What challenge were you trying to address with mova.io?

I hired them to design and develop our app. I had wireframe concepts, but I needed help to transform them into a world-class product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I worked with a designer for about a month on a good flow through about 80-90 screens. Once we completed the design phase, we moved into development. We transferred all the screens into Swift for iOS and Android Studio for Android. The development process had a lot of milestones, and they helped flesh out changes and the intended logic. They created a web-based administrative backend that gives me the capability to manage the app itself and all the users within it.

What is the team composition?

All told, we worked with a team of seven. A project manager was my main point of contact, and I also interacted with a business development lead. Occasionally, I interacted with a developer.

How did you come to work with mova.io?

I posted the job on Upwork and received about 26 bids. I interviewed 16 companies, but mova.io offered the most realistic quote. They gave me ideas and helped me understand some technology gaps during the interview process, and their communication was very straightforward. They were truthful and pragmatic, and they had a good portfolio that made me confident in their abilities. They also worked with me on a milestone payment structure that ensured the project would meet the quality standards I wanted.

How much have you invested with them?

The initial project cost about $20,000, and we now work with them on an hourly basis.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2019. The contracted work is complete, but we've moved into the hourly arrangement I mentioned.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app rating is very good. In iOS, we're at a 4.1, which is good for a first version. We serve a fairly small area, but we've had over 2,000 downloads in three weeks. Within the app, we’ve seen 800 matches and users have sent over 3,700 messages to each other. The app helps people connect, and that's a huge sign of success.

How did mova.io perform from a project management standpoint?

mova.io addressed over 10,000 comments from our team, and our average wait time for a response is less than eight hours. They met all my needs and came up with new ideas I hadn't thought of. We had one-week and two-week sprints, and we collaborated through Trello and InVision. They prioritized tasks, and their project managers were well integrated with all their other teams. They delivered everything within our budget and deadlines.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The design is very special. They translated our ideas into an elegant app, and I'm so proud of the way the finished product looks. The designer did an amazing job, and the business development lead understood all of my goals. They provided real options and alternatives to consider, and we maintained a positive atmosphere without the entire development period. We worked together through everything as one big team, and we formed a genuine partnership.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything they should improve. There is a time zone difference, but that actually helped us from a scheduling perspective.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be transparent and honest with them about your needs and requirements. They will help you get the product you need.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I initially hired mova.io to update my company's multiple apps. They then consolidated the apps, as the App Store didn’t like that we were submitting numerous apps. Whereas our old apps had ten sessions, the app that mova.io developed provides users with unlimited access to our 500 hypnosis sessions.

In addition to putting all of our recordings in one place, the new app gives users the ability to set reminders of when to listen. It gives rewards for certain behaviors, such as listening for ten days in a row or listening to three different sessions.  

So far, they’ve built the app for iOS, but they’ll build on Android in the future.

What is the team composition?

I worked with 3–4 team members from mova.io. My primary contact was their main developer, and then he had people who were responsible for different things.

How did you come to work with mova.io?

I hadn’t worked with my past developers in a while, so I needed to find a new one. I found mova.io on Upwork. They were highly rated and reasonably priced.

How much have you invested with them?

I’ve spent around $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in August 2018, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has primarily gotten five-star reviews on the App Store. We’ve received positive feedback regarding the amount of information that the app contains, as well as its usability and aesthetically-pleasing design.

How did mova.io perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been above average in this regard. They’re easy to work with, organized, and professional. We mostly communicate through Upwork and Trello.

What did you find most impressive about them?

mova.io does what they say they’re going to do, when they say they’re going to do it. They’re conscientious about managing the project efficiently and honestly. The team provides good time estimates that you can count on. They’re also super organized.   

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything.

Any advice for potential customers?

I went into the project very organized and with a game plan, and that was helpful. The more you know what you want, the better mova.io will be able to meet your needs.

I’m the co-founder of Golden Generation. We provide a mobile application that connects business owners with job seekers.

Our internal team had UX designers, but we lacked the resources to build the app. We engaged mova.io for development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

mova.io translated our existing UX designs into an app. Using Ruby on Rails and AWS, they built a version for iOS devices and another for Android. The team provided the frontend implementations and developed the backend. They also created an admin dashboard for each iteration. Key features include location tracking and a swiping feature that allows users to mark their interest in a candidate or job opening. After they built the product, we were able to test it with users. mova.io then made improvements based on their feedback. 

What is the team composition?

We worked primarily with a scrum master who led a team of developers behind the scenes.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2018. mova.io finished development in January 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

mova.io finished a complicated application within 3–4 months, much to our delight. We have yet to launch as we are now working on attracting customers to our platform. mova.io has promised six months of support services once the app goes live. We’re considering extending our contract beyond that as well.

How did mova.io perform from a project management standpoint?

The team completed work in weekly sprints using agile methodology. They met every deadline and provided regular updates through Trello. mova.io also worked weekends for testing phases as needed. We appreciated their responsiveness and professionalism throughout the process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

mova.io’s highly skilled team responded quickly and flexibly to any issue that arose. They willingly went above and beyond their contracted scope. Whenever we needed something done, they made it happen.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the co-founder of a restaurant discovery app called Crave Halal. The app helps Muslims and other users find restaurants that serve halal food.

We needed resources to create a discovery and review platform that featured halal restaurants. This involved creating a website as well as an iOS app. Since we lacked any in-house engineers, we approached mova.io to lead the project development.

We wanted a web and mobile platform that allowed users to find halal restaurants based on their current location.

How did you select this vendor?

Initially, we compiled a list of app developers that we found online or through freelancing platforms. After conducting interviews, we decided to go with mova.io based on their portfolio, technical skills, and proposal quality.

Describe the project in detail.

The team developed the iOS and web apps according to our provided specifications and designs. The apps had similar functionalities such as user authorization, location-based services, filtering and search capabilities, detailed vendor information, and a rating system. Users could post photos, write reviews, and integrate them with social media networks. Finally, they built an admin panel, which allowed us to create restaurant profiles, edit them, or import others.

Their team consisted of a project manager, iOS developer, web developer, and QA engineer.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Currently, the app has over 10,000 users, and the mobile app has 13,000 halal restaurants across three countries. We continue to foresee fast growth in the future.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The developers were responsive and easy to communicate with. We used Slack to talk to each other and Trello for task management. They provided weekly builds to update us on the progress. This enabled us to provide feedback and have a say in the development as well.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Not only were the developers extremely smart and cooperative, they demonstrated strong development skills. Above all, they provided excellent customer service. Although our project had some challenging features, mova.io overcame all issues and completed the project on time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, nothing comes to mind. I believe our app has been successful because of mova.io’s efforts. The team performed above and beyond what we expected, and we were fortunate to have worked with them.

We sometimes had issues with code stability, but they were always resolved. Despite some delays, everything worked out.
