BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and CTO of a startup that assists retail businesses with customer service.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Nexia Digital?

We had the idea to launch our startup about three years ago. With limited resources, we needed a company to design a simple software system for us so that we could begin phase 1 of our development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Nexia assisted in the design of the system, providing a range of technology choices. Once we settled on initial ideas, they built the platform using mostly open source software. They used a PHP framework with MySQL as the backend. Three years later, we’re still using the technology platform they created.

After building the core system, we hired Nexi to design a mobile app for Android and iOS.

What is the team dynamic?

We worked directly with the CEO, Krishna Kumar, and one of the best things about his company is the stability. The same team of developers has worked on our projects from the beginning, and that has made it easy for us to communicate and build a relationship. The team had a keen understanding of the product stack and knew how to address all of our needs.

How did you come to work with Nexia Digital?

Being a technology person myself, I had an idea of how the project should develop. I did a lot of research to find companies with certain open source technology experience and came across Nexia’s website. I set up a screening meeting with a number of vendors, but Nexia understood our needs as a startup and was willing to stagger payments during the initial core system developments. They also impressed us with their deep understanding of the technology.

How much have you invested with them?

We have spent between $25,000 and $30,000, which includes the release that we’re working on now.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in May or June 2014, and the relationship is ongoing. We have a great relationship with Nexia and still use them for app development. We’re working on a major release right now

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Proof of their success lies in the fact that they’ve been able to solve all of our technical problems and build specific functionalities in the mobile app. We haven’t been disappointed. We’ve been with them for three years, so that’s a testament to their work.

How did Nexia Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Their responsiveness is a key reason why we’re still in a relationship with them. Even after the initial project was delivered, they were always available to answer any questions we had, free of charge. We’ve had constant access to the developers through WhatsApp, and they also give very timely responses.

They also do a good job of meeting deadlines and will work through weekends if needed. As a startup that works 7 days a week, it’s great to have a partner who is willing to do the same. Other companies would charge extra for that, but we have not had that problem with Nexia.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re honest, which is very important to me. They’re always upfront about what they can and can’t do and give a realistic timeline. While other firms may give exaggerated sales pitches that result in mediocre products, Nexia is very straightforward, which gave us confidence in their abilities. If something doesn’t work out exactly as planned, we trust they’ll find a solution.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While the product is always delivered on time, documentation related to the product can sometimes take an additional week. This isn’t really a major issue, and when they’ve worked hard all week, we’re certainly willing to cut them some slack.
