Habitat For Humanity Website Redesign Image

Habitat For Humanity Website Redesign

Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis believes in a world where everyone has a decent place to live. A nonprofit organization that builds homes, communities and most of all, hope, they are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally by utilizing a comprehensive program in which hard-working local families invest their time into building and purchasing their own home. Learn more by reading our website redesign case

study.

DISCOVERY

Habitat for Humanity St. Louis provides an opportunity for families living in a substandard rental housing to help build and then purchase a home they can afford to maintain. Having had the same website for nearly a decade, they were looking to overhaul its fractured layout, cumbersome CMS, and often confusing donation API. Habitat St. Louis reached out to us to incorporate the updated branding of the national affiliate into a new, mobile-friendly that not only reflected their mission but brought the goals of increasing donations and volunteers up to date with the rest of the non-profit world.

DESIGN

The national branch of Habitat for Humanity underwent a brand refresh recently, and as Habitat St. Louis is essentially a franchise of that brand, we were bound to follow the new color and typographic schemes. However, this was not a limiting factor for us at all, as it allowed us to think less about different color and type combinations, and more about the concepts the related to and worked well with the particular colors chosen from the nationally provided palette.

Mak Grills Website Redesign & Branding Image

Mak Grills Website Redesign & Branding

MAK Grills is truly a labor of love built of sweat, steal, and genuine American Dreams, located in the picturesque rolling hills of Dallas, OR. A family-owned company, MAK began humbly at an already thriving metalworking company as the side project to make a pellet smoker and grill company that truly put quality and customer service at the core of who they are. Read our website redesign & branding case study for Mak

Grills.

DISCOVERY

Upon discovering pellet grilling, they instantly loved the idea of precision-control and genuine smoke flavor but had long been disappointed by models that kept falling short of what they knew a pellet grill could be. At MAK, their grills are designed without cutting any corners to be nothing short but best-in-class, reaching the peak balance of temperature control and real smoke flavor.

This attention to detail is apparent in everything they do from the factory floor to customer service and was one of the main drivers in many of our branding and conceptual design decisions.

STRATEGIZE

Grilling is one of the truly universal human experiences, transcending all demographics and bridging all sorts of social, economic and even ideological divides for many reasons, but primarily b/c gathering around food cooking over a fire is a primal experience dating back to cave-side open fires. That said, the American approach to and experience of grilling is one that is truly unique in the world, and is deeply ingrained in our psyche and popular culture.

Imperial Headware

Since its inception in 1916, Imperial Sports has made—and continues to make—the best fitting golf hats. It was time for an E-Commerce Development.

Imperial Sports initially came to us looking for website updates and they wanted to add e-commerce capabilities to their business-to-business (B2B) website. Soon after, their president decided that Imperial should be going after consumers in a business-to-consumer (B2C)

context. That said, we shifted our focus from a B2B site to a B2C one.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP and general secretary at MT Audio Group Inc, a vinyl records and high-end audio equipment retailer. We plan to branch out into other areas down the road, such as importing or distribution.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

Our main challenge was to establish a robust web presence that would enable us to get into unique market niches. We wanted to build the e-commerce end of our business to expand our corporation beyond brick and mortar. My company had an outdated website that didn’t have the e-commerce components we wanted. We needed a website that would be easy for customers to use and enable us to manage our inventory and shipping.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Matchbox Design Group built a custom WordPress website and integrated it with WooCommerce.  They customized the site to all of the specifications and needs that we laid out during preliminary calls and meetings. When Matchbox Design Group did the design work, we showed them components of competitors’s sites that we liked and disliked.

Matchbox Design Group set up the site in such a way that allows my team to split the product groups between the vinyl LPs and audio hardware sides of our business. They also built a blog space, where we can upload blog posts and reviews. We can link product information to the blog, and vice versa.

We launched the beta version of the site, and then they had the site running a month later. They provide ongoing site maintenance.

What is the team composition?

We work with Colby (Project Coordinator and Photographer, Matchbox Design Group), Cullen (Co-Founder and Director of Development, Matchbox Design Group), and Brent (Co-Founder and Director of Design, Matchbox Design Group). They're our three main points of contact, but we’ve worked with everybody at Matchbox Design Group.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

I have a background in the computing industry, so I laid out parameters for the website and its technologies.  My company researched local vendors and narrowed it down to 4–5 firms that we met with. We considered each firm’s depth of knowledge, how many sites they’d developed, and if they worked with similar businesses.

Matchbox Design Group wasn’t the most inexpensive or expensive option, but they offered the best value for money and proved their capabilities. During the selection process, we had a lot of face-to-face meetings with them.

