Taking over for another vendor’s code, Krishna Innovative Software Pvt. Ltd. spearheaded game development, making significant progress toward launch. Their flexible communication and workstyle allow them to work independently. They communicate clearly and respond to questions quickly.

The client submitted this review online.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the managing director of Death or Victory!, an internet game.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Krishna Innovative Software Pvt. Ltd.?

I needed someone to take over code from a different vendor and finish developing my game.

What were your goals for this project?

I wanted to develop the project to the point where I could launch the game as a fully-fledged business.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Many vendors I talked to failed to understand the project aims or existing code I had. I spent several years trying to find the right development agency and eventually connected with Rocky (Managing Director, Krishna Innovative Software Pvt. Ltd.) on an IT website. He replied enthusiastically and seemed intelligent, so I chose him. It was certainly the right decision.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They’ve done web design, animation, and pixel collision detection and worked with databases.

What was the team composition?

I’ve only interacted with Rocky.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

I haven’t launched the game yet, so there aren’t any results at this time.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We communicate through Skype and test code on TeamViewer. Our communication varies in frequency, as we sometimes work together for hours and other times won't speak for several weeks. This hasn’t hampered our progress whatsoever, though. I find Rocky to be industrious, intelligent, and friendly. He works around my unpredictable schedule and keeps us moving forward.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

As a businessman with little coding knowledge, Rocky has been the ideal developer. He never complains when I ask him questions and refuses to give up on a problem until it’s solved. Taking over someone else’s code must have been extremely difficult, but he’s handled it well.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, I don't think so.

The new CRM has proven integral to managing business operations. Contact engagement and product tracking have improved, and the system functions reliably. Despite the time differences, Krishna Innovative Software managed the project well, maintaining clear communication and delivering on schedule.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of operations at Auto Avenues, a car buying service for credit union members. In addition to providing customer care, we also conduct marketing. My work spans software development and operations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Krishna Innovative Software?

Initially, we approached a local company to help us build an internal software as a service (SaaS) CRM that allowed us to coordinate business between credit unions. However, the engagement didn't meet our expectations, and subsequent work with a second engineering team became too expensive. As a result, we decided to outsource the development to an overseas partner.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We completed four main projects together: a web portal called H360, an in-house CRM called AutoFlow, a database management system (DMS) that syncs with the CRM, and an accompanying iOS/Android app.

The projects were key to facilitating our client engagement. Credit unions could submit customer referrals through the web portal, which allowed us to easily report to them. The CRM also enabled us to oversee our whole business process, from tracking vehicles and assigning them to contacts to managing phone calls, texts, and emails.

Krishna Innovative Software's team designed the website using ASP.NET and used C# and Microsoft SQM Server to develop the DMS.

What is the team composition?

The team fluctuated, but, during active development, we had a project manager, four or five developers, and two QA personnel.

How did you come to work with Krishna Innovative Software?

I was looking for resources on Fiverr to augment my team and engaged with a company called Soft Prodigy. They originally brought on Krishna Innovative Software to the project, who then staffed most of the project.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost varied based on how much work we had. For example, at the beginning of the project, we were still figuring out design pages. But as work continued and grew, so did the development team. On average, we spent between $10,000–$15,000 a month, which totals close to $400,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project went from February 2015–May 2018. Currently, we've retained one developer to help us with maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

With the new CRM, we saw significant improvements in initial contacts and follow-ups. It also allowed us to cleanly, and automatically, track vehicles being brought on and off-site. Since we had done that all manually before, we don't have metrics for comparison. We've since transitioned to running our business exclusively using the current DMS. I appreciate its exceptional uptime and consistent delivery.

How did Krishna Innovative Software perform from a project management standpoint?

We had three different project managers, the initial two provided by Soft Prodigy. While the first manager was excellent, the second was not. I approached Krishna Innovative Software to fill the position, and they assigned a fabulous manager who held everyone accountable and handled the project well. When they introduced new members into the team, they quickly brought them up to speed so that the project didn’t suffer in any way. In terms of communication, we typically spoke through Skype and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication was good, especially for an offshore team, and they were very technically knowledgeable. In spite of a 12-hour time difference, they were always willing to Skype or have a phone call with us. The biggest hurdle was actually getting stateside developers to work with an adjusted schedule.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s difficult for me to differentiate between Soft Prodigy and Krishna Innovative Software, but there was a lot of turnover in QA roles. At times, the QA resources were fantastic, and at other times there were obvious mistakes. However, this is a struggle that I’ve faced with a lot of development agencies. I think everyone can work on improving their final product; it’s never perfect.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The engineering team is excellent, but you need to make sure that they have a team lead holding everyone accountable to the schedule. That will keep anyone involved from making promises on deadlines and not following through.

The team showed impressive dedication to accomplishing all project tasks, no matter how challenging. They regularly asked questions to ensure they understood requirements, worked efficiently, and returned technically solid products. Beta tester feedback has been very positive despite some bugs.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

I’m the CEO of iCE Angel-ID Limited, which is an online software company. We provide personal medical alert services to users.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Krishna Innovative Software?

Our previous outsourced software team was struggling to complete our development, so we hired someone else to work on it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They took over developing our app, which sends out emergency alert notifications to the user’s family. We have a web version, as well as mobile apps. Since it’s meant for emergencies, the app uses location services and sends out push notifications. It also offers multilingual translation capabilities and is linked to a database for storing user health data.

When Krishna Innovative Software came onto the project, it was pretty well advanced — about 80 percent of the features had been built already. They’re working in Angular JS for the frontend development, and then we’ve got native Android and iOS apps.

The Android app was finished first. On the iOS side, they developed an Apple Watch app from scratch. It’s currently being tested for bugs. Additionally, they made a number of frontend updates to the previous native iOS app we had, upgraded the code from Swift 2 to Swift 4, and added some new features that we needed.

They’re also working with our CTO to build a parallel platform for the Chinese market since they don’t use a lot of the APIs that are available internationally. The app looks similar to the user, but it’s very different work on the backend.

What is the team composition?

There are three developers: one each for frontend, iOS, and Android. We’ve also hired a graphic designer for a one-off project.

How did you come to work with Krishna Innovative Software?

We found them by making cold calls to companies we’d researched online. When we met, we really liked their developers. They seemed technically competent and answered all our questions, so we decided to hire them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in July 2016 and we’re still working together.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve already done a beta launch and are resolving some bugs on the platform. We’re also working on upgrades to some of the features in preparation for our international hard launch.

Our user feedback’s been very positive so far. We’ve got about 5,000 beta users on both our international and China platforms.

How did Krishna Innovative Software perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve been really happy with their communication. We keep in touch via Slack and Skype and they ask a lot of questions before they proceed. We also use Pivotal Tracker for project management. I’ve found that their working pace is pretty good and their designs have also been solid from a technical standpoint.

I haven’t spoken with our project manager too often since we started, but she’s done well at matching us with developers. She puts a lot of thought into our requirements.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They persevere and they complete everything they need to accomplish. I’ve worked with other service providers who make excuses or ask for more money when they run into trouble. With Krishna, they take responsibility for whatever’s been defined in the scope of the project and they’ll get the work done even if some parts are difficult.

Are there any areas they could improve?

This may simply be a language issue, so I don’t want to be too critical, but I do sometimes find myself having to explain instructions more than once, even for relatively simple things.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear in your specification and your requirements. I’ve also noticed with Krishna, different from European developers, that they work better with direct instruction than with a collaborative approach.
