I’m the president and CEO of HotelRTG Furniture. We supply imported furniture and other products from Asia.

What challenge were you trying to address with MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP?

We had an ordering platform for customers built by a previous developer that was no longer scaling to meet our needs. We brought in MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP to improve the system.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP was able to fix our problems in the system’s code quickly. Initially, after those repairs, a lot of new problems came up. However, they then fixed those at no extra charge.

The system allows users to register a buyer account, enter specifications for the product they’re looking for, and receive a quote. That order then goes to our admin department who sends it to one of our 100 factories under contract with us. 

MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP is now building a database that allows our customers—brand hotels especially—to shop through specific product lines that are pre-approved by those brands. That shortens the buying process for customers—they don’t have to run products by stakeholders before making a purchase. The pricing part still uses our existing system, so the MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP team is working on that now.

In addition, they’re creating online manuals to guide people through the registration process as a buyer or supplier. They also repaired a quality control (QC) portal that’s part of our system.

The project started in April 2019 and is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The platform has made it more efficient for us to operate the company. We’re not marketing our business at the moment because we’re still developing different aspects of the operation system. Once that’s finished, we’ll start working on SEO.

How did MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been very responsive despite the time difference. I’m also used to working with companies in Asia, so our work schedules overlap. They reply to everything within a day. I’m usually the slower party to respond. We communicate over Upwork, Skype calls, and the phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The communication is very good. They speak fluent English and understand everything I request of them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything. Working with them has been a huge benefit for us. They’ve done so much in a short timeframe.

Any advice for potential customers?

Work with Tejas first: he seems to know everything inside and out. If you tell him what your requirements are, he’ll delegate them to the correct person to do the job.

We’re an online bookstore that operates in Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. We’ve been selling books online over the last 10 years. I’m the founder and director of the company.

We were trying to upgrade our system, but we lacked a scalable website. We only operated in one country at that time. When we delved into the next market, the way the website was built generated a lot of errors. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP redeveloped our database and backend in a way that would eliminate the errors we were having. They used ASP.NET web forms and a SQL server. We provided them the frontend HTML code, and they then integrated it with the .NET files. The design was provided by us, and they integrated it with the backend. We work with multiple payment gateways in different countries, and they’ve taken care of those integrations.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked four people working on our site.

How did you come to work with MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP?

I found them on Upwork. We had a large database of 10–20 million books at the time, and we were looking for people who could handle that. MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP’s owner was quite confident that he could do it. We ran a sample test of a few hours’ worth of work. He showed us that a search on those 20 million titles could be returned in a second or less, which was very impressive. That kickstarted things with MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP in mid-2013, and the project took a few months. From there, we’ve added more features, and we rely on their expertise for website maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re definitely satisfied. MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP has taken care of the website well, and a lot of complaints we experienced with our previous vendors have just disappeared. They’ve made things easy, and we can focus on other things.

Our main metric was search engine performance. We have about 20 million books, depending on how different vendors list them. MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP has achieved the best performance in terms of speed: on average, a search is about 1.5 seconds, whereas it used to be 3–4 seconds. They know our database well—that’s what we’ve been most satisfied with.

How did MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP perform from a project management standpoint?

Their director is the kind of person that takes pride in a project. Some of their developers will even do checks without us asking. We’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that they’ve done things well beyond the contract. The way they work is really customer-centric.

We communicate through Skype calls and screen-sharing, and we also share documents for keeping track of the specifications they work on. I also meet with Tejas (Founder, MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP) once every three years in person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tejas knows some of the best SQL server experts in India. Our website is mainly made up of databases and integrating data from different sources on the backend. That’s where MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP’s skill comes in. We’ve reaped the benefits of having them as a partner.

Everything’s been good so far.

It’s important to be transparent with expectations so that MagnusMinds IT Solution LLP can allocate resources accordingly. We’ve prioritized database performance so they can allocate people who are good at that.
