I’m the CEO of an advertising and branding agency focused primarily on web and mobile software development. I'm also the CEO and CTO of a newly created Fintech company offering financial services and products.
For what projects/services did your company hire mTraction Enterprise, and what were your goals?
For over 15yrs we’ve been very successful growing our software services for our clients and we decided to launch a proprietary Fintech product in response to the Digital Asset Business Act passed in Bermuda in 2018.
We started development in 2019 and completed the entire UI/UX with plans to complete the back-end development in early 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we had to focus on serving our clients and helping them pivot and survive the global lock-down.
As a result we did not have time or resources to complete our Fintech product. We hired the team at Affle (mTraction Enterprise) to help use develop the backend of our application. Our goal was to launch a fully functional MVP in a timely manner and be first to market.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We found them after an exhausting search online for a seasoned mobile developer. We considered them along with 3 other vendors. Due to the complexity of the project, high priority and necessity to get to market first, we needed a results-driven development partner that was committed to following our UI/UX and requirement document to the letter.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
They helped us develop the back-end of the mobile application using our UI/UX as a guide. We first started with a discovery workshop to review the UI/UX and go over our functional requirements.
They provided detailed feedback, Phase 1 scope of work, and a timeline for completion before starting development using React JS and Dart. They completed Phase 1 (MVP) in 2 - 4 week sprints which allowed us to test functionality and give feedback.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There were 22 people connected to the project with 6 people in the core team. This included an account manager, project manager, project analyst, 2 senior back-end developers, and 1 analytics developer. Other core resources would come and go depending on the sprint requirements.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We were able to develop the MVP in a timely manner which was a major accomplishment considering the global pandemic. Due to the high quality of the project we’ve been able to form a partnership with the government to become their digital asset remittence provider for government services. The development experience was exceptional and enjoyable. So we decided to retain their services for further iterations to our product.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
The project management style was great. We met monthly with the account and project manager to go over the project status and feedback. We also met weekly with the project manager and development team to go over the status of sprint and overall project wins and challenges. We communicated through Google Meets, Whatsapp, and email.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
The most impressive thing about this company is their dedication to the task and project. I never heard no or not possible. All of our ideas and requirements where executed perfectly.
We also had direct access to the project manager and team via WhatsApp which made communication instant and clear even though the team was in different locations and timezones. This was very impressive considering the global lock-down and transitioning to WFH (work from home) several time through-out the project.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
While the quality of work was great overall, there was a slight language barrier which caused clarity issues in the early stages. Once we got familiar to the accent, everything flowed smoothly. Additionally, since we provided all the UI/UX, a little attention to detail would have eliminated a few delays during the project. Awesome experience otherwise. I would definitely recommend the team.

Introduce your business and what you do there?
I’m the assistant director of IT and applications at ISEAS, a government agency within the Ministry of Education in Singapore.
What challenge were you trying to address with mTraction Enterprise?
We needed to have a mobile application developed.
What was the scope of their involvement?
mTraction Enterprise designed and developed our mobile app for Android and iOS using React. This platform allows users to consume our key products, and we’ve implemented readable content in it, including news, articles, and product descriptions. It also serves as a tool for the public to interact with us and register for public events and webinars.
Currently, mTraction Enterprise is creating another mobile app to address upcoming businesses. They’re also increasing our platform’s information capabilities and expanding the registration processes for events. Additionally, they’re working on syncing our two main websites with the mobile apps with an automation implementation.
What is the team composition?
mTraction Enterprise has six people working on our project, but I mainly interact with the project manager, the QA, and the business director.

We heard about them through another group within the government. They had already been prequalified by that group, which simplified the process. We also liked that they had experience in their field.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The mobile app developed by mTraction Enterprise is very user-friendly, and the feedback that we’ve received from users has been positive. We have to meet certain KPIs and standards for our websites and applications because we report to the central government agencies who oversee all these initiatives. mTraction Enterprise is now working with us to ensure that we’re meeting all those KPIs.

Although some things initially took longer than expected, mTraction Enterprise’s project management has been great. Our communication improved when we understood each other’s working styles. We use Basecamp, Jira, and Google Docs to manage the project.

We hadn’t done a mobile development project before, so we discovered that these projects have many complexities. However, mTraction Enterprise has done a good job handling all of them and teaching us a lot of things. For example, the screen size and user navigation on mobile platforms are very different from web platforms.

By utilizing Affle's in-house product "Shoffr" we were able to launch the platform within the targeted time. We started the retailers onboarding well on time and launched the platform for end-users to place orders.

Being a principal consultant myself, I understand the importance of documenting the journey of idea to deployment. The goal of the project was to pen down the minute details in terms of the UI-UX, integrations of the legacy platform at the parameter level, data security, how the personal information will be kept secured, data masking, cloud security compliance, best cloud solution provider, chatbot integration, etc.

The list is quite large including FRD (Functional requirement document), Flow charts, Site Maps, Test Suite/Cases, Test Summary & Code Coverage Report formats, Project Plan User Manual Architecture, API documents, Database schema, server setup details (SSL, VMs, Database, Storage), Production activities (Force logout, Force app update, Logging), customer acquisition plan and maintenance neds after go live, etc.

We demanded senior resources and Affle allocated one account manager, a project manager, 2 full-stack developers, 1 iOS developer, 2 analysts, and one solution architect. Different skills joined in between too to discuss the content and marketing needs.

My client was satisfied with the outputs so we are. We had a detailed debate on CMS and API selections, Affle assisted us during the client call. The interaction with our client was not in the scope but Affle considered and assisted during the discussions. We are satisfied with the efforts and the documentation of the Affle Enterprise team.

The communication was quite detailed due to the nature of the project we sit the whole day. The full-stack developers were also included to address the effort estimation. It was a smooth workflow.
