Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a vice president at an online auction platform for heavy equipment. I oversee inspection processes.
What challenge were you trying to address with Krasamo Inc.?
We had an existing mobile app that our inspectors use internally, but it was outdated and inefficient. We hired the Krasamo team to build a new iOS app that integrates several of our internal platforms while creating additional efficiency gains in the field.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The Krasamo team managed all aspects of development in building the new app. The old version was very difficult to update due to the way the code had been written, so we prioritized a more open build with the new version. It also allows us to repurpose reports we’ve done already and push inspection data wherever it needs to go, all through the app’s interface. Building the app on iOS also allows our inspectors to use a phone, rather than an unwieldy tablet, during inspections that often require them to climb around.
What is the team composition?
We worked primarily with a project manager, who was quick to learn about the inspection process and how the app would be used in the field.
How did you come to work with Krasamo Inc.?
We were considering several local companies, but Krasamo had all the skill sets we were looking for while maintaining the smaller “boutique” feel. When we met with their team, they asked questions that challenged our ideas in a productive way, which wasn’t something the other firms did. We really appreciated their availability in working through new ideas and their willingness to learn the specifics of our field.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested about $100,000 on the project.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in May 2016, and the app was completed in June 2017.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve conducted over 100,000 inspections since deploying the app across the company globally. We now have about 50% of our workforce using iPhones, which makes inspections easier and safer. It’s been a very successful build.
How did Krasamo Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?
Our project manager was always available; they communicated clearly and often without being overbearing. We were very pleased with everyone on the team. They made their commitment to the success of the project clear from very early on in the process.
We changed the scope multiple times throughout the development process and really appreciated the team’s flexibility in meeting our requirements. They were patient when we considered new features and functionalities as the project unfolded. Any delays during the process were due to our own inquiries on possible improvements and additional tools. We primarily communicated during weekly calls and regular office visits.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were determined to meet our needs while simultaneously improving upon the ideas that we presented. They quickly understood our business and immediately began suggesting new features and strategies. Krasamo was a true business partner in driving our application forward.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Early on, the smaller feel that they offer was very attractive to us, but it came along with a more casual approach to project management initially. However, they’ve since adopted more formal tools to track projects in our engagements with them.
Any advice for potential customers?
Meet with their key business members early on in the project, and make sure to thoroughly explain your overarching goals. They were very open with us and took a hands-on approach to learning about our business operations.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the IT manager of a home security hardware distributor and manufacturer. We make padlocks, door locks, towing accessories, and motion sensor lights and timers. I’m also involved in product development.
What challenge were you trying to address with Krasamo Inc.?
We were developing a consumer IoT product and needed a partner to develop the app and firmware.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Krasamo Inc. is developing a Wi-Fi-based smart deadbolt along with an iOS and Android app. The lock contains an STM32 chip, and the apps are both native. People can use their smart phones to lock and unlock the door.
What is the team composition?
We had a project manager, firmware developer, app developer, graphics UI/UX designer, and a UI/UX developer.
How did you come to work with Krasamo Inc.?
We researched app developers who had experience with IoT products and found five potential candidates. We narrowed it down to three, interviewed them, and found Krasamo to be the best fit.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent about $300,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We partnered in March 2016, and the bulk of the work finished up last month. Krasamo is now providing minor updates and support.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
It’s too early to have metrics, but the code is good and doesn’t have any major bugs.
How did Krasamo Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management is one of their weaker skills. They sometimes took on too much work, which delayed our schedule. They gave us access to their Redmine, so we could track bugs and features. We also communicated via email and phone.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They have exceptional technical abilities and problem-solving skills. The character of everyone who works there is also top-notch.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could do better at project management and meeting deadlines.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Krasamo is best to work with if you have your own project management staff. Use Krasamo for their technical ability because it will ensure better success.
Since the app’s launch, it’s been used for over 100,000 equipment inspections. Open communication and flexibility were key in efficiently addressing multiple adjustments to the scope. The Krasamo team quickly understood business processes and made substantive suggestions on the app’s functionality.
