selected as the best specialists for specifically defined competencies. We hired Nineva Sudios to maintain up-to-date all of our front-end apps and to implement a new feature for IOS and Android.

What were your goals for this project?

The specific goal of the project was to develop the feature of Google Cast into our applications. Google cast is a feature that enables users of our App to remotely cast our service from their phone or tablet to a Cast device or a compatible TV that integrates the Cast protocol.

This feature is implemented in the major streaming apps likes Youtube, Netflix or Amazon Prime. Regarding the integration of the Google Cast protocol on Unity platform, we did a lot of research to find existing developments or plugin. Still, we concluded that no one had implemented that feature on the Unity development platform.

We, therefore, decided to develop all the code by ourselves, integrate the development in our IOS and Android App, but also extend that code into a Unity asset/plugin that could be distributed independently to other App developers needing that specific feature.

Taras Leskiv and Nineva Studios have been recommended to us by our legacy developer Ivan Gadzhega who has been leading all of our Unity platform development projects since day one. We also were in contact with Taras as we are using one of his assets in our Apps.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The achievement of the project has created additional value to our customers and to our company and business partners. It also created new opportunities for future development and increased the value of our proprietary knowledge and vision in the OTT sector.

As GVAX S.A. has recently entered in now exclusive partnerships with other Telecom companies, one of them being Tiekom in Spain, this development secures strong relationships and future common commercial goals that we build with our partners.

Their team improved the avatar feature and redesigned the dashboard. Our stickiness ratio improved over the course of January with all of the different changes Nineva Studios made. Our ability to acquire and hold users over a length of time went up as well.

Nineva Studios thought ahead and strategized about how to hit project goals. They got the project done within the contract’s timeframe. If there was a block, we worked together to move tasks around so that their team could knock out other solutions. They were transparent and communicated well.

Their team immersed themselves in the project. They didn’t just code to do the work but rather cared about the project. Their team came up with solutions before I even asked for them, which was incredibly invaluable.