How much have you invested with them?

The site design cost about $15,000. We also pay Matchbox Design Group a monthly fee for regular maintenance and updates.

What is the status of this engagement?

The site build spanned October 2018–February 2019, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website is visually different and bold, so it really grabs a viewer’s attention. From a usability standpoint, we can input a lot of product information. The site not only looks great but is also versatile; it gives us a lot of capabilities to do things like specials and featured products.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Matchbox Design Group performs exceptionally well in this regard. During the site build, Colby got things done; if they had issues or got backed up, she always told us. She kept her team engaged and got them from point A to point B. Cullen always found a way to make stuff work. We communicated with them easily. They used Asana for support.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What impresses me the most is Matchbox Design Group’s capabilities and track record with other businesses. They’re always great to work with, fun to be around, and attentive to what we’re trying to accomplish. The quality of their work is amazing, and they’re one of the best teams of people I’ve worked with.

Matchbox Design Group’s team is young and vibrant, and they know what they’re doing. They take care of their customers exceptionally well. We always know we will be taken care of; even though they have lots of other customers, they treat us like we’re their most important customer. If they make a mistake, they take responsibility for their actions.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, transitions can be a bit disorganized. They could be more proactive, but that’s pretty minuscule. I really haven’t had any issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Do it. Based on how they take care of customers, listen, and work, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell someone to hire them. Other companies may be cheaper, but Matchbox Design Group will give you the absolute best value for your money.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Our company sells scientific instruments to scientists. I’m in charge of all marketing and online services.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

Before I came onboard, Matchbox Design Group was hired to create a website and manage SEO to make it easy for our business to be found.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

All the web development happened before I joined the company. For SEO, their team drafted keywords to help us optimize the site. They also give us a monthly report with findings.

What is the team composition?

I think their team has about six to seven people. Brent (Owner, Matchbox Design Group) is in charge, but I mainly talk with Rachel (Digital Strategist, Matchbox Design Group).

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

Matchbox Design Group was hired before I started working here. But I think their office being in the same town as us was a big part of it.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement with Matchbox Design Group began in October 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Matchbox Design Group has helped our business become more findable. I heard everyone was pleased with the website their team created. The site has no errors. With keywords, we’re becoming the first hit people see when they search. I’ve been told that users are also more likely to go directly to our product pages, which is great. All the reports are getting better and better.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management style is pretty great. I use Basecamp, and the right team member picks up on who needs to do what. Sometimes we’re waiting on each other, but their team is definitely responsive.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I don’t have anything to compare them to, but they’ve been great. Matchbox Design Group has been extremely patient with me.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their communication could improve. I may need to ask for better communication, but there have been times that I haven’t worked out what I needed to say or what they needed to hear.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the business manager for a health and fitness association.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

We initially reached out to Matchbox Design Group to develop our website, followed by some digital marketing services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Matchbox Design Group designed and developed our website from scratch, uploading workout information and photos for our members to access different fitness routines. They also provided some digital marketing services as needed.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a group of individuals, chatting over the phone regularly throughout the project. Someone on our team was also able to visit their office to meet in person a couple of times.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

The president of our association had heard of them, so we invited them to submit a proposal during our RFP process and, ultimately, liked their pricing and presentation.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from around May–November 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I don't have any metrics to report yet, but overall Matchbox Design Group met or exceeded our expectations on all deliverables. They turned our ideas into a high-quality website while providing great input to help improve the final product.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very understanding and patient when it came to walking us through the process. We communicated through email and phone but also used a project management software to track milestones, which allowed us to comment on iterations.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very responsive and delivered a high-quality product that met our deadline.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There's nothing that I know of that they could've done differently.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the SEO and web content marketing manager at a moving company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Matchbox Design Group?

We hired them to update our templates and complete an interactive map project.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to increase our ranking, traffic, and conversions while improving our UX. The map tool needed to provide an interactive asset that users could share widely for PR purposes.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We had a prior relationship. During introductory meetings, we were impressed by their knowledge and ability to speak intelligently about coding, content, and SEO. We also looked at their online reviews, website, and portfolio.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They restructured our pages, content, design elements, and links. They retooled our map tool to be mobile and user-friendly, then integrated a CMS component for easy internal updates. They also handled development work, wrote content, and consulted on the design, UX, and SEO.

What was the team composition?

