What challenge were you trying to address with Nimi?
We hired Nimi for their software development services. For context, we didn’t want to do the project in-house since it wasn’t part of the core of our business. As a result, we needed a team to do it for us.

What was the scope of their involvement?
We had a call with Nimi and showed them the designs of what we needed them to build. After that, we had some back and forth, and then they assigned four junior engineers to build the product from scratch.

We worked with four junior engineers and a project manager.

I found Nimi through a Slack group and met their founders a few times.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from May–July 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our key success metric was completing the work before the end of July 2023, and Nimi delivered on time — they were fast. The quality of their work was okay. We had to make some fixes, but that was fine.
How did Nimi perform from a project management standpoint?
They delivered their work on time and on budget. On top of that, the team’s communication was great. They were super proactive and honest. For tools, we used Slack and Trello.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It was a cut-and-dried product, and the project only needed to be done. Given that, the team delivered it according to the specifications we provided.
Are there any areas they could improve?
If we were to go back and do it again, I’d ask for more senior engineers instead of four junior engineers.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Don’t go with four junior engineers. Work with a senior engineer and have an engineer on your side to review the code.

Their engineers were deeply embedded and fully supported our platform when the US team was off for the evening. We wouldn't have been able to operate around the clock without them!

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Our product team delivered on the features we promised to our clients and they could immediately integrate with our APIs to build their own product roadmaps. From a program point-of-view, they benefited from expanded fraud and KYC capabilities.

They communicated daily, sometimes twice a day because of the time difference. We could always count on them to attend video meetings for stand-up. Nimi's engineers were always receptive to our feedback and they were quick to make adjustments as necessary. They were flexible in working with a startup too and knew how to pivot with us as we made decisions based on real time data.

Nimi provided consulting services to help buuld a DevEx and DevRel experience for the API Platform. After successful guidance on strategy, Nimi was tasked to help build a font end for a self service onboarding to out API platform. This involved building new screens and the UX around making all API calls to set up a user correctly on the backend.
The system in itself was pretty complicated and we had introduced a brand new OAuth based authentication system. Nimi team worked diligently to understand the full architecture and helped build a great self serve platform front end Nimi's QE team also helped automate our QA testing suite and solidify and stabilize our API platform

Launched a live UI/UX platform for self serve onboarding with live customers onboarding each day
Increased automation of QA testing suite from less than 50% to 85%

Daily stand ups, constant communication. Being a boutique shop their top level management would always make time to resolve any discrepancies or blockers. Most projects were delivered in good time despite many logistical delays (outside of the vendor's control). If things were getting delayed, we had calls to reassess scope of items and discussed adjusted delivery timelines.

The personal attention and attention to detail. Top and mid management was very much involved as much as developers and constantly assessing their quality. They would call out any delays from their side and make up for any time lost by working extra hours. Everyone deeply cared about the quality of work provided.
Are there any areas for improvement or something Nimi could have done differently?
Our team and Nimi's team could have planned a better utilization of resources but some things were out of human control and hindsight is 20-20. Don't think there was actually anything that could have been done differently in the given time but we had a lot of learnings. Some periodic retrospectives would be helpful but this is general advice.
