I'm the president of MindPress Media LLC. We empower authors by helping them establish their publishing platform, professionally design a standout book, develop their author brand, and build a following of devoted readers.

We hired them to design a book cover.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create a professional book cover for independent authors that stood out from the competition in various genres.

How did you select this vendor?

Laura (Principal, Laura Duffy Design) presented her work to a group of aspiring authors. I was so impressed with her style and designs that I hired her to design the cover for my novel. She did a phenomenal job. When I formed my publishing services company, Laura became my senior book designer.

Describe the project in detail.

They designed the cover of a narrative non-fiction book. We needed covers for three formats: hardcover with dust jacket, paperback, and e-book.

What was the team composition?

We had a project manager, a book cover designer, and an interior book designer.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The book has sold around the world and landed the author signings and special talks. It is featured on the Fonkoze website.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was highly effective.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Laura was resourceful and responsive to requests made through email or phone, which is necessary when designing books and meeting deadlines. Her professional, creative designs moved projects forward in a positive and timely fashion.

Are there any areas for improvement?

She could benefit from a junior designer to help with small tasks.

I’m the owner of The Gilded Grape Wine & Spirits, a boutique wine shop located in Brooklyn, New York City. We specialize in spirits and wines crafted in the state.

I’ve known Laura (Art Director, Laura Duffy Design) and her work for a while. She’s professional, honest, and works extremely hard to meet your expectations.

Laura created our logo and web page, along with other advertisements. Currently, she’s working on the weekly email blast that we send to our customers, while also maintaining our website. Furthermore, she’s helped us create various marketing materials such as flyer, banner ads for web campaigns, signage, and more. She is our go-to partner for any design-related work.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Hiring Laura has given me the ability to outsource most of our marketing, so I’m able to focus on different aspects of the business. She has effectively updated our email blast template, making it look more modern and on brand.

My favorite projects are the banner ads we do during the holidays. For a Christmas campaign, for example, she added a spinning record on it, which got the most hits we’ve ever had. She always comes up with fun visuals.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Laura is very hands-on and open communicator. She makes it easy to translate what I’m requesting into to a designer's lingo.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I’m most impressed with her work ethic, communication, and expectation management. She comes highly recommend.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No. Laura is a patient teacher, helping me learn more about design so that I can also assist on smaller projects for in-shop.

My goal was to create a strong visual brand for the client through a logo.

I met Laura (Graphic Designer & Art Director, Laura Duffy Design) at a networking event.

Laura was involved in the branding discussions with the clients. She came up with different designs and worked through several versions to develop logos that the clients were happy with. Our clients later used the logos for their websites.

I acted as the brand consultant while Laura was the designer.
