I am a clinical research associate at a New York City-based non-profit focusing on eradicating addiction and substance abuse.

What challenge were you trying to address with Melty Cone Video?
We were awarded a grant by the National Institute on Drug Abuse as part of a research project that is developing training vignettes and mock therapy sessions for therapists working with adolescents and families. We needed the input of a production company to help us with those therapy vignettes.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
The original aim was to do 40 videos that are about 5-7 minutes long, but we may end up with more than 40. We have actual family therapists acting as such in the videos, but Melty Cone helped with the casting of other actors to play the roles of family members. They have been integral in finding certain ethnicities and sexes that we want to be represented. Further, they have assisted with script writing, set design, and all post-production work.
What is the team composition?
On a day-to-day basis, we work with the two owners. On production days, there are an additional six people. In post-production, we have one person managing all edits.
How did you come to work with Melty Cone Video?
We interviewed and received quotes from a number of video production companies in the New York City area. Melty Cone Video offered the best price, especially given that we are working with limited funds. We also appreciated that they were willing to work with our particular vision, as opposed to other companies that appeared to be strict about following their own vision.
How much have you invested with them?
Our contract is for about $38,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working together in March 2018, and we anticipate concluding the videos and edits by October 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We do not yet know how effective the videos will be toward our goals of helping therapists, but the quality of the videos has been impressive.
How did Melty Cone Video perform from a project management standpoint?
The owners have been professional and willing to explain all matters to us in a way that resonates with us because we have no experience with video production. If we had any concerns, they were quick to address them.
Throughout the project, they have been patient with us. We’re a small team, and we have other responsibilities within our office besides these videos, so there were instances when we couldn’t meet deadline ourselves, but they were always willing to accommodate our schedule. Additionally, they were sometimes behind in their own production responsibilities, but we knew this was a long-term project, so minor delays were not a detriment to the project.
What did you find most impressive about them?
More than anything, we appreciated their patience and their professionalism.
Any advice for potential customers?
It was important for us to ask as many questions as we needed to feel comfortable, and we were very clear about the cost.

I’m the CEO at Roomored. We’re a B2B platform that sells software to large homebuilders. We create real photo models of every home that homebuilders sell. Our software allows buyers to select every finish option and have a never-before design experience for their dream home.

What was the scope of their involvement?
I’ve worked with Lucas (Executive Producer and Partner, Melty Cone Video) twice. I worked with him a year ago on another video.
I provided the starting point and we worked together to develop a script. They created a complicated video. It was a large engagement. There was filming involved and a lot of post-production because there were many on-screen graphics and the special effects had to be appropriated.
What is the team composition?
I worked with the director, the cameraman, the post-production person, and the person who did special effects.

I was introduced to Lucas by a mutual acquaintance. I considered a few companies, but Lucas appreciates what we’re doing and understands the vision. It’s only once they understand it that they can communicate it in a video.

I'm the principal of St. Joseph High School. We're an all-girl Catholic High School located in Brooklyn, New York. Our population tends to be children of immigrants and we have 100% graduation rate and college acceptance rate. Over the past year, our students were awarded over $15 million in scholarships.

What challenge were you trying to address with Melty Cone Video?
Even though our high school is 114 years old, it's often referred to as the best known secret in downtown Brooklyn. We don't want to be known as “the best known secret” when we're working on enrollment. I wanted to create a video that would go over our history and mission, but also convey our vision for the future. I was looking for a video company to help us.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We had an in-depth discussion and an interview, during which they learnt about our history and asked us questions that formed the basis for the video. Then, they helped us develop a storyboard and a script. They were able to do the entire shoot in one day to keep our costs down: they filmed several of our students, our marketing director, and myself. When we decided to add a part about a famous alumnus that graduated from our school, Melty Cone was very accommodating and adjusted the schedule. After we get this last piece of the video, we should have the final product.
What is the team composition?
We had 4–5 members of their team on the day of the shoot, and two people came for the initial interview.
How did you come to work with them?
I searched for various video companies online. I saw that Melty Cone did videos for a charter school and I thought they'd be a good fit for us since many charter schools are copying our model. Also, I was trying to keep the costs down and Melty Cone offered me several pricing options and explained what exactly I'd get with each option.

We started working with them in May 2018 and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We have a rough cut, which we shared with other people when we were looking for recommendations on how to improve it. Everyone who saw the video loved it. It's so effective that it's even made people cry.
How did they perform from a project management standpoint?
They're very professional, organized, and responsive. When I send them an email, they get back to me within the same day. In addition, they're accepting of our feedback: when we first started, we helped guide them as to what we saw the video would be and they were flexible with changing the script and the layout of the storyboard.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They deeply care about the video and the way it'll come out. They realize that we serve poor population and some of our students live in homeless shelters, so they care about getting it right, while also staying within our budget. Even though I chose the lowest of their pricing options, they were very efficient and did an excellent job.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can't think of anything.

Think well in advance of what product you're looking for. That's helpful when you answer their questions about who you are as an organization and what message you want to get across.
