Anton Kats works as an artist and musician. Anton’s practice draws from the everyday, inspired by the complex narratives of Satelite Island a south-Ukrainian neighbourhood in the port city of Kherson. Leaving Ukraine in the year 2000 to claim asylum in Germany Kats’ work is complemented by the urgencies of displacement and the pragmatics of self-legalisation in Europe by way of entering formal institutions of education.
In reverberations of this process, Kats was awarded a practice-based PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London and invited to documenta14 where he initiated the Narrowcast House and the A-Letheia projects.

Our platform is built exclusively online operating via a website as well as mobile apps designed for Android and iOS

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I posted requests for proposals with several portals providing freelancing or IT development services. After interviewing several potential providers we chose to work with LineUp. They convinced us by being flexible in their approach and fast and responsive in their communication. Their portfolio was solid and we could also negotiate favourable terms.

LineUp initially provided us with mockup screens for web and mobile apps based on our specifications. They correctly understood the scope and complexity and provided many useful ideas built into the project. The entire platform was then developed by LineUp from scratch, using e.g. Java, JHipster, MySQL, etc.

We have been in constant interactions with LineUp's CEO throughout the delivery. Our project was supervised by a senior PM and developed by up to 5-6 individuals across design, front, end and mobile dimensions.

We have successfully launched the platform in January 2021 and are in a process of further improving the functionality and user journey

There is never an issue to reach LineUp's reps in case of any problem or if you only need advice. The team is friendly and they have good designers and coders. Most of their PMs are competent and engaged. We used Trello for ticketing (now moved to JIRA) and Telegram/Viber for ongoing communication with multiple video calls at certain milestones

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

LineUp values long-term business relationships and goes the extra mile to keep it. When things are rough, they keep a cool head and possess the ability to find a solution that suits everyone. LineUp aspires to constant improvement and undertakes tangible steps to make their services better. They really work hard to ensure all clients' demands are reasonably met and are offering competitive rates.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I wish there was a better long term planning of the project delivery with more systematic reviews of the milestones. Throughout the delivery a better QC would have helped to avoid much of the time waste and iterations.

Despite the broad scope and complexity of the project, LineUp built a top-tier global solution.

The team always met deadlines, even if doing so required working weekends and non-business hours. The project manager was clear and responsive, and we had weekly Skype meetings. They fixed issues in a professional manner.

LineUp provided a valuable partnership and high-quality work. They were Java experts, which allowed them to understand our project and requirements thoroughly.

Although their software architect was excellent, he did not speak English. A project lead should be able to communicate with clients.

Be clear about the specifications that you want and keep open communication throughout the project. When you receive the UI from them, be reactive and as clear as possible about your amendments.

Speed and hands-on approach to development. Where there is a will, there is a way. This is what me and entire Wrapped Card experienced during the cooperation.

We had an invoicing issue, where one of the instalment were delayed for a week, so the schedule for the final product launch was also postponed. But, in the end of the day, it was on us.
