I’m the associate director of the Synthetic Turf Council. We’re a non-profit trade association representing the synthetic turf industry.

What challenge were you trying to address with metafour?

We needed help with our overall marketing efforts, including digital marketing, social media, communications, SEO, and Google Ads.

What was the scope of their involvement?

metafour manages our profiles on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn as well as our LinkedIn group. They also provide our overall social media strategy.

Every month, metafour is responsible for delivering a social post for each platform with a branded image and call to action. This is to help our site’s SEO and meet our analytics goals. We just went through a rebranding, and metafour was a big part of that along with the ensuing communication. 

They also help us create long- and short-term communication plans. They’ve reviewed our member communications, including our newsletters and webinars. They also monitor our website, SEO, and Google Ads daily. We have only a small budget for PPC, but it was important to maintain this service for us.

What is the team composition?

We have one point of contact but have worked with up to three other team members on different designs and communication.

How did you come to work with metafour?

We found them through word-of-mouth from a mutual colleague, which is the best way in my experience. metafour was also local to Atlanta, which made it a good local connection. As a trade association and organization based on volunteers, we went through a board approval process that included a full RFP process and search, but we still ended up going with metafour.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve budgeted $25,000 for the year.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We look at website analytics and set goals on our member engagement and retention, which are on the forefront of our minds as a trade association. We wanted to increase the number of people reading our communication, responding to social media, and registering for events and webinars. 

We’ve achieved our goals so far, and that’s been directly influenced by our communications and calendar put together by metafour. Their overall services are extremely adaptive to immediate needs. We’re seeing a positive ROI in our Google Ads despite our small budget. Regular monitoring saves us money while letting us reach a larger audience.

How did metafour perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve used several platforms all based on current needs. We started on Asana because it was easy and robust. We’ve since changed methods based on our current environment and regular communications.

metafour has helped us adapt and met our needs to communicate things more directly and regularly. Our meetings are always summarized in minutes following the meeting, making all action items, expectations, and roles for everyone clear. That’s helped our organization be more effective while saving time and resources — which is important with a small staff.

What did you find most impressive about them?

metafour is very good at listening. We have a very positive dynamic with them. Every meeting advances our prior discussions and ideas. There’s very little backtracking or revisiting. It always feels like we’re building on our progress and achievements. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t say right now. Any time we reach out to ask for help, it’s our responsibility to tell them what we need. Any issues have been addressed quickly and to our satisfaction.

Any advice for potential customers?

Their strongpoint is listening, but it’s your responsibility to communicate what you expect and what the stakeholders are. They’re good at offering an outside perspective on the information you give them.

We needed help with our marketing and brand awareness.

What was the scope of their involvement?

metafour directed all digital marketing including our social media. Their team didn’t run our accounts but helped curate our aesthetics and content. SEO efforts. They also managed SEO and PPC initiatives, which their team directed via Google Ads. They provided analytics for those initiatives monthly. Their team also did grassroots marketing for us by planning local events. They also helped us to create content for our website.

What is the team composition?

We had two main points of contact: Nina (Founding Partner and Creative Director) and Addison (Founding Partner and Head of Product). One other person from their team supported our project too.

How did you come to work with metafour?

One of my employees introduced us. We tried a few other marketing agencies but had a problem with a lack of communication and personal investment in our company. metafour made an effort to communicate with us and invest in us.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $65,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2019. We’re terminating the engagement because a company with a marketing team invested in us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our main concern was getting our cost per lead down. As we completed more work with metafour, our cost-per-lead decreased progressively. They also increased the number of leads that we got per month. Their team took our feedback and implemented the changes that we wanted. Their team also cared about our business and our success for us, not necessarily for their sake. They invested in our company.

How did metafour perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated through email typically. If there was a pressing issue, they shot us a text or call. Their team was personal and communicated frequently, which was a plus. With past companies, we just got monthly reports. We never had someone reaching out personally or asking about a campaign's performance. metafour was communicative, talking with us almost every day. Their team also had personal experience with our services. They weren't a third-party who pretended to know who we are.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We have a great relationship. metafour made an effort to care about our business and its success. They made the relationship more of a friendship than a business partnership. That effort makes it easier to want to work with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not necessarily. Everyone can improve but metafour works hard and it’s apparent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open to communication. They’ll invest in you, so invest in them too. Make sure to communicate as much as they need to make the engagement successful.

They built us an entirely new website from scratch. They acted as a strategic partner, and they helped us find ways to handle various marketing situations. They did some content development for us, as well as all the front- and backend development. Now that the site is live, they maintain it and continue to help with our digital strategy.

Another business referred them to us, and we were very pleased with their customer service. They discussed creative options with us, and we felt very comfortable working with them.

We started working together around December 2017. They completed the site around July 2018, and they still support us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website attracts great feedback, and our customers find it easy to use. We added a payment option that allows customers to pay by credit card on the website, which is extremely helpful. Our information is much more accessible, navigation is much better, and the site looks extremely professional. They captured our vision perfectly, and we've seen an uptick in business.

We had multiple meetings throughout the process, and we communicated primarily through phone and email.

Their customer service really won us over, and their communication was great.
