The SaaS company I work for provides a management software to nonprofits to help them organize member and donor information and complete other tasks.

I'm the Content Manager for our blog. We write articles on how to run nonprofits in the hopes that readers will find our information useful and look into our software.

For what projects/services did your company hire Mandel Marketing, and what were your goals?

We hired Phil to have his in-house writers write for our blog. The original goal was to have them write about four articles for us per week, though that number has since decreased.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

A freelance editor we used to use recommended Mandel Marketing to us. She was a valuable asset, so we trusted her judgment and reached out to Phil. From there, Phil did a trial article to see if his team would be a good fit...and he was!

1. Members of our marketing team (including myself) prepare briefs for every keyword we want to target. The briefs detail heading breakdown, target audience, related keywords, and other article elements.
2. Phil's writers use these briefs to research and write articles.
3. Phil reviews the written articles before sending them to me.
4. I read the articles and leave comments for any changes I want made.
5. The writers address my comments.
6. I do one final review of the articles before we publish them.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I only communicate with Phil (the co-founder) directly. I believe he has two writers now, but, at one point, there were three.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

For the past two months, organic traffic to our blog has increased every week. As we have other writers, this isn't 100% coming from his team's work. However, he's definitely a contributing factor.

As I said previously, I only communicate with Phil directly. He uses email to ask any questions he has. If his writers have any questions, they funnel them through him, and then he asks me. The writers do address my comments, so I have some indirect communication with them.

Mandel Marketing is timely in addressing my requests. I've never had to nudge them to remind them to speed up the tasks.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Working with so many freelancers, I appreciate that I don't have to communicate with Phil's writers. He takes over that management aspect for me. All I have to do is relay my requests to him, and he passes them along to his team.

Along those same lines, he vets his writers before hiring them as employees, so I can trust that they're going to deliver high-quality work.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I wish that he had an editor on his team. The same writer who wrote the article also addresses my comments. Because they wrote the article, they have already done their self-editing, which means that I have to spend extra time editing myself. In a perfect world, a separate editor would address my comments and do their own editing so that I can work through more articles.

I probably spend an extra 30-60 minutes on every article because I have to act as an editor for grammar, fact-checking, etc.

Mandel Marketing I appreciate Phillip helping me to move forward in my business. He reviewed my content and helped me to put it in a format that was relatable, and my potential clients could connect with. He showed off my content to show that I am an expert in my field and showcased my gifts, skills, and talents. They cleaned up my social media and website and made it easy for me to manage the ongoing day-to-day activity. They took my content and added to it so that it was professionally displayed. They also helped me to take baby steps to get comfortable with social media.

I appreciate their personable approach and how they took interest in my company’s success. I truly appreciate their hard work and expertise. They walked me through the basic steps that I needed to move my business forward and for that I am forever grateful that I worked with them.

Chris Perri Law is a boutique criminal firm based in Austin, Texas. We practice statewide and we focus on criminal defense, both at the trial level and at the post-conviction level. For instance, if someone has been incarcerated and feels like they were wrongfully imprisoned, we try to help them as well. We are a family-owned business, and I came on to help with marketing operations.

What challenge were you trying to address with Mandel Marketing?

We were looking to grow our business so we connected with Mandel Marketing for some guidance.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mandel Marketing first helped us explore our brand in a deeper way. We already had a logo and a website, so they guided us through the process of uncovering how we want to approach our marketing, what differentiates us from our competitors, and who our target audience is. They had us compile a lot of data and thoroughly examine our past clients to inform our strategic marketing decisions and align different opportunities with our core identity. 

At the end of that process, Mandel Marketing was able to position us as smart, compassionate, and meticulous lawyers who are all about helping people know their rights. We came up with ideas for articles that not only aligned with that mission and set of core values but also executed our SEO strategy. I wrote up the articles, and Phil (Owner) would edit them to make sure they were clear, targeted, and optimized.

Mandel Marketing also focused on paid searches, earned media, and other strategies to get our name out there. They provided Google Ads and social media marketing services as well as some sales coaching to make sure that we were getting in front of potential clients for the right niche legal practices.

What is the team composition?

We mostly work with Phil, who’s our main point of contact. He coaches us and coordinates our advertisements. Another member has recently joined in to help us with the social media aspect of the project. 

How did you come to work with Mandel Marketing?

Phil and I went to grad school together and met in a creative writing program. I knew that he did advertising and was successful in his work at our local paper in Austin, so I’ve kept in touch with him since. Around the same time that I needed support, he was moving into this new role, so I reached out.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around January–February 2020. Our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve seen a massive improvement. Mandel Marketing has been so helpful and essential to the process of coming up with a marketing plan. The amount of visitors to our website has increased ten-fold. Getting people to our website has also helped double our profit.

How did Mandel Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

Mandel Marketing’s services are very tailored. They really take the time, especially in the beginning, to understand who we are. Everything that we’re currently doing has stemmed from that identity that we dove into. Criminal defense is serious, sensitive work, and their team has been very mindful of making sure that we’re marketing ourselves in the most authentic way to our potential clients. 

We communicate through email and phone. We also use Zoom from time to time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I feel like we can really trust Phil. He listens to me and advises me on which of the many marketing avenues we’ve tried were not bringing in the best ROI. He supports our decisions and always takes into consideration how we feel towards certain ideas or strategies of his. We’re a small business, and where we put our dollars counts. Having someone that we can trust, like Mandel Marketing, is everything. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything at this time. We’ve been so happy with their help.

Take the time to get a really clear picture of who you are and what your business is, even if you think you already know it. I think that will help you focus your efforts and be more productive with Mandel Marketing.

The project's measurable outcomes highlight progress in three key areas: First, we saw a big increase in email sign-ups, with more people subscribing through special offers and content. 
Second, our email campaigns got more engagement, with more people opening and clicking on the emails we sent. Finally, we saw a rise in website visits.

The project management was excellent. They delivered items on time and always quickly responded to my needs. Their communication was clear and efficient, making the entire process smooth. What really stood out was their exceptional customer service. 
Whenever I had questions or needed adjustments, they were always there to help with a positive attitude and a solution-focused approach. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience regarding responsiveness and support.

 What impressed me most about this company was its exceptional interpersonal skills. They made every interaction feel personal and tailored to my needs, ensuring I always felt heard and valued. I also appreciated that I never felt pressured or pushed into making decisions—everything was handled with patience and understanding. 
Their ability to communicate clearly, respond quickly, and provide thoughtful solutions made working with them a positive experience.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Mandel Marketing could have done differently?

We didn’t see the significant boost in sales that I was hoping for, and it might have been helpful to explore additional strategies or tactics to convert the increased interest into actual sales better. However, what specific changes could have been made is unclear, as their overall approach was comprehensive and well-executed. 
That said, time will tell as we plan to implement some new strategies moving forward, especially with the release of our new product in March. I’m optimistic that these adjustments will help drive the results we’re aiming for.
