Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the founder of Populum, a direct to consumer hemp CBD oil brand. We opened in late 2016 and we sell a range of products from tinctures and capsules to skincare to pet products.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Milkshake Digital?

I started the company completely bootstrapped a few years ago and our website needed a refresh.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Milkshake Digital helped redesign our brand and redid the UI/UX of our website. The team completely rehauled the brand guidelines and packaging design. We did four or five rounds of mood boards for inspiration, to better articulate and visualize the brand look we were going for. Then, they sent over three or four iterations of designs including logos, color palettes, and fonts. 

Additionally, the team redeveloped our website and created new content in collaboration with us. They designed the layout of the website but took into account our expertise in the industry. They also help with any technical improvements, including adding widgets and improving backend functionality. 

What is the team composition?

I mainly interacted with the founders of Milkshake Digital. Even as Milkshake Digital and their customer base have grown, they’ve made it a priority to still have face time with us.

How did you come to work with Milkshake Digital?

We recieved a referral from a colleague we had in common.

How much have you invested with them?

We have invested about $180,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement with Milkshake Digital began in February 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We love our new branding! They helped bring to life the vision we were going after so we are very satisfied internally. We were trying to reshape how consumers think about CBD and our new branding helped make us a pioneer in that space. To this day, our branding assets are regularly mimicked by other brands.

How did Milkshake Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Milkshake Digital always meets their deadlines and communicates effectively. Having the founders involved showed that they valued our partnership, which is something they continued to prove with the level of work they produce. Our teams manage the project through Asana and primarily communicate through Slack and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re not just interested in growing their agency and revenue, they care about helping their clients. Milkshake Digital prioritizes their partnerships and producing quality work over anything else. The founders still put time into original clients instead of just chasing new ones. They value quality over quantity. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, everything has been great.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Milkshake Digital values the fact that we provide a lot of feedback and input during the initial phases. It helps us be equal partners in the process. Be as involved as they are in the creative process to get the most out of the engagement.

I'm the CEO and founder of Oji Life Lab. We provide digital learning programs for businesses.

What challenge were you trying to address with Milkshake Studio?

We were a brand new company, building our first products, and we needed to design the products and everything from the interaction design to the visuals, knew that we'd also want to build a web presence that would be consistent with those. We were looking for a design firm that could fulfill all of those components.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

At a high level, they had to design a mobile portal for iOS/Android, while also building our website. The mobile aspect included different learning elements, a content library, and a chat function.

What is the team composition?

We had three main points of contact, including two of their principals and one of their designers.

How did you come to work with Milkshake Studio?

We met them through a friend of a friend. I liked their work a lot, and their size, in that they were big enough to have some real capacity, while also being small enough that we could get their attention. We got to know them a little bit and liked the chemistry with them personally.

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested approximately $75,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together in June 2018, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our customers love the product and we get feedback that it's visually appealing, professional, and polished. We get consistently positive feedback that the product is well designed.

How did Milkshake Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

They're really well organized. They use Asana to track all of their projects, and we have a shared Slack channel, and they're really good about communicating what they plan to do and when they're going to do it. It's a very well-coordinated operation. They've been consistently on schedule. We've really never had issues with them getting work done and they've been able to maintain a standard of quality. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're very good at visually expressing the brand we're creating, and they've been great partners in understanding and developing it. They take our input and designs and have the commitment to transform it into something even better.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, we love working with them and that's why we keep working together.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Like with any agency relationship, getting to know the designers, making sure they understand the goal and ensuring they're the right team for that goal is key.

I am the CMO at a residential & commercial cleaning company headquartered in New York City. Out company has over 200 employees and we serve clients in urban areas such as NYC, Chicago, and DC. I oversee our marketing and product relationships.

For what projects/services did your company hire Milkshake Studio?

Our company website was created in 2012 and had not been updated since. We had noticed a steady decline in traffic to the site over the past couple of years as well as a change in the mix of traffic towards mobile. We decided to invest in a mobile responsive website along with a brand refresh.w

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to take advantage of the increased mobile traffic as well as increase our overall traffic for the new year. Our old website solely focused on residential business so we also wanted to add a commercial business section to our site for potential clients to submit commercial quotes.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We researched over a thousand different Dribbble profiles and received tens of recommendations from other business acquaintances. From there, five agencies made the cut. After contacting each agency and listening to each pitch, proposal, and pricing, we decided to go with Milkshake.

The project consisted of rebranding and a mobile responsive website that focused both on residential as well as our commercial business.

What was the team composition?

It was a small team of 4, primarily headed by the partners of the agency, Alex and Simon.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We nearly doubled our website traffic as well as improve our conversion rate. This resulted in >40% increase in new customer acquisition.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Love working with them. They are responsible, responsive, and professional. When working out any issues, they always ask insightful questions to get to the core issues that need to be solved.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It's a small team with the talent most large agencies profess to have.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Since it is a small team, you will need to review their work for small items/ proof reading. Their strength is in getting things done but not necessarily crossing the t's and dotting the i's.
