The Art of Gift Card Giving for The Home Depot®

The Home Depot, a long-standing client, reached out to Motion for solutions to refresh their holiday gift card campaign with the hope of driving greater engagement with their cards.

Motion developed a social promotion focused on shareable and inspired how-to content.  The goal was to drive sales by helping customers present the cards in new and inventive ways.

A Holiday Gift Card Giving campaign was developed

for Pinterest.  Using products sold at The Home Depot, a range of craft ideas were developed and brought to life.  Beautiful photography captured step-by-step direction.

60-second how-to videos were developed to extend the Pinterest campaign to Facebook and Instagram.

Wanting to stay ahead of pet food trends for natural and flavorful ingredients, Tractor Supply Co. tasked The Motion Agency with helping to further develop a brand extension to its premium 4Health line of private label pet food.  

Motion hit the ground running with an analysis of the competitive landscape both in-store and on-line. Motion’s efforts validated a need to take advantage of a current market trend, offering

an exotic protein extension as part of 4Health’s offering. Motion landed on the sub-brand name, Untamed, emotionally connecting to an active animal’s instincts. This led to the exploration and development of 6 unique flavor recipes and package designs that were not only eye-catching but provided a competitive edge within the marketplace.

Untamed is part of a growing family of products for our furry friends. It continues to be one of the most successful SKU’s at Tractor Supply Co. 

Putting “Awkward” to Bed for Serta/Simmons Mattress Company®

Mattress shopping can not only be daunting, but also very awkward. Serta asked Motion for ideas to improve the awkward 1-on-1 salesman dynamic, with the goal of transforming the shopping process to empower the customer and make the experience more enjoyable.

Motion and Serta created a unique store within a store experience that used technology to arm customers with information, helping simplify the process and even make

it a little fun!

The Serta Connection showroom created a seamless connection from technology to floor, breaking out the mattress technologies and comfort levels within each area to further help consumers hone in on a mattress selection that best suits their individual needs.

This new engagement strategy helped Serta train associates in a uniform manner, allowing the good to get better and the best to act as mentors with a new high-tech visual aid.

I am the chief of staff at the Chicago Federation of Labor, which represents nearly 300 union and labor organizations.


For what projects/services did your company hire Motion Agency?

I have hired Motion Agency for several projects—including website development, advertising, and public relations. My most recent experience with them involved organizing a PR plan ahead of our Labor Day luncheon for nearly 1,000 people.

What were your goals for this project?

Through this partnership, we hoped to create more brand awareness and build some hype leading into Labor Day weekend.


How did you select this vendor?

I have known Kimberly (Owner, Motion Agency) for many years, and I am very confident in her work.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

We relied on Motion Agency to write an editorial piece and create an advertisement to run in the local newspaper. Motion Agency also coordinated a social media campaign based on information gleaned from promotional videos about the luncheon.  

What was the team composition?

I worked closely with all levels of staff at Motion Agency—from the owner to the website and graphic designers.


Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The advertisement that Motion Agency created for Labor Day became the theme for our advertising for the next calendar year. It is visually stunning and a great representation of the brand. The posts on social media throughout the weekend resonated with our followers and received some of the highest engagement numbers for posts on our page.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Motion Agency is straightforward and accessible. They were easy to work with and receptive of my comments and feedback. We quickly agreed to deadlines, and Motion Agency had little trouble meeting them. If there was ever a delay, it was likely caused by my team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Out industry is unique and specialized, so I was pleasantly surprised when Motion Agency quickly understood what the goal of our project was. They are unafraid to ask questions or test their ideas. Their openness to feedback and the ability to change directions based on that feedback kept the project moving forward and prevented any significant issues from cropping up at the end.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, Motion Agency worked wonderfully. I only wish I had engaged them sooner for this project. They did a great job with the limited time they had.
