We hired MoldoWEB to help us both transform and scale globally: provide similar services to additional user-types such communities and municipalities, enable all users (of all types) to interconnect and collaborate, scale globally, and become the trusted go-to source for all things carbon.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We reached out to many vendors and did a broad online search. MoldoWEB clearly stood out by its experience, understanding of the problem, and especially the honesty. Unknown to the many other companies we interviewed, I deeply understand the problem space. So the standard "smiles", and assurances of "I know exactly what you need" -- didn't work in this case. History proved our choice of MoldoWEB correct.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The project is split into monthly cycles of agile development, where MoldoWEB puts in only 40 hours (due to our financial limitations). I will describe only the first 3 cycles, think of each as accomplishments carried out in 2 weeks of a single developer.

Creating a foundation for a backend data lake and advanced analytics using Google Cloud Products (GCP). This involved adapting our code in Angular to use many new features provided by GCP, the introduction of security, daily backups, automatically moving data from our no-SQL Firebase data to GCP Big-Query, and then Data-Studio, and verifying we can carry out advanced analytics.
Utilizing our new infrastructure to create administrative consoles for ourselves and communities, and providing dashboards that enable communities to deeply explore the impact of their user's actions and compare progress and reductions with each other.
Enabling users to create a long-term carbon reduction plan, where they decide what action/s they will take over time by balancing carbon reduction, costs, and savings per year. Typically users discover that within a few short years their investments begin to pay off.

We are working directly with their CEO, Lucian. His experience and professionalism are outstanding.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

All deliverables were tested, documented, and worked exactly as expected. It doesn't get better than that.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We worked directly with their CEO. Communication was open and honest both ways, and we met as often as needed -- but not more. For each iteration, we had very clear goals that were well specked out in ways we both understood clearly, including the outlining of technical interdependences between various components (this is where I have the advantage of deeply understanding software development and background as a system architect). We used Trello for project management.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Honesty, depth of technical expertise, I trust that if they do something, they do it right(far from trivial!), willingness to learn and explore new features if/when needed, the robustness of their deliverables.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I have had many bad experiences working with hired developers; in fact, I avoid it until absolutely necessary. In the case of MoldoWEB we just "hit it along" to my complete satisfaction.

How did you select MoldoWEB and what were the deciding factors?

We searched the market for highly experienced Angular developers that could join our team with short notice provide value really fast. During the interview, MoldoWEB stood out from the rest of the candidates with the experience gathered from the previous projects.

Another thing which we really appreciated was the mindset and the attitude MoldoWEB had during our discussions. We have a company culture which is heavily geared towards people, professional growth, open communication, taking ownership and constant feedback.

After the interview we felt like MoldoWEB would be a great match to our organization from both technical and cultural aspects, and we were right.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

Our team was in charge of rewriting the whole client application which was developed in Flash. Our PO which was based on the customer side was in charge of defining the backlog and all the requirements.

With regards to the UI/UX, the old Flash application served as the model as the migrated app had the look exactly the same as the old app. Each user story contained links to the page/s of the flash app for design references. For the migration we used Angular, started with Angular 2 and ended up with Angular 5.

We also used Kendo for Angular for various controls we had to create in the application. We worked according to the Scrum methodology, in 2 week Sprints. Every 2 weeks we had delivered a new version that could be used internally by the customer.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had only one person from MoldoWEB working with us, the founder of the company. He had the role of Lead Angular developer in the team.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The end customer was very happy with the new version of the web application. The delivered solution had the exact UI/UX as the old client, so the transition did not have any major impact on the users.

The only impact which was felt was the performance of the app as well as the smoothness of the transitions between different application states and the overall app stability.

We worked according to the Scrum methodology. Therefore we had the following meetings:

daily stand-ups
backlog refinement once every two weeks
sprint review once every two weeks
sprint retrospective once every two weeks
sprint planning once every two weeks

The Scrum master was based in Romania with the team. The PO was based on the customer side in Germany. The Account Manager was based in Switzerland. Timelines and major deliverables were defined by the PO together with the customer based on estimations and feedback from the development team.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

It was extremely easy to work with MoldoWEB. Lucian instantly became part of our team and we never felt like he was a consultant. His extensive knowledge as well as humble attitude made him very pleasant to work with. Our teams gained a lot of knowledge from our collaboration with Lucian and were very happy that they had the opportunity to work with him.

None that I can think ok.

What challenge were you trying to address with MoldoWEB?

I run a content and community forum site that’s 11 years old. I had hired someone before MoldoWEB to customize it. It runs on WordPress and I wanted to include some add-ons. Instead of making a plug-in, he hacked the core of WordPress, which deleted a lot of features and made it impossible to make automatic updates. I hired MoldoWEB to help redevelop and redesign this site. They’ve continued to work on it, making updates, adding new features, and resolving any issues.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I found a new platform that works with WordPress and MoldoWEB was able to migrate all of the 1.2 million forum posts, 20,000 members, and 10 years of content onto it. They also worked with us to completely reinstall WordPress so that we’d have the most up-to-date version.

I also do web and mobile web design for my clients so I outsource certain parts of that work to MoldoWEB. Additionally, they’ve designed custom plug-ins for another WordPress site that I run.

I contacted him through a freelancing site a couple of times and when we developed trust, we started working with him directly.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The traffic on the site tripled almost instantly after the relaunch and it has been steady since. This could be because of increased mobile accessibility and improved features. Almost all of the users love it.

How did MoldoWEB perform from a project management standpoint?

They speak English fluently. Their communication is excellent and when we make it clear that something is urgent, they get it done. We mostly contacted them via email and occasionally via Skype.

What did you find most impressive about them?

All of their work is of high quality.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I have no suggestions. I’m 100% satisfied with their work which is why I haven’t worked with anybody else in over 10 years.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise potential customers to have a very clear picture of what they want and need and what they’re trying to achieve. The better you communicate, the more likely they are to deliver.