We had a project manager, multiple developers, an SEO and content strategist, a copywriter, and a graphic designer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We're still gathering data for the template updates, but the map asset was shared and used by many people. The map page had many impressions and became integral to the success of the campaign.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We used Basecamp, which was completely user-friendly. Our communication spanned multiple methods, including email, phone calls, and Slack. That probably created gaps, but they always responded within one day.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I could rely on their key leaders to call me back if I had an issue. They were extremely friendly, kind, and smart, and their knowledge of SEO and development was exceptional.

Are there any areas for improvement?

They should streamline their communication channels and QA process.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the operations manager at MAK Grills.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

We wanted to work with a company who could build and drive traffic to our website, answer customers' questions about our product, and ensure a smooth e-commerce pathway for our customers to make purchases.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Matchbox Design Group came to our location in Oregon to conduct a photo shoot for the company. They took and edited professional pictures of our employees and the work we do here to add to the website.

After creating a sitemap, they helped us develop and roll out a new website for our products.  They designed the site to be seamless. For our branding, they changed some wording in our copy. They applied a consistent theme and messaging to the overall website. Since it launched, they’ve been running SEO and social media marketing campaigns.

What is the team composition?

We have four main contacts from Matchbox Design Group. I work with them at least 3–4 times monthly during the website development process and once or twice each month on our digital marketing campaigns since it went live.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

I spent a lot of time researching local vendors in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. When I couldn't find a team locally I wanted to work with, I broadened my search and found Matchbox Design Group.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent around $50,000 so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working together since November 2016.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We're extremely happy with the results of our new website and the volume of traffic it has been receiving. Our customers can now contact us through our site. As a direct-to-consumer business, being able to interface with our customers through this platform has been exponentially better than what we had before.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Matchbox Design Group's responsiveness and correspondence are phenomenal. They set deadlines and committed to them. Using filesharing and Basecamp makes it much easier to collaborate.

The team is very professional and excels at maintaining communication. It’s easy to get ahold of and talk with them. We generally correspond via phone and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The level of commitment and energy Matchbox Design Group brings to the project has really blown me away. I could tell that they were extremely excited to work with us across the board. They're highly motivated, stick to commitments, and ensure clients receive the best customer service possible.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, there's nothing that I can think of.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Utilize Matchbox Design Group's passion and engagement in the project to the fullest.

Various sets of donations increased substantially through the improved website. Matchbox Design Group’s dedication to the project and client were noteworthy. Their skilled team performs responsively and delivers exceptional work. Expect an enjoyable engagement with them.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the general manager at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I operate two retail facilities where we take in donations of new and use remodeling supplies and sell them to the public at a discount. We use those funds to build Habitat for Humanity homes in the area.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

With nonprofits, marketing is generally a challenge because of its expense. One of the more cost-effective means of communication is through a website. Our website was last redesigned in 1997. We had to change that.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Matchbox Design Group updated our website with a personal touch. Many people think of Habitat for Humanity as a home building service; they don’t think of the families that go into those homes. Their team focused our site around that.

I wanted a website where users can get anywhere in the site within three clicks. Their team improved navigation and functionality. They made it easier for users to schedule a donation pickup.

During the process, we had three meetings where we went over artwork, design, and other functionalities, making sure we were all on the same page. Matchbox Design Group now provides maintenance when needed.

What is the team composition?

My primary contacts were Brent (Owner, Matchbox Design Group) and Cullen (Owner, Matchbox Design Group).

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

I sent out a request for proposals, contacting five local companies. I chose three to come in and speak to a larger group within the organization. There were two proposals made to us, and the one Matchbox presented felt like it was made for us, which is a massive difference. They listened to what we needed and understood. They have worked with other nonprofits prior, and put together appealing concepts and artwork.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent approximately $23,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2017 to May 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Through our website, donations were from 30 per month to 161 per month. There was a significant increase in financial gifts-in-kind contributions as well.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Matchbox Design Group catered to us, delivering a product that exceeded expectations. We enjoyed working with them.

The longest we had to wait for anything was 24 hours. If an urgent issue came up, their team worked hard to get it fixed immediately. Right before a fundraiser, the form for selling tickets wasn’t operating as expected. Matchbox Design Group fixed it within two hours.

It was a great choice to work with Matchbox Design Group. If you can find fun in your work, that’s always a good thing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Other than the performative website, Matchbox Design Group’s work throughout the whole project was fantastic. It’s hard to articulate, but comparing them to other providers, their team knew what they were doing and knew what we wanted. That was the reason we went with Matchbox Design Group.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They were trying out a new client correspondence system, and we were one of the first clients to use it. By the end of our engagement, our team had an excellent grasp utilizing the software and collaborating efficiently. But a little more instruction could’ve been had in the beginning. That’s the only criticism I’ve had during the entire process.

