A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of Curotec, an IT consulting firm that offers e-commerce, software development, system integration, and overall consulting & strategic services. For our customers, we can provide those as an outsourced project, or we can place full-time people at our clients’ locations.
What challenge were you trying to address with Maillie LLP?
We hired Maillie LLP for tax accounting and business advisory.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The services that their team provides are primarily tax accounting & filing, tax strategy, M&A consulting, and general financial strategic consulting. We’ve used them several times to evaluate different acquisitions, and in 2017, they helped us through an actual purchase.
What is the team composition?
We’ve primarily worked with one person. There are a few others on the backend that assist with international tax questions and admin support.
How did you come to work with Maillie LLP?
In 2014, we merged with another organization. Maillie LLP was the firm that they were using for accounting services. We had worked with another firm before Maillie LLP. I wasn’t happy with their service speed, so ultimately, we decided to transition with Maillie LLP.
How much have you invested with them?
Each year, we spend around $15,000–$20,000, depending on if we use extra consulting services.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in February or March 2014.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our point of contact is on top of everything, bringing great ideas to the table. Our company isn’t big enough yet to have a CFO or a controller. But even if we were, we would probably still outsource these accounting services. The team at Maillie LLP is full of great people. They even helped us avoid an acquisition that wasn’t in our best interests.
How did Maillie LLP perform from a project management standpoint?
We usually use email and phone calls to communicate at least once a month. Sometimes we meet in-person. There are times where our teams go two or three months without talking, but it’s usually once a month. Right now, we’re working on R&D credits and tax preparation, so our talks have been weekly or even daily.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The team at Maillie LLP provides a great value. They have a lot of different departments with different specializations. When we have difficult questions that our CPA can’t answer, he has resources internally that can help.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Sometimes it takes a while to hear back from them during tax season. Greg has been pretty responsive recently, but sometimes he gets bogged down with work. They can take a week or two to hear back from when it isn’t an urgent matter. If it’s urgent, they’re pretty quick.
Providing an efficient service, the team at Maillie LLP has their clients’ best interests in mind. While their responsiveness could improve during busy times, their team takes on urgent tasks quickly. Customers can expect a specialized and personable team.