Any advice for potential customers?

Bring Matchbox Design Group into the room and let them do their pitch, it’s well worth it. There’s no risk involved, and if they approach it the same way as they approached us, customers will be more than satisfied.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a marketing manager for Progressive Recovery. We’re an engineering and manufacturing firm that specializes in fluid and waste processing systems.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

We initially hired them to redesign our websites. With that project complete, we’re currently having them lead our SEO efforts.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started this project by providing Matchbox Design Group with a list of terms that we wanted to rank well on search engines. They’ve integrated those keywords into the content that appears on our website. They primarily oversee our blog posts, press releases, and product pages. As a result, we’re able to leverage content that directs people to our site. This improves the site’s ability to support our products appropriately.

What is the team composition?

I know their owner from past projects, so I interact with him a bit. However, they allocated a project coordinator as our primary point of contact. That person supervises the digital strategist that works on our SEO.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

I found them by doing a quick Google search while I worked for a different company. Once the web redesign project was approved, Matchbox Design Group came to my mind as a viable option. We considered several firms, but they stood apart from the other candidates by communicating a consultative approach. We hired them for that reason.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2015 and the engagement is ongoing.

Our websites were outdated and stagnating when I first joined the company. Bringing in Matchbox Design Group to reinvigorate our web presence has been a huge success thus far. Their work doubled if not quadrupled the number of leads generated by our websites. Implementing their SEO principles into our content increased our brand’s relevancy on Google. They brought us from having little online influence to ranking at the top of applicable searches.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re responsive and do an excellent job of keeping the project on track. They use Basecamp to store all of our correspondence, which I find super convenient. The tool enables me to quickly post updates that the whole group will see. This facilitates natural collaborations and file sharing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Other agencies will complete projects precisely as requested and won’t offer original ideas. That’s not how Matchbox Design Group operates. They provide an engaging and unique experience instead of just developing products per a checklist. Their proactive and creative approach contributes to our continued success. I also appreciate their willingness to offer advice on a variety of topics. They frequently present new concepts and aren’t discouraged if we don’t accept a pitch. Their team enjoys brainstorming and are capable of leading the ideation process. Overall, they’re good people that make each project fun.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I’ve had positive experiences with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communicate the project’s goal before outlining what the project will be. Creating an open-ended environment for the engagement may allow Matchbox Design Group to deliver better solutions.

The new site was well-received internally and externally for its improved design and increased usability. Matchbox Design kept the project moving (and on budget) through constant communication, providing critical status updates and guidance throughout the engagement.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I worked for Southwestern Illinois College. I oversaw everything to do with the website and internet activities.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

The website we’d built in-house was really outdated. It wasn’t responsive or mobile-friendly. As a community college, it’s a huge site. There are multiple audiences because we offer programs servicing everyone from toddlers to senior citizens. Additional challenges were our tight budget and the need for Board approval before the project could get started.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We didn’t want to be locked into a platform. The cost for the previous website was going up every year, so we wanted the ability to move it elsewhere if needed. They suggested using the WordPress platform. We moved all of our content to the new site in order to save money. They also structured the site to improve SEO.

What is the team composition?

We had one main contact and there were about 3–4 members on the team.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

They reached out to us while we were looking at various firms. The bids we'd been getting were way over our budget. We chose Matchbox because they were very accommodating and understood our budget constraints. They were able to scale back their proposal to match our budget, and still promised to give us a great website. It was something we could afford and the Board would approve.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January–July 2016.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everybody loves the site because the look is more modern and it’s easier to use. The administrative assistants who’ve been trained to maintain content for the site say it’s so much easier than what they had to do before. Matchbox has created the ability to edit directly from the page versus going into the backend of the site. It’s a much easier process for those who have little or no HTML experience.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They stay on top of everything. During the engagement, one of my team went on maternity leave so I was the only one working on the project from the college. Matchbox was super helpful with the situation and were very patient with me. They responded quickly when I had questions. They didn’t give us a hard timeline because so much was dependent on us moving the content. Once we were ready, they had it live within a few days.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re easy to work with. They provided a lot of insight into why things are structured the way they are. They gave us guidance with website design. They were accommodating with certain design features that we wanted. They were so nice to work with.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Start with a concept of what you want your website to be, look, and function. Be open to their ideas because they’ve done this before and they know what works.

Feedback summary:

The substance of Matchbox Design Group’s work drew stellar reviews, but there was a slight delay on their end in the redesigned website’s launch. The firm’s openness and honesty in the face of such challenging times earned them respect – and a positive review overall – in the end.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Oates Associates is a civil structural engineering firm. Our work focuses on roadways, bridges, culverts, and building sites.  As the marketing coordinator, I handle all advertising activities and oversee business development.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design Group?

Our outdated website was neither user-friendly nor responsive. It lacked organizational features and often failed to function properly. I couldn’t update it without an error occurring.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They redesigned and added features to our WordPress site. New search and sort functions categorize results by market and service type.  During in-depth branding strategy discussions, we decided to refresh our marketing assets. They helped us formulate a new logo, color scheme, stationary, and layout.

What is the team composition?

Initially, we worked with two resources. Our main point of contact checked in periodically. A third employee took notes during meetings and liaised between our two firms. There were usually 3-5 people at our branding and development meetings, respectively.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design Group?

We found them through an online search several years ago, the last time we updated our site. Back then, we worked with another firm and wanted a new partner this time. Matchbox Design Group’s knowledge of design and security is unsurpassed by any other firm we’d contacted. They knew exactly how to execute the best new iteration for our site.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $50,000–$100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

They started the redesign in August 2017 and launched our site that December.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everyone loves the new site and branding. We have nothing but positive feedback for the design, navigation, and UX/UI. This redesign was long overdue, and they implemented the right changes to bring our materials into the current century. We’re especially pleased with the new stationary.  Sorting our types of services by category helps users find specific projects they’re looking for.

How did Matchbox Design Group perform from a project management standpoint?

Due to breakdowns in communication, we missed our initial October 2017 deadline. Matchbox Design Group’s principal personally addressed this issue. Their assigned management resource was responsible for timeline adherence. When they became unresponsive, it stalled the process and pushed back the launch date through November into December.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were pleased with the firm’s leaders. They addressed any issues we incurred honestly and openly. Even when these problems arose internally, like differences in design opinions, they’d call with suggestions to mitigate the situation. We appreciated that feedback.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Matchbox Design Group could definitely work on their communication.  The requirements we expressed in meetings didn’t always translate into actual revisions, which could be frustrating.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Hold them accountable but respect their design capabilities and rationale. Take notes during meetings so you have a record and description of things that aren’t to your liking. Don’t be shy about expressing industry-specific needs that aren’t included in the product.

Feedback summary:

Matchbox met deadlines and created a sleek finished product. Employees and customers like the site, saying it's easier to navigate and better represents the brand. Some communication issues stemmed from a vague scope conceptualization, but they were dealt with later in the project.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the market development manager for Engineered Corrosion Solutions. Until recently, I was in charges of both marketing efforts and the development of our website.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Matchbox Design?

Our old site was outdated and had poor UX/UI; people couldn’t find the information on it that they wanted. We needed a firm to help redevelop our website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Matchbox completely redesigned our site, making it more sales-oriented. Our old site was more educational, teaching visitors about the fire protection industry and issues related to corrosion and fire sprinkler systems. We found people were more interested in how to control corrosion and implement solutions, so Matchbox geared the site to those kinds of questions.

They did graphic design work, changing the entire aesthetic except our logo. They created a new color palette for the WordPress site and made it much more user-friendly. We aren’t selling anything on the site yet, since our services are mainly B2B and require quite a bit of technical expertise in order to identify the best solution. However, we do have a few products that would do well in e-commerce, so that’s our next step with Matchbox.

They currently do SEO, as well.

What is the team composition?

We had a project manager, graphic design lead, two backend specialists, and someone in charge of the big picture and initial development. The project manager was our main point of contact.

How did you come to work with Matchbox Design?

We found Matchbox online. We were initially looking for an SEO company in the St. Louis area, so we could have a personal face-to-face interaction. We wanted a company that did their own SEO well, and Matchbox consistently appeared at the top for firms in St. Louis.

At first, we just wanted SEO help, but we realized our outdated site was going to make that extremely difficult. That’s when we decided to do SEO and a site redesign with Matchbox.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $25,000–$50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from October 2017–February 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Everyone in the company is happy with the new site—it represents our company much better. Our customers have also given lots of positive feedback, saying it’s easier to navigate and find the information they want. We haven’t had any major bugs or issues with it either.

How did Matchbox Design perform from a project management standpoint?

They met all our deadlines, although we did have some minor communication issues.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Overall, we’re happy and impressed with the finished product. The new site looks modern and greatly improves the UX for our customers.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would have been nice to be more detailed in the initial conceptualization of the scope. For example, they didn’t include a printer friendly aspect or search bar functionality to the site, which we later realized we wanted. It would’ve been good to know about those features upfront instead of during the middle of the build.
